…… Converting full-size, kitchen gas stove/oven to propane

This is part of an outdoor, covered kitchen project. I have acquired a used natural gas oven/stove. It's in great shape. Has anyone converted a regular kitchen stove/oven to propane? Were you happy with the result?
  1. Other than fittings and a regulator, what would be involved to convert this puppy to a 20lb tank hookup?
  2. What are the chances I'd have enough flow and pressure to use 3 burners simultaneously (for summer canning)?

1 - yeah, kits out there for that.

2 - try it. 20lbrs fire up some pretty big grills out there. If they're OK for a 60 - 75K BTU turkey frier should be ok for a stove.

On newer stoves as OldAndCrazy says there are kits that change a spring in the regulator on the stove. On the older stoves, with no regulator, each burner is individually adjusted. First the max and min flame and then the air mixture. And then the pilot lights. And you should be able to run 3 burners in the summer.

If you are using for pressure canning, start with a fresh full tank every time. Not a fun lesson to learn on a sunday afternoon

i would get a gas appliance repair person to come and change the orifices and adjust it.

if you tell him the model number he can bring the parts with him.

Even better get an RV valve and have 2 tanks hooked up. When one runs out switch to the other and be back in service in less than a minute. I've done the regulator mods on a NG dryer to convert to LP. Really easy. The better appliance parts websites even have videos on how to do the job.

Most new stoves in the last 10-20 years have a conversion orifice kit in them, somewhere.

It may have gotten lost in time.

Typically, the top burners get a new orifice and the oven burners have adjustable ones, with an adjustment to the air shutter.

Regulator adjustments are typically just that, not a change-out.
