Save-A-Lot and Aldi's almost always have their hams priced at $2 each.

Our Big Lots has Treet on sale today for $1.98.

I finally saw a package of Stagg brand chili. It was in a treated paper container. How well do those store?

I am also curious about these boxes of chili. It seems the boxes would make very nice space-saving stacks on the shelves, but how well do they hold up?

Nut,

The BOXED Stags are nice, but only rated for 2 years, The best tasting COMMERCIAL chilli I've tasted.

I agree. The boxed Stagg chilis are great and easy to store and rotate. They make a great meal over a potato or to make a quick taco salad. They have them B1G1 free every so often (Bi Lo) and I buy them then - even better if I have coupons - I've gotten many boxes for 19 cents or better.

Wally World has...

...Spam everyday at $1.98. Also the "Lite" version, the "Turkey" version and the "Hickory smoked" version at the same price.

Sadly, they no longer seem to carry the "Jack Link" precooked ground beef in foil containers.

Not a big fan of Walmart but they do have the best prices in town on a LOT of American sourced items.

Best,
Joe

I finally found the good DAK canned hams at Wally World this morning. First time they have had them in a long time. I bought all 17 of them that they had. Also loaded up on Canned tamales. Went by BigLots and they are running the 2 servings Bear Creek soup mixes on sale for .99 cents each.

Our local grocery store had hormel 5oz chunk ham 10 for $10 this week. Regular $1.69/can. I had to get 10, & will try to get 10 more before the sale ends. best thing is they are marked with a April 2009 expiration date.

Is this a local, regional or national store chain? If regional or national, names please.

I don't that that retort packaging will last as long as cans. However, it does taste much better IMHO.

Yeah, the new Staggs are better tasting than the canned, of course they take up less space .... smaller amount per box than cans, I generally put it on rice to stretch it. Even the cans don't last forever because the tomato sauce is corrosive, probably the boxes last as long.

DAK ham tastes ok if fried even a little. Most of the canned pork products seem to need frying to taste decent, it's not surprising that they taste bad eaten cold, considering all the chemicals and the rumor that they're mostly made up of leftovers from real meat processing that are washed into a drain, mixed with disinfectant, and pressed into cans. :kaid: Hope my Walmart has some of those specials when I go Monday, they've been a bit high priced on that stuff lately.

I found canned corned beef, 49 cents a can at BigLots with a use by date of 2009.
I bought every last one of them and left the cans that were marked $1.29.
