Well, I was out of town all week for a family emergency and was all ready to look at the sales ad when I got home. Boy, nothing worth going out for in my opinion. Some weeks are like that. Still, I did come up with a list. I don't usually shop at the Super Wal Mart since we don't have one in our town, but I drove right past a new one on my way home from the airport. Stopped in and got my camp oven and some new dishes, and wrote down some prices while there.

SUPER WALMART-
20 qt. box powdered milk-8.87
28 oz can Idahoan instant potatoes-2.86
1 can beenie weenies-.78

WALGREENS-
Royal jello (in ad coupon)-5 for 1.00
mandarin oranges (in ad coupon), 3/1.00, buy 6 for 2.00
chef boy ar dee pasta-2/1.49, buy 4 for 2.98
12 oz roast beef chunks-1.50

TOTAL-19.99

Powdered milk is an important prep item and it is expensive, taking up almost half of the budget for the week. The instant potatoes are a good brand and make 32 1/2 cup servings. The jello is a nice comfort food and is also good to drink when hot. Mandarin oranges are a cheap canned fruit. The pasta is great for a quick meal. The roast beef is pretty good when mixed with a can of cream of mushroom soup and some spices (and some sour cream)--it makes an acceptable beef stroganoff, at least it did when I was in college and that was a cheap meal.

Hopefully you guys have some better sales this week.

Not many good sales here, that's for sure. I did notice Meijer had salmon 4 cans for 5.00. Peaches and nectarines .99 a lb.

Seems like most of the things that are "sale" now, are items that I remember as being too high priced to buy. ;) I bet there are a lot of working people with children who are hard pressed to buy a weeks groceries. It's good to be able to go and just get the sales. Don't know if this one is worth driving in for though. If some other reason calls me to town, I might pick up some more salmon and fresh fruit.

WIsh I had a Kroger's, those are some good prices. Albertson's used to put their peanut butter on sale for $1. I hope they do it again, as peanut butter is an important prep. Haven't seen peanuts that cheap in a loooooonnnnngggg time. And you can't miss on the candy. ;) Do you have to hide it or does it get rotated pretty quickly?

The only thing on sale around here this week is the chicken hindquarters for 39 cents per pound. I think you said that we couldn't do things for the freezer. However, at a price this low I think I will buy them anyway and dehydrate into chicken jerky. Am going to save the bones and skin to make soup or stock to eat now. Will use the whole $20 on the chicken. There is nothing else on sale.
