CHAT Acts of Kindness

Freeholder

This too shall pass.
Here and there we are seeing reports of the good things that are still happening, and I thought it would be nice to have a thread just for those. If you know of someone who has gone out of their way to help others during this time, please share! (I’ve always thought that a lot of the apocalyptic fiction was too gloomy.)

Here are a few acts of kindness that I know about.

One of my granddaughter’s has been babysitting a single so-worker’s children several hours a week, for free, so the mom can still work after the daycare closed.

Another granddaughter let co-workers have her hours at work, because she is still living at home and can survive without the job for a while (this was after discussing it with her mother and step-father).

Of course, there are all the people sewing cloth masks at home to be donated - a friend is doing that. I had planned to, but have been preoccupied with my daughter’s medical issues.

Another friend (local) who struggles to make ends meet informed me the other day that she had stocked up on some food items for us. I laughed and told her I have eggs for her, and some of my extra chicks will be for her if she’s still stuck at home when they start laying - she’s on the road all the time for work, so we’ll have to see if her work comes back.

And a neighbor from church has checked in on us.

Share your stories of people being kind and helping one another, please!

I give up.
We really haven't had much opportunity to help out, but I was reading the Rochester Reddit a couple of weeks ago, and a young lady who wasn't working asked all around for people she could do grocery shopping for or picking up their prescriptions, or even giving them a ride if they needed it. I'm sure there's many more out there. I know it.

Today at Hubby's store a woman finished paying for an older Gentleman who was taking things off the belt and trying to put them back.

Gentleman came up to Hubby afterwards and said "do people really do this?" and hubby explained that yes I'd does happen and has been happening more frequently than usual. Dude was blown away...

Ima hold my opinion on why the man was REALLY blown away because...well...certain gender/demographics don't usually do things like this. There, that should be clear as mud.

Thanks Kathleen for starting the thread.

We were telling the nurses at one of the clinics we go to to how things are coming into the hospital for us. They said "Oh they forgot about us". Later in the day we went back there and gave them a case of Gatorade. That's all we could procure at that point. They are one our radar now. Whenever we get something, we reserve a portion for them from now on.

Many people want to help but will be afraid to go to the clinics in the really rough hoods. Don't forget them though, their jobs are even tougher than the hospitals.

I had something like 250+ puzzles. Kept 3 for myself. Gave them all away from the back of the car. I would go downtown and sit on a bench and pass puzzles out, gave some to a friend and Grandson, gave most to a friend who owns a bookstore downtown. She would stick them in a pile outside her business door for taking. Neighbors got the kid ones for their kids.
THAT was fun!

My big canning supply order came in and it is a two hour drive each way to get it. By the time I arrived at the pick up location that could not hold it for me to pick it up on Saturday, another Master Food Preserver picked it up for me. She and I met up on a street corner and safely transferred it to my rig. I missed the text messages that came to my phone since I was driving to the coast and did not have cell coverage. Yes, people can be kind.
