WEATHER Big heat wave coming for much of the country

I’m not seeing any real news articles on this, but it’s supposed to be in the mid-90s here in Missouri next week. I keep an eye out on other temps and forecasts as well, and noticed much of the Great Lakes region is also supposed to be in the 90s.

Get your ice makers, fans, and A/C units ready, and prepare to keep your animals cool.

What does next week’s forecast look like for you?

Mid eighties... lows high fifties to mid 60s. One of the things I'll miss when we move farther south in a few years!

I didn’t know you planned on moving south. How come? That’s a big move. Ask me how I know... LOL I really want to move back up north, but the logistics are a nightmare.

Did you watch them? What did they do?

Yup they cleaned the condenser with some sort of spray cleaner and then water. Opened up where the coils are inspected. They were clean. Checked temps and pressure, it was within reason for a 50 year old machine. Sealed up some leaky spots with metal tape. Watched him the whole time, he talked about what he was doing and why. He's also voting for Trump.

It's cooling noticeably better.
Guy says run it, it's fine.

Sounds right. It's good that you watch them and ask questions.

When you said they opened up the coils and inspected them, would assume that your talking about the evaporator coils. There is a product that comes in spray cans that one simply sprays onto the evap coils and I highly recommend it, even if the coil looks clean. It's a no rinse cleaner and disinfectant. Have them do it next year.

Best,

Best,

I think it was the evaporator coils. It's the part of the unit that on top of my furnace. It was actually very clean. It hasn't been cleaned since I moved in here 20 years ago.

Probably replacing the whole system this Fall. It's older than me by a few years. Tough call, it's a General Electric and could run for years more.

Got my AC serviced today.

:ussm:
I need to service mine. It's fairly new. Last bunch I had in servicing it just pretended to do routine maintenance. Their main job was to tell me I might want to look at a new AC unit...with this one being 3 years old. LOL!

Mid 90's and humid, it's big news here in central Iowa. We'll get the window AC for the bedroom put in this weekend.

At minimum evaporator coils need to be cleaned every five years. We and many of my friends clean ours every year because we live in the country and have dogs.

No matter the filtering system we have and even if we change filters monthly. It needs to be done.

Glad you seen threw them, hopefully you didn't pay them much, if any.

A full AC service should first be cleaning both the evap and condenser plus pulling and cleaning the blower cage. And noting the duct sizes to make sure you have proper airflow. Then adjust charge and inspect contactors, capacitors, etc..

I might need you to come clean my units.

So far here in south central KY a cooler than usual spring and summer. Just a few muggy sweaty days. Hope to keep it that way!

Yikes you guys. Today here was sunny and mid to upper 60s. Lovely breeze this evening and birds singing their little hearts out. Wish there was a way to wrap up a day like this for you folks down south right now.

But I'm Kodiak bound, so will have a chance to cool off a bit, LOL. ;)

We had a "clean and check" done about 2 weeks ago.

Originally our weather was looking like mid/high 80's but now high 80's to mid 90's into next week, glad I took a few days off and can enjoy our pool.

96 - 102 last 10 days - and next 10 days - plus no rain.

What surprises me is the wind - for the last 10 days or more it has blown - day and night 15 - 25 mph.

Were used to wind in Wichita but this is getting to me.

Anything over 60 is HOT to me.

Not sure how they do it - but I'm convinced our weather is being manipulated.

When we bought this house in southern MS ten years ago, the place had been vandalized and the central AC had been stolen. It was a Wells Fargo foreclosure and had been vacant for a year.

Instead of replacing the central AC when we renovated, we went with window units. We have four throughout the house. As of this week - during the day - we've been running three. By August, we'll be up to four.

The last day of May had a high of 98. The coolest high in June was yesterday at 64 and nearly 2 average June's amount of rain in about 15 hours. There were 2 days of 96 and 2 days of 97 scattered through June. I have absolutely no idea what tomorrows weather will be. Neither do the local weather guessers. Fortunately I have finished almost everything I need to do outside.

One of the things I'll miss when we move farther south in a few years!

Changes in latitude can be offset by changes in altitude.

Watch http://asheweather.com/Forecast/Warrensville for a while and see what 2500 - 3000 feet can do. That's my closest reporting station, BTW.
Oh, I know! When we camped for a week in Virginia in 2018, it was running 95 degrees and 90% humidity at the campground. We headed to ?Great Smoky? National park, and it was 73 and gorgeous.

We're at 1700 feet here,.. looking for hills wherever we end up.

hey peeps it is summer what do you expect it is supposed to get hot out side..
as for me i would rather have the heat than freezing weather of winter..

Before we moved 4 years ago I loathed summer, too many of my years spent inside a data center that probably averaged 64 degrees and office space in the low/mid 70's. Now we're more "in the country" and while I never would have installed a pool at our old place, this one has a nice inground pool and I love floating around on a raft.

Saved, to glorify God.
It is JULY in Washington state and I'M FREEZING!
I can't believe how on July third, I have to dress to avoid needing to turn on the baseboard heaters.
As it is I am occasionally turning on the electric heater at my feet as I sit here in sweatpants, fur bootie slippers, long sleeve sweatshirt, under a jacket, drinking hot drinks and trying to enjoy you tube videos.
I think I have to return to wearing long johns under the sweat pants, in July!
Maybe if I add a tshirt under the long sleeve sweatshirt it will be warmer.
I just checked the weather stats unit laying on the table and apparently IT IS ME, probably my thyroid acting up.
It has finally reached 68 Degrees in the house (it is 2:45am Fri morning) it is 53 outside heading for 51, the local weather numbers report. It sure doesn't FEEL like 68 in here. I don't know how it got that warm inside with the temp outside in the low 50's, none of the heaters are on. The TV does generate a lot of heat though.

BTW, I did buy a 4 foot X 100 foot long roll of that new REFLECTIX highly reflective, (mirror like) heavy, non tearing mylar, INSULATION for attics that is also a waterproof and non-breathable vapor barrier. (I can always poke holes in it to make it breathable like the perforated "breathable" rolls of it. I have a lot of craft projects planned which incorporate the reflective sheeting to make a curved, fire reflective WALL 4 foot high by 16 foot, out of tarps that reflect the heat of a campfire into a tarp shelter or tent. And make a fanny warmer reflective sitting pad, a mylar and insulation lined 9 X 12 foot tarp to make a shelter in front of the mylar wall, and lots of other things that with mylar, would be more useful in a camp. I have ALREADY discovered that SAVING BIG MYLAR POTATO CHIP BAGS come in mighty handy when recycled to keep things warm or cold! Also, a medium sized potato chip bag stuck in a Jacket pocket will keep hands a lot warmer.

My sister and I both have (she had) Raynaud's disease, probably from being borderline poor ( we got ONE pair of the cheapest knit gloves per year and too bad if you lost them) no tshirts, no slippers, no robe, one thin cotton "sweater", thin cotton "babushka" scarf, and not being dressed warmly enough as little children in Michigan winters, both of us having light cases of frostbite almost daily during the bitter winters on our hands, feet, face etc. We would finally warm up stark white or blueish feet, hands, ears, etc with painful, swollen, red flushing hands, feet ears, legs and noses, only to have it happen over and over and over. She stayed in Michigan, I left Michigan at 18, to never in my life again live in an area where it NORMALLY got cold enough to have snow and bitter winter temperatures. I spent the rest of my life in S. ALABAMA, S. TEXAS, S.CALIFORNIA, N. FLORIDA, ITALY, AND WESTERN WASHINGTON STATE, all in areas where normal winter temperatures are in the low to mid fourties and it rarely dipped into freezing or deposited snow that "stuck" with us for more than a day or so before melting.

As an adult, she bought the protective clothing she never had as a kid, almost as an obsession as well as just needing it to live in Michigan. I too, even though I never had it as bad after I moved away and became an adult, I bought and have an admittedly excessive supply of the warmest hats, gloves, boots, socks, long johns, coats and jackets because I still get light cases of Raynaud's symptoms, just from being out in moderately cold, high 30's low 40 degree temperatures, even without being exposed to the bitter cold temperatures.

It is supposed to be 81 here today with more rain. For the last week it rained everyday with cold and wind I had to fire up the furnace every morning because it was in the 40's, I could use some heat here.
