USA Artemis II - 10-day crewed mission

Audio from Apollo that most will probably never hear is a bit where the astronauts (I don't know which mission) were chasing a runaway turd around the capsule. I didn't hear it myself (second-hand story) but I'm guessing the language used wasn't the image NASA wanted the public to see. When you use plastic bags for your wastes, your aim has to be good!

Astronaut Victor Glover delivers beautiful Easter message from space, praises God’s creation.

“When I read the Bible and I look at all of the amazing things that were done for us…”

“You're on a spaceship called Earth that was created to give us a place to live in the universe, in the cosmos.”

“In all of this emptiness, this is a whole bunch of nothing, this thing we call the universe, you have this oasis, this beautiful place that we get to exist together…”

SPACE — In accordance with Canadian law, the crew of NASA's Artemis II mission successfully euthanized Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen after discovering he'd suffered a light bruise during takeoff.
Artemis II is NASA's first mission to the moon since 1972. A truly historical launch for everyone involved — except for Hansen, who is now deceased.

"No one should have to live with this type of injury," said Canadian PM Mark Carney. "When I heard about the bumpy launch, I contacted NASA immediately to make sure they put Col. Hansen out of his misery right away."
According to reports, Hansen's colleagues initially resisted the order to kill him, citing the lack of proper equipment on board the shuttle. But, with assistance from ground control, the crew successfully re-engineered hardware from the life support systems to create the necessary equipment to administer a deadly toxin into Hansen's bloodstream.

In his final communication to Earth, Hansen reportedly said, "Please, it's just a bruise. I want to live." A poignant message which experts attributed to space madness.

At publishing time, the remaining members of the Artemis II crew announced plans to honor their fallen Canadian crewmate by using extra maple syrup with their pancake breakfast tomorrow morning.

Remember the shit storm over the Apollo 8 Genesis reading? It may have been before my time, but I remember hearing about the backlash.

Victor Glover was apparently asked what he thought about making black history. He responded with (more-or-less), "It's not about black history, it's about human history." I would have preferred "American history," but you can't have everything.

If these numbers are accurate (and recent), then the Orion capsule is now less than two hours from the Moon. I don't know when (or even if, but probably) they'll lose radio contact, and I don't know how long the loop around the Farside is going to take. But I'm thinking that since it's lunar night on Farside that's going to be about the darkest dark they've ever seen in their lives (AFAIK there is nothing except stars to provide light to Farside right now).

speed 3,879 mph
222,505 miles from Earth
6,727 miles from the Moon

Are you sure about that?
Watching the live feed on YT, and all these commenters are posting flags from their countries, like they had anything to do with this.

I remember Aldrin's autobiography, and he wrote about the world doing the same thing back then after Apollo 11, saying "We did it"!

He was like "who's WE?"

Same here man, same here. SMDH

CHILLS: Artemis II Crew Member @AstroVicGlover Professes the Gospel and Shares Teachings of Jesus From The Moon:

Just as the Orion Crew traverses one of the most haunting portions of the mission— expected to lose communication signal with Earth 252,724 miles away traveling BEHIND the moon— Astronaut Glover pauses to send a chilling Easter message to Earth:

Listen:

"As we get close to the nearest point to the moon and farthest point from earth, as we continue to unlock the mysteries of the cosmos, I would like to remind you of one of the most important mysteries there on Earth: and that is love.

Christ said, in response to 'what was the greatest command?' It was to love God with all that you are.

And he also, being a great teacher, said it’s equal to it and that is to love your neighbor as yourself.

And so as we prepare to go out of radio communication, we still are feeling your love from Earth. And to all of you down there on Earth, and around Earth, we love you. From the moon.

We will see you on the other side."

Moon memorial: Artemis 2 astronauts name lunar 'bright spot' after mission commander's late wife

News
By Josh Dinner published 3 hours ago

"Integrity and Carroll Crater, loud and clear."

HOUSTON, Tex. — Today (April 6), as NASA's Artemis 2 astronauts had their names etched into history books for becoming the farthest-ever humans from Earth, they took a moment to recognize the milestone by remembering someone no longer with us.
The previous distance record was held by Apollo 13, which traveled 248,655 miles (400,171 kilometers) from Earth at the farthest point of its mission. The Artemis 2 astronauts just surpassed that, marking the occasion with a teary-eyed dedication.
"A number of years ago, we started this journey in our close-knit astronaut family and we lost a loved one," Artemis 2 mission specialist Jeremy Hansen said to mission control. "Her name was Carroll: the spouse of Reid, the mother of Katie and Ellie."

Well, one thing about this mission is that these may be the only humans left in existence once things kick off.

Boy, now THAT could be a great movie plot...4 astronauts were to circle the moon and come back to earth just as they left it. They saw the mushroom clouds from orbit. All communication is lost. They are on their own now.

Dead for now. Humans will enliven it.

Everyone is being played… just like the stuffed toy.

It is likely the Artemis mission is a distraction from the catastrophe in Iran.
Maybe we could convince them that Trump is not really president. That his presidency is just an illusion created to fool them. Even the war in Iran is all just made up.

AFAIK they're coming straight into the atmosphere. No orbits around Earth and no skipping off the atmosphere to shed speed. I don't know how much leeway they have to pick a splashdown site, but they'd have to start maneuvering quite a ways out to change the splashdown site in any large way.

Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen just told President Trump his leadership in space exploration is truly extraordinary.

Trump replied that he spoke to Wayne Gretzky — and The Great One is very proud of him.

HANSEN: “While I have the microphone, sir, I just want to thank you on behalf of Canada.”

“The space leadership you spoke of from America is truly is extraordinary.”

“I’ve said this many times before, a nation that leads like that and creates and sets big goals for humanity, that brings other countries along with it is truly incredible.”

“And I know that’s a very intentional, not a necessary decision, intentional decision to lead by example and to allow other countries like Canada to share our gifts and help you achieve these mutually beneficial goals, like establishing a presence on the moon and eventually going to Mars.”

“And Canadians are so proud to be a part of this program.”

TRUMP: “Well, I have to say, I spoke to a very special person, Wayne Gretzky, who I think, you know, The Great One, and I spoke to your prime minister and many other friends I have in Canada.”

“They are so proud of you.”

“And you have a lot of courage. I’m not sure if they’d want to do that. I’m not even sure if The Great One would want to do that, to be honest with you.”

Already a movie except it on the space station. I.S.S. is just one of a couple.

auxman, someone edited that video in your post #232. If Earth is in the background, Farside would be black and not a plain white circle. If they were taking the picture of the almost full Moon, Earth would be behind them. This is what Farside looked like when they were as far away from Earth as they were ever going to get. There's a lit crescent because the Moon wasn't in full phase by the time they got there, so that sliver of black we see on the Moon right now from Earth is sunlit on Farside's opposite edge (the Sun is to the right).

As a young adult at the moon landings, today's NASA is a Joke, woke mess. I have little to no faith that these systems are properly tested.

Here's hoping and praying that these astronauts have a safe journey in this untested system and return whole and healthy.
Don’t forget to thank the Muslims for their contributions. Obama would be pleased.

Sorry, but I've got a really bad feeling about this. Way too much DEI in the crew mix and NASA. No room for that crap.
Give me the old mission control with a bunch of white guys with flat top haircuts. Most of them smoking and all of them able to perform complex calculations using only a pencil and a slide rule. Anyone else remember the old slip sticks?
Nobody even knew about political correctness, but they sure knew their jobs and the mission.
Were there a few black woman working the numbers? They deserve some thanks.
