Almost had to get a swimming pool!!!

:eleph: Hi All,
I'm sure a lot of you will think I'm crazy, but I do not want a pool. A guy we work with told my husband he wanted to get rid of his. Said we could have it FREE because he just wanted it out of his yard. I fought tooth and nail not to get it. We have very little yard left after planting gardens and putting up our grandaughter's swing set and sand box and our fire ring. I would have had to look out my kitchen door and instead of seeing my rock garden and berry bushes and nature, I would have been looking at a big, ugly pool! It's bad enough having the swing set plopped in the middle of it. The back yard has always been my refuge because there is woods and birds and deer, where the front yard is TOWN and cars and people. And I would have been the one fighting off the neighborhood kids and just know I would have gotten hung with being the one to take care of it. Plus the cost of sand to level it and the water to fill it. We're both laid off right now.
Any way I reluctantly agreed to go look at the pool yesterday. My husband really wanted the thing, so I went with him. Well what a surprise he got!!!! The pool was huge, like 28 feet. Almost twice as big as the yard we have left. Our yard isn't flat, it's in two levels, so the space that is left is only about 15 feet deep. And it all of a sudden went from being free to the guy wanting at least $600. Plus, he said it needed a new liner!!!! I felt bad for hubby, but was so relieved that I didn't have to be the bad guy by saying no. Thank God some things just work out on their own!
The only good thing I could come up with as far as having it was, if TSHTF we would have had a lot of water to use. The chances of that happening didn't out weigh the fact that I would be looking at "UGLY" for years!! If we had a bigger yard, I wouldn't have had as much of a problem with it, but the way it would have been we wouldn't even have had room to put a fence around it. Way to much responsibility with all the kids we have in the neighborhood right now. Too many reasons not to get it, versus reasons to get it. I still feel like a meanie, even though Hubby knows it wouldn't have worked. Guess I'll buy him a carton of ice cream today and try to make him feel better!

Don't blame you a bit for not wanting it. Thank goodness everything worked out as well as it did!

Dinghy, I flat out laughed at your efforts NOT to get a pool!!!!

What a fun post!

I know what it's like when DH just has to have something that is totally off the wall, so I am VERY glad for you that it didn't work out!

Thank you both for being on my side!!!! I still feel like a meanie though. And I forgot to go to the store and get his ice cream. Yikes!!!!! We went to the hardware store to get wire fencing for around the garden, then went out to eat to use a gift certificate that our daughter gave us for Christmas, so the ice cream totally slipped my mind. What a hick, I get in a hardware store and just go into dream land!!! Sometimes I'm as bad as a man in there.

Dinghy, I am WORSE than my husband in a hardware store.

I am a nut about keeping my tools clean, oiled and rust-free. He isn't so careful, so I have my separate tools that I hide from him!

But do remember the ice cream next time!

Tadpole, That is so funny, I have my own tool box and keep all my stuff separate too!!!! Hubby's stuff is all over the place and it drives me nuts. I put my things away as soon as I'm done with them so I know where they are the next time. I have my tool box hid under the computer desk so nobody finds it. I even have my own paint brushes and rollers and sand paper that I keep in the "Bunker" so nobody gets them. They'd never think to look in there!!! I'm still finding tools in the yard that the kids took out when they were little. Dug up a trowel the other day.
Hopefully I'll be able to get the ice cream tomorrow. I'm going to a craft show with my daughter and don't know what time I'll get back. I don't know why I'm going because I probably won't buy anything. I always look at the stuff and think "I could make that a lot cheaper!", only I never have the time to do it! I'd rather go to Lowe's any way!!!!

Dinghy-

I completely understand! We just spent $1350.00 this past spring to fill in our inground pool- that's a lot of money for dirt and sand! It took 95 cubic yards, and lots of equipment! I could have thought of a zillion other ways to spend that money, but sure am glad we don't have that pool anymore. So, yes, I do understand! :)
