People who think about such stuff are of the opinion that it took nearly 400 years for the human mind to fully utilize that great tech leap: printing. Already after 200 years it had a tremendous impact on civil society: the Protestant Reformation and the subsequent religious wars. Without printing it is quite likely Martin Luther would have had little effect.
It took near 400 years for it to impact into the economic Industrial Revolution. And we have been living with that until recently.
When the Net first surfaced, I told my kids it might have a fatal flaw for society. It will allow the crazies to find and reinforce each other. And I think we are seeing that as society is slowly being rent apart by numerous factions that did not particularly exist in power until recently. Consequently the Weak have been strengthened while the Strong have been weakened into impotence.
The short term result IMO will be anarchy. I am not sure there will be a long term result. We don't have 400 years to adjust to the new tech.
We are doomed.
