Does anyone have a recipe for Jewelweed salve for poison ivy? I would very much appreciate one - just found a large patch down at the end of the road :)

Many Thanks!

I dried my jewel weed. I just lay it out on brown paper in the office. Keep out of direct sunlight. I pack a pint jar with the dried leaves. I mixed in some dried plantain leaves too. Then I melt coconut oil and cover the leaves. I set it in a sunny window for at least 3 weeks. You can heat it in a double boiler but keep the temperature low. You don’t want to cook it. Your oil should have some green color when finished. It worked well for the 4 people that have used it for poison ivy. We were very pleased.

Thank you, Digger! Now I need to run down to the end of our road and get to picking Jewelweed!

I'm going to save some seed and find a damp, shady place here in the yard to plant some - the guy who took over farming that side of the road is a bit of a jerk - he even tried to keep people from going to the little cemetery in the wooded draw near where the jewelweed is. Luckily, the owner of the land is nicer...

I used the jewel weed flower heads and infused them in extra virgin olive oil for over a month. I strained it and mixed that with an infused oil of greater plantain (half & half) and made a salve with beeswax in a double boiler. Added one gel capsule of vitamin E to preserve it by puncturing the capsule. It seemed to work good when I used it last year but this year I used the same salve again and it worked far greater then before. I believe some of these herbal products work quite a bit better after they have aged a bit. I have had that happen in the past with homemade facial scrubs and creams.
