I think I got this from some message board a few years ago. Makes the best biscuits I've ever tasted, as long as the dough is not overworked. The less you work this, the better they are.

2 cups flour
1 tablespoon sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter Crisco (I just use plain shortening)
1 egg, lightly beaten
2/3 cup milk

Sift dry ingredients into bowl. Cut in Crisco until you have crumbs. Beat egg with fork and blend with milk. Add to dry mixture, stir only until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn onto lightly floured board. Knead lightly. Pat out dough to 1" and cut with floured cutter or glass. Place 1" apart on sheet and bake at 450 for approx 13 minutes. Brush with butter when done.
