NEW: 100s of US-led forces are being moved out of a base in Baghdad’s Green Zone to elsewhere in Iraq, such as Taji base, & to Kuwait (but still in theatre of ops), a coalition source says, explaining letter below

. It’s to “thin out” troops in Baghdad. “We’re not leaving Iraq”

Agreed. I think there's still a tale to be told, and we have yet to have heard it.

Agree.

The authenticity of the letter, which was addressed to the Iraqi defence ministry's Combined Joint Operations Baghdad, was confirmed to Reuters independently by an Iraqi military source.

I have no idea what the deal is.

Especially now, take everything with a grain of salt.

I'm guessing that one agency did not coordinate their statement with other agencies.

Won't be the last time. Especially with the Pants Load MSM and the Deep State doing everything they can to stir the pot.

I beg to differ with Deborah Haynes' position. The letter says we are leaving Iraq, not just Baghdad (see text above). How is it respecting their sovereignty if we just put the troops somewhere else in country? I don't know who source is but they must not be totally up to date with the change in operations. imho.

ETA: I was posting the above when the update from Tara Copp came in about Esper denying it. Seems the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing and that does not instill confidence right now. :(

I think the left and right hands know what's going on, and we're just being phucked with. Maybe by a third hand.

It may just be something to create confusion amongst the enemy.

Iraq, Iran, Russia, China...they are all trying to figure out the next step.

Hard to make good decisions when the complexion of the situation is constantly changing.

I can see Trump "leaking" this, just to jack with them.
Somebody may have just cranked on the phog machine...

#BREAKING @EsperDoD can't confirm whether the letter to Iraqi DM from Gen Seely is real but says there has be no decision for US forces to leave #Iraq . To #Iran, "the ball is in your court" to deescalate and the US is open to sitting down.

US Defense Secretary: There has been no decision to leave Iraq
US Defense Secretary Mark Esper denies reports that the US-led international coalition fighting ISIS has decided to withdraw from Iraq.
Elad Benari, 06/01/20 23:12

US Defense Secretary Mark Esper responded on Monday to reports that the US-led coalition to combat the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization has decided to withdraw from Iraq.

"There has been no decision to leave Iraq. Period," he said.

Earlier it was reported that the commander of Task Force Iraq had written a letter to the Iraqis informing them of the decision to withdraw.

The US decision, according to the reports, was made following the nonbinding decision of the Iraqi parliament from Sunday to expel all US troops from the country.

On Sunday night, President Donald Trump was asked about the possibility that Iraq would force US troops out of the country, and threatened sanctions against Baghdad, adding that if troops did leave, Baghdad would have to pay Washington for the cost of the air base there.

“We have a very extraordinarily expensive air base that’s there. It cost billions of dollars to build, long before my time. We’re not leaving unless they pay us back for it,” he stressed.

Trump said that if Iraq asked US forces to leave and it was not done on a friendly basis, “we will charge them sanctions like they’ve never seen before ever. It’ll make Iranian sanctions look somewhat tame.”

I have first hand info that this withdrawal is real and that it's been underway. Don't want to harm Operational Security (although at this point it has certainly been tweeted and reported enough).

My Marine friend at the embassy in the Green Zone was in the first cluster out. This is real, folks (at least the redeployment part).

ETA after reading last few posts because I can't keep up;)

Esper's deputy resigned today. I wonder if it was in connection with this. Letter leaked on purpose or by mistake? Or is this the excuse being used to cover for a complete cluserf*&k at DOD. ? It was a good letter to explain the helicopter traffic. But if we're not withdrawing our troops, could cause all sorts of problems down the road, so of course they had to deny. Someone's head is going to roll, maybe it was the deputy. Either way, this is really bad form when our military is needed to be at the top of their game. :shk:

#UPDATE: US defense official tells CBS News the next 24 to 36 hours could reveal whether Iran intends to make good on its threats to retaliate. Primary concern remains Iran's ballistic missiles, they are prepared to move and could be fired in substantial numbers within 24 hours

I read a couple days ago that the deputy had planned to resign for several weeks

My guess is the two near windows if Iran isn't going to wait to do something (and given their recent public unrest I don't think they can afford to wait long) are:

1. The next 24 to 48 hours

2. Next weekend after Friday payers are finished but before Monday).

Now if they were really smart and not under pressure, they might wait a month or three until things calm down and then whack with surprise after the major eyes are off the immediate balls.

But given the situation in Iran, where just a couple of weeks ago they were firing on their own young people who were protesting with live bullets, I don't think they can afford to wait.

I think tonight will probably be quiet (I could be wrong) but all bets are off once the final act of getting Sulimani's body planted is finished in the morning Iran time/late night or very early morning US time.

Roger that.

Swamp = quagmire. I.e. face a quagmire called "revenge". As opposed to revenge called up by the swamp, as in "swamp-called". Nothing to do with the Deep State, if that's where you were going.
And, it may have EVERYTHING to do with the deep state puppeteers, pulling the strings of their puppets.

Who is the deep state?

Who are their (various) puppets?
