CORONA CDC advises Michigan to lockdown, no additional vaccines

I mentioned on a different thread that I just got an email that my credit union is shutting down its lobby again. At the moment, I know about a dozen people with COVID-- a few of whom are extended family members. I have a feeling that Whitless will give into the pressure.

CDC advises Michigan to lockdown, no additional vaccines

e Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advised the state of Michigan to enter another lockdown on Monday as the state suffers from the worst COVID-19 outbreak in the country. Governor Gretchen Whitmer has previously said that she will not institute a lockdown order to deal with the current surge of cases.

Dr. Rochelle Walensky of the CDC called for the lockdowns on Monday when she was asked about the situation in Michigan. Whitmer has asked the federal government for a larger vaccine allocation to deal with the surge. Walensky said in a press conference that vaccines are not the answer for dealing with the surge:
“So when you have an acute situation, extraordinary number of cases like we have in Michigan, the answer is not necessarily to give vaccines. The answer to that is to really close things down, to go back to our basics, to go back to where we were last spring, last summer and to shut things down, to flatten the curve.”
She said additional vaccine allocation could not have a tangible effect on quelling the surge for a few weeks.

Michigan has a seven-day rolling average of over 7,000 new cases a day. The state is averaging more new cases per capita than any state in the country. Michigan has recorded its highest daily totals over the past few weeks since another surge of cases after Thanksgiving.

Lockdowns have been a source of controversy in Michigan. When the pandemic began last Spring, Whitmer instituted strict lockdowns to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In April, armed protesters filled the halls of the state capital. It was later revealed that some of the men present at the protest had plotted tokidnap the governor.

Republicans in the state also attempted to limit the governor’s use of executive orders to deal with COVID-19. Some Republican members of the state legislature attempted to impeach the governor due to the COVID orders. A conservative controlled supreme court also struck down the governors executive orders filed at the start of the pandemic. The legislature also passed HB 1, which would restrict the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ ability to declare a state of emergency. Whitmer vetoed the bill.

In total, more than 800,000 cases have been recorded in Michigan since the pandemic began in March 2020. The state has also recorded more than 17,000 deaths. Many of those cases are concentrated in Winter 2020 and Spring 2021, as the state largely avoided the Summer 2020 surge that many other states struggled with.

More than 20% of Michiganders have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. More than 5.5 million of the 7 million doses the state has been allocated by the federal government have been distributed. Michigan is one of 11 states to have distributed at least 5 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccines.

And more crap about "case count".

Some day it will leak out how the amplification rate of the BS PCR test are increased to make case counts go up and are lowered to make case counts go down.

Depending on the agenda and narrative in play, of course.

Anyone out there in the PCR test labs who can deny this?

Why are the cases going up in Michigan? Are the hospitals there also being overwhelmed too? (I pay more attention to the hospital status because case numbers can be faked a lot easier than sick/dead bodies piling up in the hospital.)

Is this due to the more contagious variant(s) gaining a foot hold there? Or has the state been on extreme lockdown until recently? Other states that have been open/normal for a long while are not seeing a surge. At least, not yet. What gives?

Here in Indiana the masks are losing their grip. Went into an Autonation yesterday. Thought I would need a mask and didn't have one. Went in anyway. Asked the clerk if I needed one and he said no with a wave of his hand as if swatting away a fly. That Genie will be hard to get back in the bottle. It seems nobody believes the BS about the Jyna virus anymore.

Since Mississippi opened back up, we've seen less than 300 cases a day (statewide), and some days, less than 100. The only masks that I see worn are in businesses that still require them and doctor's offices. Everyone here seems to be back to business living their lives.

How long ago did MS open back up?

I can't remember, but we reopened the same day Texas did. Someone from Texas could possibly tell ya, though, if they chime in.

eta....I just looked it up. Gov. Reeves lifted our lockdown on March 2, the same day as Texas.

Funny over the weekend me nd the wife went out to get stuff from lowes.
We struck out the then went over to depot.
I had my mask in my pocket after lowes and never put it on when I walked into depot.
10 minutes went by and nothing, until my wife noticed and yelled at me. Lol

Went to another lowes over in pa on Monday evening and lots of people with no masks.

Never let a crisis of your making go to waste...she said the quiet part of the plan out loud.

How to deal with anti-vac/passport people:

We are not going to reach herd immunity because of Vaccine/Passport hesitancy.

We need to make it clear to them that the Vaccine/Passports are the ticket back to pre-pandemic life.

The window to do that is really narrowing.

All these States are opening up too fast at 100%, and the window to do that is narrowing...to tie States reopening policy to Vaccination/Passport Status.

What is the carrot going to be...how are we going to incentivize people to get the Vaccine/Passports?

That is why CDC and Biden Administration needs to come out a lot bolder and say if your vaccinated you can do all these things and have freedoms other wise all these people will go out and seize these freedoms before they get the Vaccine/Passports.

Most of Tennessee (with the exception of Memphis and Nashville) opened back up before Memorial Day 2020.

Open areas of the state had Covid numbers that were on par with the closed areas of the state during the entire time. When the open area rates were high, so were the closed areas. When the open area races were receding, so were the closed areas.

I suspect it’s a variant. I mentioned this in a different thread but I now know about 20 people who have it (all in Michigan). And I went nearly all of 2020 without knowing a single person who had it. My family all had a small get together last weekend, and someone was contagious. (I wasn’t there.) Half of them came down with it (8 people so far with both symptoms and positive tests). Three of them went to work feeling fine in the morning but were sick by the end of the day. And yep, they work with the public.

I’m not worried about COVID as a concern for my life, but neither do I want to get sick. So hubs and I are going to be hermits for a few weeks and see how this all plays out.

Uh, it may be all the, hey, what do you call them now. Illegals - no, that’s not it. Anyway, all those people they are flying in from El Paso, etc. But I’m probably wrong.

Called it! So, basically, all of these folks who followed the rules, "did the right thing," got their vaccine, wore face diapers, social distanced, and gave up their freedoms, STILL aren't even going to get the reward they were promised for giving up their freedom. :shk:

Much of the state is rather surprised with her soft hand approach of late. She spent a year bludgeoning the state, now suddenly she's playing nice? It makes little sense.

Maybe someone showed her the state budget; it IS almost tax time. Maybe she got word that the Unlock Michigan petition can't be stopped at this point and she'll be neutered anyway, so she's trying to build some good karma. Who KNOWS what's going on in Lansing any more?

I think she lockdown hard before in order to impress Biden... vying for a cabinet position or maybe even VP. Now that she didn’t get it, I honestly don’t believe she gives a flyin’ flip.

I have shirttail (3rd cousins) snowbird relatives who have residences in both Clearwater, FL and St. Clair Shores, MI.
They normally return to Michigan around May 1. This year, they are staying in FL, perhaps through the summer.

I think that's probably a good decision the way things are going.

Probably pretty galling for her that Buttigieg got a cabinet post and she got the shaft. Her chances of getting back in governor are pretty slim too unless Dominion can cheat her a win.

No surge in AR , yet. We were always open ( mostly) had two surges that lasted awhile. We have two cases admitted now. It was running around 20-25 during the surge.

I live in northern Michigan and haven’t worn a face diaper in 2 months. I did it for a year, and that was enough for me. I’ve been noticing more and more that others aren’t wearing masks either. I’m happy to see that.

Do you not have exemptions up there for persons with disability that don't have to wear masks ?

Such exemptions do exist, yes, but their application is unclear. Especially in the face of a Karen horde that will frantically start narcing the second a lack of mask is spotted.

I use it and I am a permanent and total disabled veteran..I take orders from no person ...if I get a total mask or get out ,I leave but I make it known in no uncertain terms that if it's company policy fine ..if they are enforcing the state order they are in violation of the FULL ORDER and I will never return ...mostly I'm left alone to continue on about my business

If I'm grocery shopping first thing, I don't bother with a mask. I do wear one if I'm there later in the day when the Karens are out. I prefer to avoid run-ins with them right now.

Oh, just let one of those Karens say something to me! I welcome it. I never wear a mask and never get more than maybe a passing look.
