HEALTH Cardiologist

From the Wideawake Club thread, I had a my cardiology appointment today. Dayum.

I had a Lipo Protein A lab ordered by his office and he wasn't even aware of what the score was. I had to tell him.

(Lipo protein A is a genetic marker for heart attack, stroke, a fib probabilities)

Then after the EKG report posted, I get the result stating that I have 'possible' pulmonary disease. Of all the other EKGs over the last four or five weeks that never popped up.

I had to send him a message to ask him to explain that.

It's really great to see that in black-and-white instead of having the doctor tell you. In fact he never reviewed the EKG while I was in the office.

My cardiologist is good but the problem is he's booked up to a year out. They can squeeze you in with one of the assistant practitioners though.

Luckily for me I'm doing fairly well so don't really need him urgently. "knock on wood"

Seems the trend now because some of my other doctors are pretty booked up too.

DH saw one this year. I told him (DH) to ask the cardiologist about his "Frank's ear" which means creases on the earlobe which are about 75% accurate in diagnosing heart disease. He didn't ask. Cardiologist didn't run any tests. If I need to see one, I'm telling my GP (we have the same) that I want a different one than his. His mom has had heart probelms for years. There is family history. Do a little more.

My sister has serious heart issues and had an appointment for a six-month checkup ... the doctor's office kept changing her appointment until it ended up being a year checkup. She has around 8 doctors and from what she has been telling me, they are all overwhelmed with patients. Medical and dental services are becoming more and more difficult to access, and it seems the more specialized the more difficult.

My local clinic "doctor" is a nurse practitioner and I'm very happy with her. She refers when needed and will make the appointment for you. She doesn't rush and takes time to listen. Doesn't hurt that she's not a flaming liberal.

I got in to see his nurse practitioner early May. At the time he was booked out until October. I thought she was great. Once they got the heart monitor report his office called me to set up an appointment June 1 or 2nd, after he got back from his vacation.

It was either alot of who shot John or he was ill prepared for my visit. I'll take the latter for $1000, Alex.

This is the 2024 Harvard MD recruitment video, which I tried to find the discussion I thought the TB2K had but didn't but can't keep looking due to an appt this morning. If you watch, there are very few white guys. Some Asian guys. Lots of women of all types.

2023 recruitment video from Columbia on how much fun you'll have. Same. Lots of women, lots of ethnic guys but a few more white guys in the video than Harvard.

They both do new videos every year. Diversity is alive and well in both schools if th videos are representative of the ethnic make up.

DEI in medical schools, too...................?

That and big Pharma has them uneducated and just throwing pills at everybody. Saw a video with three Doctors lamenting about the state of medical education recently.

Dr Dhand isn't like that. He's of Indian (dot not feather) culture, raised in the UK, and touts herbal assistance to medical issues as well as healthy lifestyle as beneficial to overall health.

Those real Doctors listen to their patients too. So rare and refreshing!

DD has been very lucky in the cardiology department. Her cardiologist is fantastic as is her electrophysiologist. I suppose given her age (39, all started when she was 37), they took it very serious. The issue was her insurance. She has Tricare (military) and has to get referrals for everything. When you have to see specialist, and have procedures done, that can be a long process.

My long time cardiologist was put out to pasture because he spent too much time with his patients. I was very annoyed. He did an annual stress echo test plus other test. The new doc, part of a different health group spends 5 minutes with me once a year. I asked about a stress test and he said we can do it every other year if I want to.

Addison Rose,

Research heart problems and make copies of potential problems and methods of treatment. Take this info with you to the appointment(s) and refer to it as needed. Ask questions especially if you do not understand what your doc is saying.

My DW and I both have cardiology problems and drive from 90 miles to nearly two hundred miles to see cardiologist specialists.

If your doc is hesitant about answering your questions press the doc and if you get pushback, find another cardiologist.
