FOOD Black Pizza Crust

West

Senior
Been seeing a commercial for a local pizza restaurant, showing their signature black crusted pizza. So I had to do some research. Guess it's been a thing since 2017.

This seems to be a good and vary informative piece on the subject....

Snip....

"Have you tried activated charcoal in your juice? Of course you have, poor thing; it's inescapable. Why not take control and try your hands at an activated charcoal pizza crust instead? One never knows when one might need something other than the latest dystopian news to dominate the conversation around the table. Enter black dough as a buoyant alternative. Since activated charcoal doesn’t taste like anything, you can easily add it to foods. Including pizza!

But wait, you may be asking: Why are we ingesting this powdery black substance in the first place? Is it safe? Does it have any health benefits? And isn't it really more gray, anyway?

End snip, the answers and the recipe to above questions at link.

Activated charcoal should ALWAYS be in our cabinets.......so beneficial.....I guess, don't knock it till you've tried it...

I have a large box in my spice cupboard, at the very back. OC and I were cleaning out the cupboard one afternoon and he found my secret stash of activated charcoal, bentonite clay, etc., and he was like "whoa" where did you get this stuff from. This was during the height of covid mind you... I told him to put it back and that it had been there for years, close to twenty years actually. I think he was shocked at the number of herbs and spices I had collected over the past two decades. Its all there if and when the time arrives that it is needed.

Doesn't activated charcoal also interfere with other medications you have in your system? I don't know if I'd want to take a friend that relies on psychotropic meds out for a black crust pizza. YMMV though

As with ALL natural remedies study what you are about to ingest in advance of ingesting the item. I have gobs of herbal medicine books and read up on anything I might put into my tea, etc., first. Some of these herbal remedies can have some serious side effects, like interferring with heart meds, etc.

It's not that it interferes with the medication as in some kind of chemical interaction, but rather that if you take any meds while you have Activated Charcoal in your GI tract, the meds will be soaked up by the charcoal before your body has a chance to absorb them into your blood.
