#Louisville | #Kentucky

Currently, a large Sysco semi-truck dangles off the Clark Memorial Bridge between southern Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky, following dramatic rescue efforts made on Friday afternoon. First responders were observed rappelling down to the semi's cab, where a trapped driver awaited rescue. The driver was later seen in the arms of a rescuer, being pulled to safety. Both sides of the bridge are closed, and officials haven't specified how long the downtown Louisville bridge will remain shutdown.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville emergency crews made a daring rescue of a semi driver after her truck went over the edge of Clark Memorial Bridge on Friday, leaving the semi dangling high above the Ohio River.
According to WDRB, Louisville Metro Police confirmed a collision between a semi, a pickup and two passenger vehicles caused the semi-truck to crash through the barrier and nearly fall off the bridge.
WDRB captured dramatic footage that showed the truck cabin hanging out over the edge as rescue crews rappelled down to rescue the driver, the pair dangling high above the river.

The woman stuck in the driver’s cab was “extremely lucky” the truck didn’t plummet into the river, said Louisville Fire Chief Brian O’Neill.

The woman’s rescuer, Bryce Carden, said the driver was “super calm” despite her precarious position.
“She was just praying. She was praying a lot. And I prayed with her. So it was good,” Carden told WDRB.

Two others involved in the crash on the bridge were sent to the hospital with injuries authorities called “serious” and “life threatening.”
The bridge remains closed following the rescue and likely won’t open before Saturday morning.

We were on that bridge once years ago.
Got stuck up there in a traffic jam, or something weird happened. But it was not pleasant I DO remember that!

I’m glad those people were rescued my LORD how scary!

I was nearby today. I had a Dr. appointment or I could have driven to the site. That bridge is one of only two toll free ways to cross the state line. I think traffic was awful this evening.

I work in Ky and live in Ind. we work 4 ten hour days so I was off today. That Fireman deserves an old beer after that rescue! Both he and the driver will have a story to tell.

I would have liked to drive there and watch how the truck was recovered. It will take some heavy machinery and lots of skill to do that job. I haven’t heard any news about others in the accident.
