UPLAND, Calif. (KABC) -- An Upland man was arrested after he allegedly beat his wife to death, left her on the side of a road and then abandoned his 12-year-old daughter at a gas station in the Mojave Desert, authorities said.

Jesus Jaimes-Rosas, 37, was booked into the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto on suspicion of murder and was being held without bail Tuesday, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

A California Highway Patrol officer and deputies from the Barstow sheriff's station responded about 11:45 p.m. Friday after a 12-year-old girl walked into the convenience store at a Shell gas station on Cima Road in Nipton and asked for help, a sheriff's news release said.

"When deputies arrived, the child indicated her father beat her mother and left her on the side of the road," the statement said. According to investigators, Jaimes-Rosas dropped the child off at the gas station and fled.

Shortly before 1:30 a.m. the following morning, deputies found the suspect's vehicle abandoned on the side of a dirt road. A sheriff's K-9 unit also responded to the area and discovered Jaimes-Rosas with self-inflicted injuries, authorities said.

The injured suspect was transported to a hospital and later released.

Hours later, about 11:45 a.m., the victim, 31-year-old Sonia Flores, was found dead, the Sheriff's Department said. The investigation was taken over by members of the agency's Specialized Investigations Division - Homicide Detail.

I have absolutely no sympathy for the perp; you guys know my standard suggested punishment, right? Public hanging or firing squad on the town square.

Having said that, I'll note that as we enter times of greater economic distress and societal upheaval we can expect more and more of these types of crimes. This was almost certainly an impromptu 'crime of passion' as the guy almost certainly did not wake up planning to kill his wife and traumatize his daughter.

Any marriage or long term relationship is going to have its ups and downs. When you add in the stress of job loss, not being able to make the rent or car payment, etc. you'll see more and more situations where what would've normally been a few sharp words traded, turns into a homicide.

Again, I'm not making those observations to in any way justify the perp's actions, but to point out that in our increasingly unstable times greater dangers exist for everyone. Watch your six, keep your situational awareness at high levels and always be prepared to take immediate defensive action.

Hopefully people's lives getting harder, hungrier, and meaner will destroy any sympathy for the leftists permissive tolerance of criminal behavior.... we used to hang horse thieves, now we give child molesters probation!

Maybe we can find a happy medium where thieves can be shot in the act, and prowlers after dark.... Frontier style sundow laws would cure lots of our current problems.... especially in my neighborhood!

At least he left his daughter where aid was available.....

From the description, it sounds like it was a rage crime. And he had enough control to realize that he needed to get his daughter away from him. And when he finished coming down, he tried to suicide.

Does not mean to let him off. Just my read on it.
