I'm not busting your azz, I'm trying to figure out what you think is so "illogical". Because trees retaining "green" leaves is *normal* after a fire, depending, of course, on many factors.
We had a cabin burn that our boys had built back inside the edge of our woods. Idiot teens built a fire in a woodstove that (idiot, but he figured that out, so I never mentioned it again!) husband gave them permission to install..and then came down to the farmstead to do their chores...leaving the draft wide open. Thank GOD (and I mean that sincerely!) all the teens were down at the barns when it went up in flames!
It was early September (they were celebrating an early football season win with an overnight cabin party), and all the trees were still lush and green.
When it was finally put out, there was little left of the cabin but a couple of beams in a pile of ashes...but the trees around it looked fine...a bit "singed around the edges", with leaves closest to the fire turning brownish, but most stayed green, especially from even 20 feet away. You could see damage if you picked a leaf and checked the edges.
The next Spring... 80% that were within 50 feet of the cabin didn't leaf out, and the ones that did produced malformed, scanty leaves and died over the following winter.
But there was almost ZERO indication (no charring of the trunks, or even anything that would indicate the tree had "cooked")
We ended up losing probably close to 6 or 7 thousand bucks in top quality maple and black cherry trees. But it wasn't at all obvious for over 6 months, and it took 18 months for the full extent of the damage together known.
Granted, I got fantastic blackberry crops off the site for over 5 years, the boys and their friends rebuilt a 2 story cabin, and we had 30 foot tall maple, cherry and oak saplings reaching for the sky when we sold it. Nature wins.

Hochul is currently staying mum on this idea, but you know she'll wholeheartedly endorse it if she wins reelection. This state is doomed!

New York City, already reeling from crime under years of radical leftist rule, now faces a proposal that sounds ripped straight from a communist energy-rationing handbook: mandatory blackouts every night.
Manhattan Assemblywoman Deborah Glick is sponsoring the “Dark Skies Protection Act,” which would require businesses and residents to turn off non-essential lighting between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Critics are blasting it as a criminal’s dream come true in a city that already struggles with safety after dark.

The bill itself spells out its goals in the legislation: “preserve and enhance the state’s dark sky while promoting safety for people, birds and other wildlife, conserving energy and reducing our carbon footprint, and preserving the aesthetic qualities of the night sky.”
It adds: “Our ancestors were able to experience a night sky full of stars, but now 80% of Americans can no longer see the Milky Way and experience its profound beauty.”
The full pitch on light pollution reads: “Light pollution has many negative impacts, including the disruption of the natural patterns of wildlife, wasted energy and increased output of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases, interruption of human sleep and other adverse health impacts, and the loss of the aesthetic qualities and cultural significance of the night sky.”
On birds, it states: “70% of bird species migrate each year. And of those birds, 80% migrate at night, using the night sky to help them navigate to and from their breeding grounds. However, as they pass over big cities on their way, they can become disoriented by bright artificial lights, often causing them to collide with buildings or windows.”

That’s all well and good, but there is an ongoing rampant crime epidemic in New York City. Is the safety of birds more important in than the safety of people?
Lights used for travel would be exempt, but the bill is already drawing fire.
One observer on X put it bluntly: “Criminal gangs approve this message.”
Another wrote sarcastically: “Good then criminals can maraud the populace under cover of darkness as intended!”
“What could go wrong?” a third asked.
A fourth added: “I’m all for seeing the stars but New York is not exactly a safe place.”
NYS Conservative Party chairman Gerard Kassar summed it up: “I guess Glick wants to push one last ridiculous idea before she retires.”
The idiotic cherry on top of this maniac idea comes with Times Square getting spared while the rest of the city is plunged into darkness.
This isn’t environmentalism. It’s control dressed up as virtue. In a city where crime already spikes at night and leftist policies have made streets less secure, mandating a nightly blackout is an open invitation for chaos.
This is the exact kind of thing you’d expect to see in a communist hellhole, the inevitable result of that ideology—failing grids, forced darkness, and everyday people paying the price while the system pretends it’s for the greater good.
The same pattern played out in Cuba, where communist mismanagement triggered repeated total grid collapses, leaving millions without power for days and exposing the rot at the core of that system.
New Yorkers wouldn’t be getting safer skies or saved birds—they’d be experiencing rationed freedom while the real problems go unaddressed.
This bill may not pass, but the mindset behind it reveals everything about who’s steering the ship in blue-city America.

At least 1,000 people filled Lehman College’s sprawling performing arts center, where Sanders (I-Vt.) spent nearly an hour pushing his own proposal targeting the wealthy.
“A few years ago, it was estimated that Elon Musk, the wealthiest man alive, paid an effective tax rate of less than 3.3%, while the average truck driver in America paid an effective tax rate of 8.4%,” Bernie told the crowd, which answered with agreeing boos and chants of “Shame! Shame!”
“That is what the mayor of New York City is fighting for,” said Sanders, 84.
“All over this country, in New York state, and here in New York City, the American people are demanding a tax system which is progressive, which is fair, and demands those people who have the much, who have the most, start paying their fair share.”
Sanders has been pushing for an extra 5% tax nationwide on anybody worth $1 billion or more — a move resembling the 2% proposed extra tax on New Yorkers earning $1 million or more that Mamdani has been pressuring Hochul to approve since taking office in January.
Hochul — the only real stumbling block to pass the Mamdani tax — has come right out and said she would not support such legislation, leading to a diplomatic dance between the state’s two most powerful leaders as June budget deadlines and November elections loom.
That dance was put on full display Sunday when Mamdani declined to join his socialist banner-waver Sanders onstage and instead left the lieutenants to make his pitch for him.
“I would ask Gov. Hochul listen to where the people are at,” Sanders said. “The people of this city, the people of this state, the people of this country, do not want to see our kids go hungry. Do not want to see people sleep out on the street lack health care.
“They want the very rich to start paying their fair share of taxes,” he said. “I would hope that the governor joins the vast majority of the people who want to see that happen.”
The past two months have seen periods of tension and detente between Mamdani and the gov.
Hochul in February funneled more than a billion dollars to New York City to help offset a its budget deficit, while Mamdani just days later threatened to hike Big Apple property taxes by nearly 10% if Hochul wouldn’t sign his tax on the wealthy to gain even more revenue.
But Mamdani also endorsed Hochul’s bid for re-election in the fall — and some have speculated she is simply waiting to win her seat back before signing the mayor’s controversial tax into law, as many state lawmakers have voiced support for the measure.
Liberals who turned out to cheer on Sanders on Sunday did their part pushing Mamdani’s agenda on Hochul in his stead.
“I want to say Gov. Hochul — you are the governor because of these people,” 52-year-old Bronx resident Rowshon Sharker told The Post.
“These people voted for you.
“Mamdani trying to do his job, but we are the part of the people,” she said. “We are here to say the words. We elected Mamdani for our basic needs, right, universal child care, housing and every point.”
Leaders from Mamdani’s Democratic Socialists of America also took up the mayor’s cause to take Hochul to task.
“She is a public servant, and she owes us the decency of listening to us,” said city DSA co-Chair Grace Mausser.

Hochul — the only real stumbling block to pass the Mamdani tax — has come right out and said she would not support such legislation, leading to a diplomatic dance between the state’s two most powerful leaders as June budget deadlines and November elections loom.
That dance was put on full display Sunday when Mamdani declined to join his socialist banner-waver Sanders onstage and instead left the lieutenants to make his pitch for him.
“I would ask Gov. Hochul listen to where the people are at,” Sanders said. “The people of this city, the people of this state, the people of this country, do not want to see our kids go hungry. Do not want to see people sleep out on the street lack health care.
“They want the very rich to start paying their fair share of taxes,” he said. “I would hope that the governor joins the vast majority of the people who want to see that happen.”
The past two months have seen periods of tension and detente between Mamdani and the gov.
Hochul in February funneled more than a billion dollars to New York City to help offset a its budget deficit, while Mamdani just days later threatened to hike Big Apple property taxes by nearly 10% if Hochul wouldn’t sign his tax on the wealthy to gain even more revenue.
But Mamdani also endorsed Hochul’s bid for re-election in the fall — and some have speculated she is simply waiting to win her seat back before signing the mayor’s controversial tax into law, as many state lawmakers have voiced support for the measure.
Liberals who turned out to cheer on Sanders on Sunday did their part pushing Mamdani’s agenda on Hochul in his stead.
“I want to say Gov. Hochul — you are the governor because of these people,” 52-year-old Bronx resident Rowshon Sharker told The Post.
“These people voted for you.
“Mamdani trying to do his job, but we are the part of the people,” she said. “We are here to say the words. We elected Mamdani for our basic needs, right, universal child care, housing and every point.”
Leaders from Mamdani’s Democratic Socialists of America also took up the mayor’s cause to take Hochul to task.
“She is a public servant, and she owes us the decency of listening to us,” said city DSA co-Chair Grace Mausser.
“The people of New York have put her there, and the people of New York want to tax and rich. So if she wants to stay in office, she should do it. too.”
