I wish. As just one example- American steel is crap these days. Ask any machinist.

Ok. I see your point. Compared to jynesium our goods are much better than the reverse engineered poorly made crapola that gets sent back to us made with our own scrap metal they're loading by the ship to take to jyna, 24/7.

Working around the clock would defiantly solve the time problem. The cost problem could possibly get worse. People expect shift differential pay for working evening and overnight hours, as well as working on the weekend. So labor costs should go up, and that added cost will be passed onto consumers.

Only if you have enough trained, qualified personnel to fully staff your 3rd shift without stealing people from 1st and 2nd shift. Then you're going to need the truckers and railroads to have enough trained, qualified personnel and equipment to operate a 3rd shift without stealing people from 1st and 2nd shift.

And finally the final step, the warehouses and distribution centers those trains and trucks are going to deliver to must have trained, qualified personnel at work during the hours those 3rd shift trucks and trains will be arriving or else the ports and trucks/trains working 3rd shift is a waste.

When have the democarps ever let reality get in the way of government mandated plan?

I didn't see nor hear his speech, but I am quite alright with all the china shit just sitting out there in the ocean. Let it rot at sea.

TPTB can pick or choose winners and losers and deny the losers entry to load/unload.

Can you say planned shortages.

Who would have thought they could plan so well on so many fronts?
Yup. Costco and Walmart now have their own ships. (Yes Costco, not confused with Cosco.) I bet they'll be able to get their ships unloaded.

Heard, probably here, that a bunch of coffee went bad recently. I guess the beans sit in burlap bags on the boats, then it's put in the nitrogen-packs or whatever here in high tech US, so it can definitely spoil out on the boats.

It's stunning how little effort we've been making to replace Chinese manufacturing here. If this were before the 1980's, factories would be springing up to make whatever we weren't importing. Now ... we just wait for things to decay. Can't get things done anymore. Can't hire people. Have to work if you're "essential" until they fire you. Can't work if you're not "essential". Can't work from home though because "we're all going back to work". The people you hire will have lots of political expectations beyond getting work done and getting paid. Have to fire people because of Covid vax issues.
