Hi. Posting this one a little early because I have to make an unexpected trip out of town tomorrow. Hope nobody minds.

Remember, you are trying to build a food supply for 2 people on $20 a week (over the course of a year). Last week I got rice, beans, pasta, tuna, chili, cornbread mix, oatmeal, applesauce, some cans of greens, mac & cheese, some oil, a can of milk and a box of salt.

WEEK 2-

PUBLIX-

2 4 packs of Bumblebee tuna-1/1-8 cans for 2.67
4 cans Progresso soup-4/5.00 & $1 off coupon for publix-4 cans for 4.00
2 betty crocker brownie mixes-1/1 and 2 40 cent coupons-2/1.69
2 64 oz Northland cranberry juice-1/1 and 2 75 cent coupons-2/2.49
2 packages of ramen noodles @.15=.30

WINN DIXIE-

2 boxes (8 ct) of poptarts-1/1-2/1.99
6 pack of Kraft mac and cheese-2.79
3 cans of carrots-1.20
3 cans of mixed veggies-1.20
4 cans of potatoes-1.60

TOTAL FOR WEEK 2-$19.93

Some notes--I normally wouldn't have 12 cans of tuna in the first two weeks (I don't like it), but these were good deals. Progresso soups are good as they are an easy meal for one person. More canned veggies and mac & cheese. The poptarts are one of those quick foods that are great for snacks or days when you can't cook. I got cranberry juice (not cocktail) because of the health benefits over other juices--great for bladder, kidney and urinary tract problems. And, of course, you have to have brownies, or life just isn't worth living. I have plans for at least one dessert item per week over the course of the year.

What can you come up with? (Don't forget to keep track of your suggestions. At the end of 3 months I will post what my one year plan is for 2 people and will see how far I've been able to go with this idea.)

I never was able to post last week's good deals, but I am trying to follow along with the premise.

I am trying to be more focused and I have chosen 7 family favorite dinners that are prep-friendly and I made out ingredient lists that would cover that dinner once a week for 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year (my ultimate goal).

With that in mind, here is my list for today:

Bi-Lo

(6) 1 lb. thin spaghetti *note - I try to buy thin spaghetti and angel hair for preps - doesn't take as long to cook * 6 x .40 $2.40

(4) 1 lb. elbow macaroni 4 x .40 $1.60

(2) Dixie 8 cup sugar packs (BIG1F) 2 x 1.20 - 1.20 in coupons $1.20
*note: I bought several more of these because I had
coupons. For jam-making this summer.

(4) Lg. deviled ham tins (B1G1F) 4 x .90 $3.60

(6) Chunky Soups 6 x 1.04 - $1.50 in coupons $4.74

Ingles

(5) Del Monte sliced peaches 5 x $1.00 - .55 coupon/5 $4.45

(3) Del Monte pineapple 3 x $1.00 - $1.00 coupon $2.00

Total: $19.99 *Note: I am working on a Del Monte $10 rebate as well, so some money back on these.

I did not include, but also purchased 2 large Dinty Moore stews at $1.00 each and
more Del Monte veggies at B1G1F plus rebate.

hey- this counts...

I was in Home depot today buying a lockset for a rental. I happened upon a worker putting out a "cull pile" of various lumber. I bought 38 nearly perfect 2x4s (some 8ft-some 10ft-some treated) for 51 cents each.

Cant beat that deal

Hey Garnetgirl, good list. I wish I could find the Del Monte pineapple because of the coupon. I'm working on the DelMonte rebate as well, and there was also one this week for Publix and 6 GM products for a $10 gift card--4 hamburger helpers and 2 brownie mixes with 1/1 sales and coupons made that a money making proposition.

I need to work on a menu plan as well. I have a lot of stuff put away, but really need to see how it would all work together for meals so I can get a better idea of how long it will really last.

Not too late to join the game, even if you do just one week. It's a mental exercise more than anything, so let's have some fun with it.

I'll be honest--I won't be tracking what I find on sale throughout this year.

My best buy for this week costs more than the $20----for $30 I got a bag of Backpacker's Pantry dehydrated foods to feed 2 people for three days (3 meals a day). I'd link you to the deal, but they are out of them and it is an overstock place. That was half the original price.

That said, my local Giant Eagle has these items available:

Progresso Soup 4/$5: 8 for $10
Irish Steel Cut Oats in metal can: $6.50
4 # sugar for $1.49--2 for $3

Total: $19.50 before tax
And you have to have a membership card to get these deals.

Nuthatch, can you give me some more info on those steel cut oats in a metal can? Brand name, size, etc. I haven't seen anything like that around here. I bought some steel cut oats at the health food store and put them up in glass jars, but this sounds interesting. Thanks.

ditto here too.

I realized also recently that my bags of rice and flour and corn meal won't last much longer unless I get me some liners and buckets to keep them in..although I won't have money until the first 'officially', am going to see if I can do some 'creative financing' with that..might have to hold a garage sale this weekend..heck, if nothing else, if I plan one, might help bring on the rain we so desperately need.. :p
