Former Fox News Channel anchor Shepard Smith will host a one-hour evening news program for CNBC, the business television network announced Wednesday afternoon.

The new program — The News with Shepard Smith — is slated to begin in the fall and will air at 7: 00 P.M. from Monday to Friday.

“Information is coming at us from every direction,” CNBC chairman Mark Hoffman said in a statement. “If we’re not careful life-altering decisions will be made based on half-truth, rumor, misdirection or worse. We aim to deliver a nightly program that, in some small way, looks for the signal in all the noise.”

Hoffman added that Smith’s show will “serve as the perfect bridge between CNBC’s daytime investor-focused news programming and the network’s aspirational business-oriented entertainment programs in prime time.”

In a separate statement, Smith said that he is “honored to continue to pursue the truth, both for CNBC’s loyal viewers and for those who have been following my reporting for decades in good times and in bad.”

The journalist added that CNBC possesses a “vision for a fact-based, hourlong evening news program with the mission to cut through the static to deliver facts, in context and with perspective.”

The development was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Smith quit Fox News in October 2019 after working at the news organization for over two decades. Smith hosted Shepard Smith Reporting and held the title of chief news anchor and managing editor of Fox News’ breaking news unit.

Smith, known for his critical coverage of President Donald Trump, has made just one public appearance since leaving Fox News in which he decried the “intimidation” of journalists at the 2019 International Press Freedom Awards.

He wasn't a half bad reporter years past when he burst onto the scene - factual, confident yet seemed pretty nuanced and balanced both .... but he seemingly let the Faux News internal drama finally catch up with and overwhelm him. Maybe it was going to all blow up sooner or later; there'd been nothing but infighting there with the various kerfuffles involving Geraldo, O'Reilly, Megyn Kelly, the attempts to take Hannity down, etc.

It seemed that he handled his own outing with all the grace he could muster when he finally admitted that he looked forward at the end of the day to go home to the man he loved. And there it was; he was gone.

I don't even have a TV hookup anymore but if I did, I doubt I'd waste much time watching Faux News. What's disgusting is that they're still the pick of the litter, which says more about the rest of the litter than it does about them, actually.

CNBC business channel continues to deteriorate.
A Black reporter is now being given more air time.

Going to have to put the channel on mute and just watch the tape.

I used to watch CNBC for Market news, but never once has it occurred to me to watch it for actual evening news-type news.

Methinks this will not be a huge hit.

Let me tell you what I know About Shep. My name for him is Knock em down Shep. Years ago, when he was fairly young, still an up and coming reporter, he was rushing to get a scoop somewhere across a parking lot. He knocked someone over in the lot, I think it was a woman. Didn't stop, check on her or anything. He rushed onto whatever he was rushing towards.
He's an Azzhole and will always be that.

didn't even know the little butt muncher left faux snooze . . . back in the day when he was at WKMG (CBS) in Orlando he was a pretty decent anchor . . . stopped paying any attention to him when his TDS overtook his (alleged) professionalism

I give up.
He's mostly a good guy, one of those true workaholics. He used to be married, but it didn't work out. His partner is someone he's been with for a long time, and they are happy. Why hate Shep?

Regardless of what anyone thinks of Faux News and I'm not gonna disagree but Tucker Carlson has been on target for a long while. It's the only cable news show on any channel that I watch. I'm surprised he's not in a ditch somewhere decomposing.

I'll tell you why, I despise his views on things. I remember when there were hurricanes and he was a reporter out there in the weather I thought he did that well, but the worm turned.

People change. I haven't watched Fox News for years now, so I never knew when he went off the rails. I won't watch his new show either.

I don't hate Shep - I hate sheps TDS - I don't care who somebody loves or what color somebody is - until they begin to forcibly impose their value system and beliefs on me . . . then its FOAD

I don’t know about ‘good guy’ seemed he was ok because his left leaning slant kind of balanced things early on, until they got rid of conservatives and added progressive neo-cons and more leftists at Fox. Now there is Tucker alone at the front.

Shep was ALWAYs another attack conservatives and conservative position rino, so he will fit right in at CNBC, his fake conservative cred’s will wither in the We are Borg single mind network news assimilate or die.

I used to watch CNBC in the morning to get a handle on the market but there was more and more one sided politics being spewed out that even having Joe Kernen couldn’t rebalance the propaganda and leftist crap.

Watching CNBC is like going into a High School history class today, it’s unrecognizable from what you remember and you just know that most today is just lies and nonsense.

Can't stand watching all these sodomites put into positions of power, in your face. I see them and know they have sex with other men.....it's disgusting. Where has that mouth been........no need to wonder. Pure filth, and notice that's all that comes out.....

There's a reason so many news casters are gay, and has little to do with skill sets.....media conspiring to show how normal it is....bs

That's true. Being without TV (and his show is relatively new), I'd forgotten about him. The thing I like is that he's not a repetetive firebrand like their other big celebrity - and that's conceding that Hannity is usually correct; he just gets tiresome.

From what I can observe from afar, Carlson surely does appear to have hit his stride and is doing a great job kind of all by himself out there.
