Can McAfee slow login?

Wasn't having any problem whatsoever until I downloaded McAfee Virus Scan and now login takes several minutes...what is wrong, anyone know?

Well I dunno, but just uninstalled THAT program and found no probs at start up...makes one say, hmmm.

Here's the deal - one of the settings in McAfee is to "scan system at start-up". That scan takes some time. You can set the option to OFF in the program prefs.

That's it? Just a setting? Well then, perhaps I should re-install and try again. I swear I shall die of computer stress.

Whatever you do, don't run Outlook Express if you use McAfee. There's a complex bug that results in McAfee periodically deleting ALL the mail in your Inbox, with no way to recover it (unless you make periodic backups). Happened several times to me within a few months, now I don't run either piece of software. The full Outlook is OK with McAfee though, as well as other email programs.
