I'm getting bioegnineered food in commodities. We are not going to eat it and I'm not going to feed it to my dog. What the heck should I do with it? I hate to give it away and some one get sick from it.

The food has contained the bioengineered components for a long time (many years to decades), but the law changed so they had to start writing it on the box. For at least many of the products, it was bioengineered before it was labeled.

I would guess that much of that food is already at bioengineered at food banks, so you could give it to them since they are eating it anyways. You could also find a needy family that does not care about gmo and offer it to them. Otherwise, about the only thing you could do would be to throw it away.

I've noticed that on labels too. Guess I've been eating it all along. I remember when irradiated spices were a concern. Havent heard about that in years. Organic and single ingredient is the only way I know to avoid most of it. It's become time consuming and exhausting to find healthy food. Especially in small towns where shopping options are limited.
Growing your own not an option for everyone. I'd like to find a local source for beef but that doesnt't mean it hasn't had GMO feed etc.

So its GMO. Thanks for the comments ladies. I've been avoiding GMO for several years.

DH gives GMO corn to our goats, the pigs and puts it out for the deer. Trying to find non gmo corn would be difficult and expensive.

Glad to see a thread about this topic as most food related threads and stories here don't seem to mention it. The whole gluten-free thing got started b/c so many people were sensitive to the gmo wheat that is grown so much in this country (=$$$). Once I realized that the non-gmo wheat grown in Europe meant the gluten sensitive could often eat European products with no problem, a little research showed how much gmo ingredients were in everything.

Most of the gmo food is altered to make using Round Up, or glysophate on the crop easy. The pesticide is what most people are allergic to. and gmo crops mean they can use a LOT of the pesticide on it.

There is now a non-gmo project which has a tag on many ordinary foods in the grocery store, and I look for it. Organic foods are also non-gmo by definition, so that is a quick way to find them, but more expensive. Watching for sales is fun anyhow.
I'm a guerilla grocery shopper when it comes to gmo and organic. :)
