Once again
the DawnSayer arose early before dawn
and called forth his mate.
Stopping at another village home
we collected the Master of the Masonic Lodge
as our starwatch companion.
It was exactly thirty days
since the morning of the Spring Equinox.
Ridvan was about to dawn.
Ridvan - meaning 'delight' in Persian -
and the beginning of
the twelve days of spiritual delight.
The delight of Spring also.
No snow to tromp through -
as there had been thirty days before.
In fact -
we drove to the hill top above Ark Two
in the four wheel drive.
The tripod was still set up
from the evening observation
ten hours before.
The morning sky was dark clouds all over -
except at the very Eastern horizon
it was clear.
Perfect.
Through our marvellous instrument,
which I consider a miraculous
gift from God -
we aligned our points.
All so amazing.
The setting sun had moved 39 feet
to the north from the time of Equinox -
and now the rising sun arose 26 feet
to the north.
The difference being
beyond my comprehension -
but something to do
with the tilt of the earth.
Looking at either side -
the sun moves about a foot a day.
Indeed observing it
an apparant few feet above the horizon
we could see that it had moved over
the width of a finger
from its point of rising.
Our measurements will be
only what our measurements will be -
exact for our points of observation.
One could only get a 'true horizon'
at sea.
In the distance -
perhaps some ten miles away -
we watched the sun rise over a hilltop -
lined with trees.
First peeking through -
low in the trees
and then above the trees.
>From the first position
to the other above the trees
it had moved horizontally a finger width
from the vertical point.
The ancients often built or found a bowl -
much like a football Superbowl
and that would be ideal.
There standing in the center of the stadium
you could see the exact point
where the sun (on a given day)
would pop above the bleachers on rising -
and on the other side
set below them in the evening.
Marking these locations each day for a year -
you would have a calendar
or sundial for the next year
that would tell you -
exactly what day of the year it was
by looking at the sun's rising or setting points.
We are not measuring each day -
in our replica of Stonehenge.
We are doing only the thirty day portals,
on the 21st of each month.
On the 21st of June -
the Summer Solstice -
the first day of summer -
the sun will start back -
and each thirty days
will touching a previous portal
that we have set -
to arrive again at the same spot
that we set the Spring Equinox -
but now it will be the Fall Equinox
on about the 21st of September.
The Portals are perfect -
but the calendar isn't -
because the earth does not move
in an even number of days about the sun -
but rather in 365 and a fraction -
so every now and then we have
to adjust the calendar -
with leap years and such.
Still marvellous for us -
to watch these predicted events.
The ancients did it for the moon
and Venus as well.
If you go out Monday morning (tomorrow)
just before sunrise
you will see an interesting phenomena.
The Moon and Venus will pop over the horizon
just before the sun.
Unfortunately, it is raining here -
so I will miss it -
but otherwise I would be out on the hilltop.
As I arose before dawn yesterday -
I thought to myself -
how many tens of thousands of men -
nay probably hundreds of thousands -
have done the same thing
down through the centuries -
morning after morning -
to obtain the millions of sightings necessary
to build the hundreds of observatories
similar to Stonehenge -
that exist in the world.
These we have still remaining -
some from ten thousand years ago or more -
but how many more were there -
lost from the millennia and races of men
that have come and gone from this planet before.
And then too -
similar observations -
on the uncountable planets
accompanying the billions of stars
in each of the billions of galaxies
that are visible to us.
Standing beneath the Cosmos -
makes Beach aware of the Cosmos -
and puts into perspective
this grain of sand
that we call earth -
in the beach of the Cosmos.
As my friends have often said -
"Life is indeed a Beach".
Infinite space and eternal time -
actually oxymorons -
but such is our perception -
that it gives us pause to contemplate
the meaning of our existence
and the relative insignificance
of the daily headlines.
But, still we must ask -
where we stand in all this.
Most will think me ridiculous
that in all the tens of thousands of years
that we know that
the rising and setting of the sun
has not moved from its appointed places -
that I should think there is any possibility
that I might witness such an event.
Improbable.
And yet -
that is why I have marked the dawning places.
The essential portals are now in place -
and should the earth shift on its axis -
as a part of the Great Catastrophe -
then I shall be able to tell
how much our location has moved -
and comparing it to the globe -
will be able to determine
our new relative location on the earth.
It may be nearer the North Pole -
or nearer the equator.
My vote is for a climate
more like Florida.
I have had enough snow for a while -
but without air conditioners
others around me would find that
most unpleasant.
Idle speculation.
We shall have to just wait -
and see that what will be - will be.
The scoffers have probability on their side,
that tomorrow will be much like today.
Such it has been for untold centuries before -
and such they expect it to continue.
But I can tell you this much -
in the unlikelihood
that I should happen to be right -
you don't want to be standing near
any large bodies of water.
