CHAT Alone for Thanksgiving?

bev

Has No Life - Lives on TB
I am not - DH and I will have a mostly traditional meal with just the two of us. But I wanted to say something to those who, for whatever reason, may be alone today.

Spending any holiday alone can be very depressing. Try to do something during the day that will get you around other people - take yourself out for dinner, take a walk where others usually walk, Skype or FaceTime with family or friends. Go shopping, if that’s your thing, work on a hobby or other project. But don’t just sit home doing nothing.

*If you are struggling with an addiction, please, please, please don’t use the holiday as an excuse to have “just one.” It never ends with just one.

I'm alone, but it's no big deal. I'm in the process of grilling a steak and remodeling the basement. I could've gone somewhere, but I wanted to put my limited time and energy into working on my house. I've got several indoor projects I'd like to finish before Christmas.

Not everyone who is spending today alone is a mess. That said, prayers for those who need peace.

Alone as far as humans go, but have two dogs and two cats as well as a half dozen chickens who keep peeking in at the front door hoping for treats.
Turkey is deboned, gravy put up and bones in the Instapot making soup.
Sugarfree praline pecans in the freezer, doomer porn on the TV.
It's been a good day so far.
Life is what you make it, no matter your circumstances.
I can guarantee there is someone, somewhere in the world who would trade places with you in a heartbeat.

I spent a few hours with family in town, but it's just me and the puppies.
My wife is in TX with family, so,....... I removed an entire plastered ceiling in a
basement storage room and then painted everything (ceiling, joist) white. I'm bet she doesn't
even catch it... I needed to do some electrical work and the ceiling was in the way.
I'll then place everything back the way it was, except the plastered ceiling is now gone..............

No one is out today; it’s raining. No stores are open. No restaurants except Chinese are open, and when they raised prices from an average of $10.95 to $15.95, I swore off.

I’m making my step-dad’s Italian red sauce. Going to have spaghetti later. I have the fixings for a stuffed Cornish hen, scratch stuffing and mashed potatoes,, but not the desire to prep everything. I’d have bought green beans, but they’re $4/lb!! I’m not paying that.

Ghost chose to spend his Turkey Day at the restaraunt with his buddies and bring back plates for Lali and I. I chose to stay home with Lali and deep clean. House Disses will see my efforts and hopefully soon, house and yard will meet with Their approval.

I am happy by myself, but my Ancestors and the Pack are still close, as is the Creator. Alone is an Illusion that becomes larger the more you focus on it. Put your Focus and your Intent elsewhere.

There is always something to do. It was cloudy and drippy all day. I determined to do laundry anyway and it faired off and got 20 degrees warmer. A beautiful day and lots to give Thanks for.

The only upside, here locally in central Iowa, to the $15.95 price on turkey day is also includes seafood options that they only offer on New Years, like snow crab legs, lobster tails, shell fish of all types, etc. Oh and all you can eat prime rib.

Green beans were $1.95 a pound here and looked nasty, no way I was going to pay that price.

This year is very, well ...wierd for me.

Not alone as my 2 sons are home but this is our 1st major Holiday without my wife after her passing last December.

Yesterday was my youngest sons 21st B-Day, we took him to a Chinese Buffet which he and my other son love.

Neither of them are big on Turkey or the sides, I love it but not going to cook just for me.

Wawa was open and we got subs, Turkey gobbler for me.

Just very "lonely" but not alone. Hard to describe. Just very melancholy.

My day was quiet except for a phone call from my beloved niece and several text messages from long distance family members and friends. I cooked a small meal for myself that had the semblance of a turkey dinner. It was a baked sweet potato, some left over rotisserie chicken and green beans. It was pretty good. I don't cook much any more, so actually it was a nice treat. I had got a store bought pumpkin pie a few days ago. Baked it as well, but it left much to be desired. I most likely will toss it out because the taste of it wasn't worth the calories.

It was cold and rainy so there was no impetus to go out. I spent the better part of the day reading TB and watching youtube videos that I follow. I sat quietly a lot and thought about things and questioned things with no answers forth coming. I'm grateful for the peace and quiet. So much of my life has been chaotic and stressful. So being alone and at peace is a blessing. I've lived a full life and it's ok that what's left of it is spent alone sometimes.

It is just me and DH. I cooked a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, the feeding of the 5000 as DH calls it....WHY???? I guess I just love the whole feast of Thanksgiving and we will have left overs for months. I come from a large family so lots of food is a must. Smoked the turkey even though the wind was howling, DH found a sheltered spot and it worked out well. Had a nice talk with our dear son and his wife. They are in Ghana, Africa but are moving to North Macedonia in January for their new Peace Corp post.

My family gets together in California but my DH can't travel that far and I can't leave him alone. I miss them all very much but I am OK with it being just us. A quiet day, I'm tired and hopefully DH can find a good movie that is not a western or army movie. I vote for a Hallmark movie but we shall see. Have to let the two border collie puppers in for "family time" in a little bit too. The first 15 minute is a madhouse but then they settle in for cuddles :-) Love all of you and so glad we are here together. (HUGGGGGG)

No Chinese buffets in Austin AT ALL since covid in 2020. Just order from menu prease….

The good one around here shut down altogether. My favorite breakfast buffet died in August 2020. No casino in the state can put out crab legs any more. There may be an exception in Detroit, but I'm not driving three hours to THAT urban death maze. Not even for snow crab.

Nearest Asian style buffet is in Des monies, 45 minutes away, making that a once or twice a year treat.

I'm in the same boat. Had all the fixns but ate to much for lunch. No dinner for me, yet, but the night is still young. Probally will save the dinner for Saturday when I turn 62.

I do have cats though for company.

I have a brother in Mexico who visits an open air restaurant where they cook a traditional turkey dinner for the expats and he says it's just like mom used to make.

My other brother is in NC with his family. They either deep fry a turkey or bought a BBQ'd one from the local fire dept that sells them every year.

Either way, no big deal for me.

I had no idea Red Baron other than you catching covid sometime back. I hate that for you.
Actually, it was a major exacerbation of my COPD that dictated I couldn't live at home alone anymore and that put me in here.

Then for added fun and excitement, I had a stent implanted to correct an abdominal aortic aneurysm.

That procedure went very well.

I am as comfortable as anyone can be with my breathing issues.

Alone but not alone. Two 9 yr old cats that I adopted last year are with me. We decided to go out to Quartzsite, Az to just hang out. Camp Pendleton was getting old. Like looking at the desert and all the quiet time. Four days or so is enough. RV is running good so may stay some place else a couple more days. I know all my TB friends are with me and some RV youtubers as well. Loveing it.

I been watching plane emergency movies, may switch to polar ice storm movies.

Oh, for Pete's sake woman; stop with the half-measures! Live a little. Go ahead and watch a movie featuring a plane emergency where it's crashing into a polar ice storm ... and throw in some attacking polar bears for good measure!

Jeeze. Ya gotta teach these amateur doomers everything!

Oh, and just for good measure never forget that every Thanksgiving is a living horror movie for millions of turkeys... And cranberrries! Don't forget the billions of innocent cranberries being cooked alive and pureed.

There! That's a double dose of Thanksgiving emergency horror for you.

Both my DH and I are kinda sick, so a quiet day it was. I smashed my big toe a few days ago and am still hobbling about. He caught a cold. We watched movies, cooked a scaled down meal and ate outside in a rare sunshiny moment.

I can be so out of touch at times. I never really contemplated the fate of so many poor cranberries!

Have been watching WW2 movies all day while working on a building inspection project for a client. Deadlines interfere with life at times.

The DW and I had soft tacos with scrambled eggs and sausage for breakfast.

Dinner was soup for both of us. Spent time with the DW. The DS and family live in the Dallas Burbs which was to far to drive in the cold and rain.

God bless all.
