Daytona beach just missed a semi hurricane and I was setting up 12 volt fans in case the power went out and came across 6 24 volt fans i bought years ago and was wondering if i could hookup a small lawn mower battery and a car battery and get 24 volts without harming batts or motors? what do you think?

That is called wiring in series and it does work. Except it will ruin your batteries as neither of them are designed for deep cycle depth of discharge and six fans aren't going to run very long on batteries of that size.

Just run the 24v fans at 1/2 speed on 12v and use the lawn mower to charge the bigger bat.

the fan's are 6" comair 1 amp/hr. fans, i have a deep cycle 12 volt batt 170 watt solar setup for an old 27 foot airstream trailer with a frige/freezer that works on ac dc, and propane to use in emergencies. Deep cycle weighs a ton and 50 feet is too long for dc to travel with the wire I had on hand so I was looking for a quick easy "middle of the night" setup. Thanks for the tip.
