WTF?!? Canada and wild fires

Saw a picture of the Mackinaw Bridge and I wouldn't be surprised if they shut it down because you sure can't see much except smoke!

DS said he was going to walk to the Store (grocery), about two blocks away from his house. I advised him to get out a mask (from the Covid era), because it's so bad out there.

He kinda poo-pooed me until he stepped outside. He went and got a mask.

The smoke is so bad in my AO that we can smell it inside our house.

I have to take the trash to the curb and get the mail yet.

Do I know where my mask is...no. Probably will just tie an old tee-shirt around my nose and mouth.

Strange times we are living in. Severe heat this week and now intense smoke. I don't want to try to guess what's next because I'm kinda doomer oriented.

Yes, the wind has been up all afternoon. It seems to be blowing it in another direction. I couldn't take it and went and took a long nap, so look what it is now. Oh, BTW, my son was researching this and it turns out the peat is also on fire up in Canada, so that's making even more of a mess:

I'm young enough to remember when the Ute Indians ran Natural Resource departments for Utah.

The Ute used to come to our school's every quarter to bring in rescued wildlife, snakes, bugs, tarantulas, plants and soil samples. These were small classes we would have one week in replacement of P.E. They also showed what life would have been like and also many of the customs and seasonal rituals.

Very cool!

I learned so much from those encounters, I truly believe that is where I got my I interests in biology, medicine, and science.

That was back in the day when there was real people that knew how to nip problems based off of experience and perseverance. Lot of them used to do it as volunteer work or work with land owners.

Now everyone wants to get paid, and want all this fancy gear and stuff.

The problem we got now is everyone over complicates things. Everything is over complicated.

UH, the wind doesn't blow from the west. Might as well place the blame on the US for creating all the acid rain and climate change that created all the dead wood. For all the good blaming will do. The boreal forests are so huge that nothing on a human scale will make any difference apart from trying to extinguish the fires as they start. Prevention is nearly impossible.

I did say maintain and EXTINGUISH the fires
 
Exactly how do you "maintain" millions of square miles of boreal forrest? Inquiring minds want to know. Those forests have burned every summer for millennia and will continue to do so. Nothing on a human scale will change that.
 
I posted on another thread here that I stepped outside about two hours ago and we now have smoke and the smell from the fires on going in Canada. Two hours later it seem's like the smoke is getting thicker and the smell of smoke it getting stronger.
 
It's not too horribly bad here so far today. The sky has a lot of real blue, but weird streaky grey clouds are moving in from somewhere. I can't tell, they're moving real slow. Hmmm,, we'll see.
