Trouble is, nobody really knows what the market numbers mean. We don't know the value of the dollars are. With all this money printing we're doing, I'm very concerned that we're printing our way into hyper-inflation. That's where the "money" has no value at all. Nothing at all is backing it.
Smart remarks aside, this is wildly serious. Look at the Zimbabwe 100-million dollar notes. Not worth the paper they were printed on. Same with the Venezuelan Bolivar. The inflation hit 10-million percent. I don't even know what that means!
Problem is, if the USD goes into that dark night, the world will be pulled into the financial black hole that's formed. Right or wrong, the dollar is the reserve currency. Nobody else could do it. No one trusts the Chinese and their Yuan. They've been cooking the books for thousands of years. They default to dishonesty as a cultural norm, it seems. Germany? Russia? France? England? They're all basket cases right now just waiting for a slight gust of wind to put them in the abyss.
Yeah, keep on printing those dollars, suckers. Then we'll all get to know what it was like in the Weimar republic. That's something I was hoping to avoid.
So the DOW is up 408 at 23,844. So what? I remember when the DOW closed at just over 1000 for the first time in 1972.
Is the market that much more valuable or is the dollar worth that much less? Remember, we still manufactured almost everything back then and that was a real wealth added model. Now, we just trade paper.
Stuff is what's important. Shovels, paid off houses, toasters, ovens, weapons, and all the things it takes to live an independent life are important. A two dollar shovel back in 1972 dug the same hole as a $32 shovel will dig today. Thing is, the quality of toady's shovel isn't as good unless you really shell out some money. The shovel I bought in 1972 is still working. It was made by TrueTemper right here in Ohio. I remember the date because we had bought our first place and I needed a shovel and other implements.
Stay safe, get out of debt and find a good hidey hole. Oh, stay away from crowds.
