…… Anybody know anything about Air Purifiers built into face masks?

Any of you ever hear of masks that have Air Purifiers built into them?

I am told that runners who are forced to mask up like them.

Please no comments about how you don't wear masks.

I have a wife with Stage 4 endometrial cancer, who is suffering really bad from chemo, and whose life I am doing everything I can to protect.

Right now, anytime I go out of the house, I wear: an N-95 mask with an exhale valve to protect me, which is then covered over by a neck gaiter (works like a cloth mask, that is - I wear it to protect you from anything I might be carrying), and then I put a face shield over all of that.

I also wear TWO pairs of gloves (disposable, well fitting nitrile gloves, which I cover with a largish pair of rubber dishwashing gloves - this allows me to rapidly change dishwashing gloves several times while I am out without exposing my hands to air outside my home),

A shower cap to protect my hair;

A disposable rain poncho to protect my clothing, and

Disposable shoe coverings.

A local doctor who I know saw me in that strange getup at Kroger this morning when I went in to get an emergency prescription for my wife.

He suggested that I might want to get a mask that has an air purifier built into it, and thinks he can actually get one for me. (They are not being sold to "civilians" right now, just front line health care workers.)

I am going to get one, because I will do anything that might help my wife.

But I have never heard of such masks.

Are any of you familiar with these masks?

Do you think they would be better than the extensive get-up I wear right now?

Yep. Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR)...

...all of which is useless unless you are stripping and going through a decontamination shower before entering your home. Your clothing is going to hold more contaminants than you breathe...

I know they make a powered respirator it has a hose going to a face piece and a powered unit with filters normally worn on a belt 1594577523110.png

May God Bless and Keep you and your wife, Barry. You are going above and beyond for her.

My daughter in law makes and sells these masks and also the Hepa filters which can be bought separately...... and washed daily.

Is this what you need??

Laurane,

Actually, no, that is not the kind of mask I am inquiring about.

The kind of mask I am inquiring about is a battery powered mask that actually has a small air purifier and two small fans built into it.

I never knew they existed until a local doctor saw me dressed so oddly, getting meds for my wife this morning. When he found out why I had so much makeshift PPE on just to go to the local drug store, he offered to do his best to procure a mask with an air purifier built into it, if he could. They are hard to find and even harder to be able to purchase right now.

Saved, to glorify God.
Now that I think of it,
IT WOULD NOT BE TOO HARD TO MAKE A MASK THAT EVEN THOSE WHO CANNOT WEAR MASKS COULD WEAR!!

It would NOT "filter" or impede the air AT ALL.
It would just simply KILL ALL THE GERMS THAT PASSED THROUGH the "mask".

With the advent of small electronics, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO is put a small UV-C LIGHT to shine on the air going in or out and it would protect both the wearer and the people around him!!

If I was not 76 and unable to stand or walk I would make it myself as a prototype and PREPARE TO BECOME A MILLIONAIRE as it could be made for under $40 easily! It would sell worldwide like hotcakes.

SOMEBODY GO DO THAT! You can NOW BUY tiny AAA powered UV-C lights the size of half a pack of cigarettes, so incorporate it into a mask. (Just do not shine the light on the skin, point it outward, and the beam should not readily be visible to others)

For that level of contaminant rejection, it has to be powered.

Lung power just ain't enough to overcome the restriction of such a filter media.
