Donald Trump has called for November's presidential election to be postponed, saying increased postal voting could lead to fraud and inaccurate results.
He suggested a delay until people can "properly, securely and safely" vote.
There is little evidence to support Mr Trump's claims but he has long railed against mail-in voting which he has said would be susceptible to fraud.
US states want to make postal voting easier due to public health concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
In a series of tweets, Mr Trump said "universal mail-in voting" would make November's vote the "most inaccurate and fraudulent election in history" and a "great embarrassment to the USA".

He suggested - without providing evidence - that mail-in voting, as it is known in the US, would be susceptible to foreign interference.
"The Dems talk of foreign influence in voting, but they know that Mail-In Voting is an easy way for foreign countries to enter the race," he said.
Mr Trump also said postal voting was "already proving to be a catastrophic disaster" in areas where it was being tried out.
Earlier this month, six US states were planning to hold "all-mail" ballot elections this November: California, Utah, Hawaii, Colorado, Oregon and Washington.
These states will automatically send postal ballots to all registered voters, which then have to be sent back or dropped off on election day - although some in-person voting is still available in certain limited circumstances.
About half of US states allow any registered voter to vote by post on request.
Critics of postal voting argue that people could vote more than once via absentee ballots and in person. Mr Trump has in the past said there was a risk of "thousands and thousands of people sitting in somebody's living room, signing ballots all over the place".
However, there is no evidence of widespread fraud, according to numerous nationwide and state-level studies over the years.

Trump Sparks Firestorm With Suggestion To Delay Elections 'Until Vote Can Be Safe'

by Tyler Durden
Thu, 07/30/2020 - 09:00

President Trump fired off a Thursday tweet that's about to dominate the weekend news cycle - suggesting that the 2020 election could be postponed over concerns that mail-in ballots will lead to "the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history," adding "It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???"

With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 30, 2020
Trump's tweet ignited a firestorm from the left:

Never in American history—not even during the Civil War and World War II--has there been a successful move to “Delay the Election” for President.

Both CNN's Manu Raju and Business Insider went with the very editorialized "baseless" to describe voter fraud, despite a plethora of evidence it's indeed based (see below).

And of course, this is also a giant distraction:

This plays into an April warning by former VP Joe Biden, who said "Mark my words I think he is gonna try to kick back the election somehow, come up with some rationale why it can’t be held."

"We have to figure out how we are going to conduct a full and fair and safe election in November and no one should have to risk their lives to cast a ballot," Biden added.

The Trump campaign's 'War Room' account replied to the president's tweet with a report that "68% of Voters Are Concerned About The Security of Mail-In Ballots."

A poll in late June by The Hill - HarrisX found that 68% of registered voters were either 'somewhat or very concerned about the possibility of tampering with mail-in ballots.'

Republicans are much more likely to be worried about it, which is likely a reflection of President Trump's rhetoric on the issue. Trump has repeatedly warned, without providing evidence, that mail-in balloting is subject to fraud.
Eighty percent of Republicans in the survey said they were somewhat or very concerned with tampering with mail-in ballots, compared to 68 percent of independents and 56 percent of Democratic voters.
Fifty-eight percent said they were worried about the privacy of their vote if they voted by mail, including 70 percent of Republicans, 53 percent of independents and 51 percent of Democrats.
But voters overall were more concerned about being exposed to the coronavirus when voting in person. -The Hill
In May, Trump tweeted that mail-in ballots would lead to the "greatest Rigged Election in history."

As Michael Graham of InsideSources wrote in late May:

Concerns about mail-in voting and fraud aren’t new.

A bipartisan Commission on Federal Election Reform, co-chaired by former President Jimmy Carter and former Secretary of State James Baker declared, “Absentee ballots remain the largest source of potential voter fraud.”

In the 2018 midterms, a congressional election in North Carolina was overturned and had to be re-held because an unscrupulous Republican operative was using mail-in ballots to scam the system.

And the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) just released data that more than 28 million ballots by mail went unaccounted for from 2012 to 2018, with more than one million going to the incorrect address in 2018 alone.

“Absentee ballot fraud is the most common, the most expensive to investigate, and it can never be reversed after an election,” said the organization’s president J. Christian Adams.
“The status quo was already bad for mail balloting. The proposed emergency fix is worse.”
More recently, “in a Supreme Court contest in Wisconsin in April, about 1,600 ballots were discovered the morning after Election Day in a mail processing facility in Chicago — 1,600 voters whose ballots did not count,” The Hill reports. “Hundreds more who applied for absentee ballots did not receive them in time, according to a report by the state Board of Elections.”

And literally the same day President Trump tweeted that mail-in ballots “would be forged,” the Department of Justice announced a mail carrier in West Virginia was being charged with attempted election fraud by committing forgery on mail-in ballots.

Of course it should be noted that the executive branch doesn't have the authority to change the date of presidential elections - rather, it would be in hands of Congress to decide such a drastic measure.

If someone can just combine the thread's I'm happy, I was surprised I was first actually as this is really breaking news.

In my minds eye I am picturing the responses on this board if President Obama had made such a suggestion.
Trump was wrong to make such a statement. All it can do is increase divisiveness and create huge clouds of smoke.
This is kind of my first reaction, that to say this now is a huge gamble; unless things are so bad people really are stepping over bodies in the streets I really think American Ingenuity can figure out a way to hold an election on the standard date.

It may be legal, as long as there is a President by inauguration day but I am not a constitutional scholar, though like most people here at least I have read the document (but don't have it memorized).

He is just getting all the Dems on record saying this is a horrible idea and un american he would be if they did it and on and on.... so that when they try to delay for some reason he has them.... but this will stir the shit out of the Dem voters.

Same tactic as he used when he said he did not know if he would accept the vote results on election night during the debate with HRC

In all the past posts here, and all the PAW fiction stories it was always Hillary or some liberal President who tried to do something like this.
If they try to delay the election, it is time to vote with your rifle.

The unmarked SUVs, the unidentified homeland security JBTs, it was always a stinking traitorous liberal in charge.
Sad to see so many who liked to quote the constitution be ready to burn it because of the cult of personality. I will keep my oath. Will you?

Oh ya, some leftie friends of facyspace are tweaking.

I don't know where to find the actual details on how an election takes place, anyone have a good source?
I know it's essentially done by the states with just a set of rules on how and when. But I would love to shit in someone's Cheerios with the facts.

Same old, same old. It seems to me that all during the 2016 election run, he said over and over and over that the election was rigged.

Almost all states have allowed absentee voting for decades.
Hell, the President and his family vote by mail.
I guess it's ok for him but nobody else :shk:

Me, I'll stick with the constitution.

He's never made it about absentee voting.

It's about the states that want to mass mail ballots to everyone on the voter rolls (that aren't cleaned up BTW) without being requested by the voters.

I think he floated this just to get the exploding head effect. The chances of this actually happening are slim to none. Trump himself will likely back off of this in a day or two. There's no way it will be approved.

We all know, though, that if the Dems were in power with a pandemic crisis, they'd say the same thing, and not be trolling. They've delayed everything else they could so far...

Yes, Trump is the best at trolling. He does it and everyone looks over here but there's something else going on over there that's the real issue. Anyway, he's good at making heads explode lol

You are presumably aware that a faithful reading of the Constitution would A) shut down 90% of the nonDoD activities of the Fed Gov, B) would forbid votes to most people who wouldn't have had it in 1800 (if not deport many of those -- do read the Preamble with a dictionary handy), and C) would IMPRISON the vast majority of Democrats in national office? Just curious.

I agree, there is no way this will actually happen. If it would have been the Dems who proposed it, I would have expected it.
It's just ironic as shit that the first President to propose this ripping up of the constitution was Trump.
Mister "confiscate the guns now, due process later".
Ask yourself, if the economy hadn't crashed, and the polls were more in his favor, would he have even mentioned something like this?

People have to make up their minds. Is it a person you support, or is it the constitution of the United States?

Melodi is correct.
If Obama would have suggested this shit, the same people who are defending the President now, would have been out in the street with rifles.
The commies are already out with their rifles. They have been openly shooting those that oppose them for some time now. Trump is not going to postpone the election but something else may happen that is far bigger. It is the way he plays the game. Maybe it just gives the useless media something to cover while Maxwell and Strozk spill their guts for some kind of deal. A lot at play from many fronts with this active communist takeover of the United States.

Please take my advice and put it in your will that no matter how long you have been dead you will never vote for a democrat.

The only item of truth in your meandering post was that the federal government has no business doing most of what it does.
The rest is bovine excretment .
You want to ignore the Constitution and will damn sure find a way to justify it in your mind.
The constitution is more important than any man, but since you never took an oath to defend it, disregarding it when it suits you is pretty much what I expected of you.

I have never voted for a democrat in my 69 years and never will.
But now I'm even having doubts about voting for a Republican.
Maybe the time for voting is over, and the time for something else has arrived at last.

This from a man who got paid for defending the USC, but never got shot at and had to put up or shut up, e.g, had to follow through on his oath to actually do the key part (e.g., beyond labor and location, which I have decades of doing) of what he got paid to do. (Civilians do labor essential to the mil, too; I have been important to production of countless gallons of tank, truck, helicopter, fixed-wing, lubricants, antifreeze, deicers, and ship fuel used by the U.S. military from 1984 to this year.)

Have you read the Preamble to the Constitution yet? Hint: "posterity" is a key word.

People are ALSO voting for the person. Since it's going to be Biden or Trump at inauguration day, which of those men will you be voting for? Because while one of them might not be adhering to the leter of the document, you can bet your house and kids that the other one will turn this country Communist PDQ.

So which will it be?
