Canning 80% hamburger

Neither here nor there.
Most of the hamburger in my freezer is the 80%.cab I still can it if precooked?

Yes, cook it and then drain it in a fine mesh strainer over another pan or bowl. We canned up about 30 pounds of hamburger drained all of it and it canned up just fine with no issues. Btw you should always pre-cook your burger if you don't want it to come out rubbery. You want it a few minutes past pink, not raw, not seared, for the right texture.

You may also want to change your thread title, it says hamburget, not hamburger. Changing it to Canning 80% Hamburger will get you more views.

I'll add something a bit off topic to this. Wqlmart is carrying 80% hamburger in the frozen meat section in 1 lb chubs. The price is almost a dollar a package less. For example last time I checked the frozen pack was $2.88. Food for thought for all. I did post it before in the big price thread on main but wanted to add it here.

This info s perfect and the timing is as well! Right before the Corona hit we had a bull butchered. He weighed a lot more than we thought! (669 lbs of ground beef) 2 freezers full. Been buying extra canning lids for just in case!:D

Now that’s a lot of bull! Wow, 669 lbs of ground meat! We had just had a steer butchered last fall and then one of our heifers hurt a leg so we had her butchered too. Our family’s good on beef but I can’t even imagine that much ground beef.

Sounds like our house. A bull is a lot of ground beef. Our butcher thoughtfully gave us some steaks and roasts out of him which after one, very chewy meal, all got canned up. The hamburger is all frozen and I so hope it will stay that way. I don’t have that many jars!
