CHAT Be kind to everyone…you never know what they’re going thru

North to the Future
I regularly work out at a gym about 40 min south of me (on a good day…today was pretty awful and icy). Beautiful Eagle River..a bedroom community for the Anchorage area.

Some years ago, real tragedy struck when a recently-retired top cop for the Alaska State Troopers was gunned down by his former mistress, who also shot his wife (with whom he’d recently repaired his relationship). It was big news here and even on national news. I even got personally involved because of the huge delay - almost 50 minutes of her bleeding out from multiple wounds- just in locating her address during her 911 call, nearly costing her life. The phone co for whom I worked made real improvements with the city’s 911 dispatch because of this horrid incident.

Fast forward 19 years. I chat with this lovely lady most every Monday and Friday. She spends hours walking in the pool and often comments on my 4-hour workouts. Today I learned she is Patti Godfrey, wife of the trooper and the very person who caused Anchorage to beef up 911. She is a lovely Christian who survived horrendous wounds…and we both remarked how no one knows what someone may be going through (both of us being nearly killed at one point)…I’ve made a friend for life and kind of wanted to remind you all of how often we pass by good people with truly hard pasts, and to be kind. I know most everyone on here has soft hearts. Kind of wanted to remind you that sometimes we have it better than we realize! <3

Here is the ABC report of her story if you’re interested. Wife Shot by Mistress Waits 48 Minutes for Ambulance After 911 Call

…the drive home was a little brighter…

I make a lot of resin jewelry. It only takes me a couple of hours to make ten of them. Pendents and chunky ones for the table. I keep a few in my car. I give them away to perfect strangers - usually cashier's at the stores. They love them and always accept them. It makes their day. Sometimes I put a few on the bathroom sink at Aldies with paper saying "free". I like brightening up someone's day. No one has ever refused them.

I raised my children with what you said: "be kind to everyone ...you never know what they are going through". So true. Please never judge. As a social worker, I have seen and heard it all, as a mother of an addict I have also seen and heard it. Until you have walked in someone else's shoes do not judge. Life is truly hard for so many people with so many terribly disturbing circumstances. People do learn to survive by WHATEVER it takes. There are those that have NONE. There are those that have no support, no family, no solid ground, and many with nothing. Please be kind, to all.
