I don’t recall much about it, but there was something about many agencies receiving massive amounts of weapons, agencies that really had no perceived need to be heavily armed. Whatever became of that?

Hopefully it was stored in a Beirut warehouse...
That could be done and undo some of the restrictions so it's easier people get it, boy would the gun grabber crap themselves over that.

Also, even though most of us here and other like minded people, are prepping and arming up...there’s another possibility...
Somewhere, there’s rich people, well connected, setting up a supply line for the time when the demand outstrips the supply for guns and ammo.
Grey market, Black market, gun runners, basement manufacturers, foreign powers and people friendly to a stable USA...
All of them will likely help those who want to return this country back to a lawful, non intervention, Jeffersonian republic.
Sure, many hate us in this world, but the last thing a smart country wants is 2 or more factions in the FUSA fighting...
Why not? As the FUSA goes, so they go too. Financially they all benefit from a healthy US.
Also, which of them wants to see warlords with nukes firing them off at each other?

The rest will long for the good old days when the US helped them, traded with them, and they were all richer for it.

Uh, no...that thought hadn’t occurred to me.
Simply asserting that the supply/demand law will always play out.
Just look at the liberal, gun free he’ll holes that are Chicago, NY , etc. They’ve outlawed guns (reduced supply) and the consequent was increased violence....so then, the law of S&D kicked in and the demand drove the market.
Look at the war on drugs! All that did was make certain entrepreneurs very rich! Venture capitalists!
Where there’s a demand, the supply is certain to follow.

Government employees who are authorized to use firearms are also required to do enough target shooting to make sure they can hit the criminal and not the hostage. Most of the ammo is used for target shooting.

I knew of someone in Vietnam who supposedly sent a Jeep home one crated piece at the time, by making his own stencil with his parent's address. If it was a war story it was a good one, these days a kid with puter skills could probably do it too

Yeah, but most of the ammo the gov't purchased was hollow point. Which is more expensive and not the way most people/agencies train. They usually train with basic FMJ (full metal jacket) rounds. So why all the hollow point?? That was the glaring question that nobody every adequately answered at the time.
Edited to add - And millions upon millions of rounds didn't go to agencies that would make sense, like the FBI. It went to places like the Social Security Administration, the Veterans Administration, and Housing and Urban Development dept.

When you buy in bulk, especially with other peoples money, take into consideration that you may be shooting on steel targets, burdened with the belief (real & imagined) that you need to shoot something with identical characteristics to the duty round, and value only stocking only one type of ammunition for all purposes, perspective changes.

I have a pasture range. My son had some friends up and one worked for a "federal agency". She was shooting hollow points and when asked said that is what they give us to practice with. She was shooting a .40 and later when sorting the brass there were some 10MM cases as well. No one else was shooting a high power pistol but her. She was also VERY buff, I would not have wanted her mad at me.
