A reminder that this site gives aggregated data in real time. It not only provides the state, but also the counties. Additionally, it does a decent job with it's supporting documentation, whether it is news reports, county health press releases or whatever. It has a small number of archived newscasts, interactive graphs and maps as well.1583837764547.png

I have an email in to them to see if there's a way for us to c/p and share the data...I will let you know if I hear back from them.

Not certain what is being asked re: inclusion of health dept data : There are a handful of differing aggregators shown on this thread. Off hand, I can't think of any of them having spoke to the whys of which data sources they use. IIRC from the way back machine, it was always a problem sorting fact from rumour, and getting accurate counts when relying on faulty and misinformed media and word of mouth reports.

Doing the gene sequencing and tracing work really required confidence in the cases, as well as the intake methods and info, which is probably in some part responsible for preferring those channels for info gathering. But I'm just thinking out loud, and guessing.

Wait, wut? That graph in post #169.... it indicates that there are almost 3 times as many deaths as recovered patients?!!! Death rate just under 75, recovery rate just over 25. (Per the cited website United States Coronavirus: 1,329 Cases and 38 Deaths - Worldometer, death rate in the US (of resolved cases) is 72%?!!!) WHOA! :shkr:

I HOPE that death/recovery rate is based on those that are sick enough that they actually end up at the hospital, which is only a small percentage of the total cases. Otherwise... Captain Trips (or a close facsimile) is here. (70% infected x 72% mortality ~~ 50% deaders.)

Well. Supposedly, here in Alabama you MUST go through health department so you can be cleared for testing for 19. I don’t get it.

Other day woman who tested for flu (don’t know details) was told do NOT come to HD. Go to ED. She had recently returned from Italy. I simply don’t get the reason the health department is involved at all. Though they are supposedly who you call first even from doc’s office. Seems lame. Too many cooks in the pot.(As far as I can tell)

Heads up for MS residents and those in near status states:

We're got our first confirmed case in MS. It's in Forrest Co. which is where Hattiesburg is located along with Southern MS and Camp Shelby, about one county out from the coast.

Doc1 here's thinking of you.

Contracted the virus on a trip to Florida, got it from the site jward keeps posting from.

I'm hearing rumors that there is a possible case of the "novel" coronavirus in the Huntsville, AL area. Not sure yet. But I've also been told that as of yesterday or the day before, there were no test kits in the state of Alabama for this virus, and that is the reason why the state had no confirmed cases as of yesterday.

First case of coronavirus in Lehigh Valley, as state total rises to 21, officials say
  • Mar 12, 2020 Updated 20 min ago
Upcoming Livestream - 2:00 p.m. Governor Tom Wolf and Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine will hold a news briefing on the latest COVID-19 developments.
HARRISBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania state health officials are reporting more positive cases of coronavirus, including the first in the Lehigh Valley.
An adult in Northampton County tested presumed positive for COVID-19, the state health department reported Thursday morning.

Northampton County Executive Lamont McClure released a statement in response, which can be read in full at the bottom of this page.
There were also four more presumed positive cases in Montgomery County.

The five new cases are all adults either in isolation at home or being treated at the hospital, state health officials said.
That makes 21 cases of coronavirus in Pennsylvania:
  • Bucks (2)
  • Delaware (1)
  • Monroe (2)
  • Montgomery (13)
  • Northampton (1)
  • Philadelphia (1)
  • Wayne (1)

The cases in Delaware and Wayne counties have been confirmed positive by the CDC, while the rest tested positive in a state lab and are awaiting CDC confirmation.
As of Thursday morning, there were 196 people in Pennsylvania tested for coronavirus. Of them, 100 have tested negative and 75 are pending. The other 21 are the positive cases listed above.
So far, no one in Pennsylvania has died of coronavirus.

I see. Not sure I've seen that asked, nor answered, anywhere. Probably something to do with streamlining responses, establishing clear chains of commands and keeping things simple, clean and efficient lol. As we progress we will definitely be fighting this cheek to jowl, belt buckle to belt buckle. For this reason, I actually would like to see a strong health dept oversight/chain of command, because each community will be relying on a well supplied and informed commander on the ground who has knowledge of their piece of the picture. Additionally, all the tedious book work, t crossing and i dotting that will be required to enact any federal and state aid is probably best handled by agencies such as that, and will take the burdens off the ind. HC providers. Again just initial thoughts, def. w/o much thought...

NE Alabama: All of our facilities (long term care) approx. 8 went on lockdown at midnight. Several other facilities in the nearby area have done the same. One facility said no visitors after 5p??? WTH? But I worked for them quite awhile and well, not the brightest in the box.

What I was told this means: no lab, no doc appointments, no EMS unless at deaths door, no PT, no Home Health in the building. Do not know about nurse practitioner yet. Yippee! So if I fall in the floor they have to drag me out of facility for EMS pickup. No kidding.

One person came from TN to visit tonight. Pastor of church. His father turns 88 tomorrow and the family was going to take him out for what they believe will be his last bday. He’s at a different facility but man I felt for them. I’m hoping they will allow it even w the lock down. What’s a day anyway? Too late now. Sigh. He played music for us tonight and I was in tears.

I don't know how you did that. I've been trying for 3 days to copy stuff on that site, so I can report it here, with no results.

I also want to thank you for finding and sharing this. I check it a couple of times a day to see if anything has popped in MS.

No answer from them, unless it's buried in the spam folder: all I'm doing at this point is taking screen shots and saving or pasting. Hope this helps!

:: passin the pot o' hot tea n kleenex :: I do not envy the decision makers, nor fault them, at all. Hard enough managing the small circle of things and people for whom I am responsible. I've taken to wearing my mirrored shades and claiming "allergies" lol. The older folks remind me they're ready and more than willing to go on home. I believe, and respect, and even understand, I think. But still I'm reaching deep these days to find my smile, at times. O well. Per ardua ad astra.

I see they have switched the source to phone #s, presumably to the local health depts. Also I forgot to mention they have added a 'case fatality rate' figure for the individual states. Yes yes yes, i know, no one knows the real numbers- but if the way they derive their snippets/#s over time remains constant, then it should permit one to draw apples to apples comparisons to rate, trajectory and outcomes....j

No, that's percentages... and a VERY confusing graph. Still, the real "official" numbers aren't a lot better... last I saw (post right above this) is 50 deaths, 41 recovered. Now, this *isn't* "just those who were hospitalized", but it IS "only those deemed to fit the criteria to be tested"... meaning there sre thousands of others, with everything from "too mild to bother talking to a doctor" to "very bad, but the local health department has turned deaf ears to the doctors pleading to test them".

Not very reassuring, is it?

That's where my money's at- "Italy here we come" As bumpy as the ride is, I'm glad we've finally started the journey...I think.
...all the sooner to get to the other side. Still, we're wrapping up a mercury retro period, so things might look different in a few days when that shakes out, too.
