It is deeply overcast today as the tropical storm slides up the East coast of Florida. We dodged a bullet with this one, should bring some much needed rain though.

This weekend we did start getting ready for hurricane season. Because of the pandemic, most of our supplies are already in place, but I did need "D" batteries. Thank goodness for Amazon because there were none in the local stores. Filling two liter bottles with water to freeze and making large cubed ice helps fill up the deep freeze which kept the freezer frozen during Hurricanes Matthew and Erma for nearly five days. Can't beat that! As long as the entire freezer is full, works really well.

Dinner will be breaded chicken cutlets, mashed potatoes, corn, corn bread, and wine.

How about you? Share a square or just "What's for dinner?"

We need rain, and lots of it. I'm having to water everything just to keep gardens and outdoor plants alive. Everything is hanging on, but barely. Cooler temps, though.

Dinner tonight will be breaded (bread crumbs with a spicy chicken rub mixed in) chicken breasts baked in the oven, mac and cheese, corn on the cob, cornbread, with fresh sliced tomatoes on the side. Sweetened iced green tea. No dessert. I'm all out of ice cream. Thank goodness, tomorrow is restocking day! I'm addicted to ice cream Snickers Bars!

A nice glass of Cabernet Sauvignon will come later tonight.

Oh sure. Now I want chicken too, and I'm out of it at the moment. And ice cream Snickers bars. Dang.

Don't know what's for dinner yet; I suppose I should go look and see what's in the freezer. I'm low-carbing it to lose a few pounds, but son isn't, so hmmm........... back later with decision.

:)

I ran two options by the son - fried chicken, smashed with country gravy and maybe salad OR cottage, sliced tomatoes (not out of the garden - they aren't ready yet), fresh picked cucumbers and sliced avocado with maybe some tuna fish on the side. He went with option 2.

So, will do option 1 tomorrow after I marinate the chicken in egg and buttermilk overnight.

It is a hot, humid day here in central MD. It has been a lazy day at the Zoo. Everyone is doing their own thing -- watching movies, reading, playing games. Dinner is going to be pulled pork sandwiches, chips, dip, and a variety of fresh fruits.

We were expecting rain, but it looks like it has been removed from the forecast. It also looks like the temperatures are going to be cooler than it has been the past month. We had a record number of days over 90 degrees in July. It looks like August will be starting out a little cooler, for which I am thankful.

Couple days break from doing crazy stuff with crazy friends, so trying to catch up. It's a nice cool breezy day today, but no rain in sight. Don't know what the heck is gonna happen for hay around here. I have a feeling there will be lots of beef cattle culled out of this area sometime soon.

So, no rain. I decided had better make the rounds and water cemetery basket flowers. There are three scattered about in various cemeteries that I do every summer for the Old Ones. Got down to the hillside place where my maternal Grandma and Grandpa are buried. Gawd...their spawn is such a class act. Pulled up to the site - pretty, shady, nobody around (thankfully) playing "I've Got Friends in Low Places" (oops - haha) on the booming truck stereo, open up the back door to grab the water jug and out falls a whole six-pack of (full) glass beer bottles to the asphalt. Damn. Only one survivor. What a lovely mess...and yes Grandma, THIS is what we've come to. ;) Well, at least they know I'm trying.

Think supper is going to be some kind of casserole dish pot pie thing. I have a lot of veg and assorted meat to use up in the fridge and it sounds easy and tasty. Not too hot a day to use the oven.

I was actually hoping the storm would bring us a little rain and some cooler temps. Maybe tomorrow. The high today was supposed to be 94. It's 99. I am so ready for fall.
Dinner will be cheeseburgers and french fries. Dh offered to do them on the grill but it's too hot to cook inside or out. I don't want him falling out trying to cook. He's got his choice of several kinds of ice cream for dessert.
Hope everyone has a great week and stays healthy!

Only 84 here in St. Pete, cooled off some after a couple of good showers. Sky is blue again now.

Son asked for early dinner, so............

Ended up making chili with a side of rice, and some apple sauce. It's good. No dessert.

Everybody have a good week.

:)

Live Free & Die Free.... God Freedom Country....
Pork ribs and pork ribs with garden squash and garden tomatoes and then probably more pork ribs. Prefer beef ribs, but at $4/lb, steak is cheaper with the waste of bones which is at least 60% of the weight.

Texican....

Sunday is our “date night dinner” being we are only home at night 2-3 a week to eat together.
I got two small filets (a splurge!)
Red wine Pinot Noir
Home fries in the oven from scratch crispy yummy salty lol!
Sliced tomatoes with avocado

Peas with butter and French bread.
Fresh blackberries from the farm stand! Yummy!

I’ll be stuffed (and have a headache tomorrow from the wine but oh well!)

(The rest of the week is usually boring baked chicken breast with whatever I cook tomorrow and wrapped in Saran! )

Since 1999
Started with online church this morning, then fired up the smoker. I smoked tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, and Anaheim (hatch) chilies and garlic to make smoked salsa. I made some earlier in the week and it was a big hit so now making up a bunch to start canning it. My tomatoes are really doing great!

We finally got rain after weeks of extreme hot and dry weather. 3+" and it was welcomed, along with some really nice cool weather and low humidity.

Got the yard mowed and now to figure out what if for supper. I know it will include tomatoes! Will pull something out of the freezer that can go in the air fryer.

One month closer to cooler weather. It's been in the 1-teens here this week. Cooler today only made it to 110.

I made fried cabbage for the first time last night. Wow have I been missing out! Today I made some bacon wrapped jalapenos filled with a garlic cheese filling. Treated my self to a salon day and got a hair cut and pedicure. Just been cleaning. laundry, and cooking the rest of the day. Now just relaxing watching a movie.

My daughter and I have been sewing all week. She is interested in learning to sew again and making her own clothes because it's so hard to find cute stuff at the store.

So far we've made one pair of sleep shorts, 2 pairs of sleep pants(one more is cut and ready to sew)and a sundress. We might tackle a woven tank to go with the last pair of sleep pants if we have enough fabric. (We're using stuff from thrift store grab bags)

Dinner tonight will be Cracklin Chicken from Nom Nom Paleo, garden salad, garden green beans and my daughter might have some vegan tuna salad(made from chickpeas). She's not vegan she's just trying to use up an old can of chickpeas.

Have a good week you guys. Stay safe and well. :)

My son wanted dessert. So I had two Duncan Hines butter cake mixes -- yellow and fudge. He chose fudge.

It's your usual box cake recipe except you put in a stick of soft butter instead of the oil. AND they want you to beat it with your mixer for 5 minutes, way too long. So I baked it and let it cool. It's SO fluffy you can't spread frosting on it. It literally shreds the top of the cake. So I just glopped some on in spots and called it good.

I scooped a goodly portion (you can't slice it) and put it in a bowl, and put the last of the chocolate ice cream on top. He really liked it anyway. I stuck it in the frig to see if it firms up any by tomorrow, but I doubt it will. So you are warned if you see it in the store. I told my son I'll make the yellow box sometime, but I think I'll just mix it a little by hand and see if it comes out less soft and poofy. I usually buy Betty Crocker or Pillsbury cake mix anyway. They always come out good.

If you have time, try putting cake in the freezer before you frost.
