CRIME 2 am observation

The dogs got me up at 2 last night. They do most nights, and if we all stay quiet, the goings on can sometimes be interesting. Anyway, this wasn't the usual homeless guy or druggie thief walking down the street. Looked just like the Antifa videos. This guy was head to toe in all black, and even looked like he had a facemask (beard?). Fairly large fully loaded backpack, but it didn't look all that heavy. Youngish, early thirties max (probably several years younger), darker skin, rounded facial features but didn't look Black. Slender, and about 5'11." (Keep in mind, I didn't have my glasses on, did my best.) He walked to the corner of our street, looked around for a couple seconds, and walked back, with more purpose than your av. homeless person.

This is a small town, mostly Hispanic. Kumbaya doesn't fly well here.
Neighbors were alerted, and FWIW, local police (I don't trust them).

Same here I had one about 10 ft from my deck tore up my empty bird feeder
I used to paint houses. One guy lived way out in the sticks on the side of (what counts for) a mountain in MA. He would leave doughnuts on his pick-nick table (spell??) and the bears would sit down at the table just like people would to eat them.

Bizarre. I never saw the bears myself, he showed me photos. Seemed to me, like asking for trouble, esp. since his expensive house was mostly floor to ceiling windows to take in the view.

Bears can be troublesome.

Was in the hardware store this week and overheard a new arrival looking for someone to replace a gutter downspout and drain line on his cabin. Seems like a bear got after a chipmunk or squirrel etc that hid out in the plumbing.

I believe the Berkshires qualify as mountains and last I knew they were in Ma.

Or NY (Adirondaks) or Vermont/New Hampster (Greens and whites).

We have had pro search and rescue teams come from Cali ad Montana to the Adirondaks talking trash about 4K ft "peaks" until they get a look at what us Dakians are familiar with... SUDDENLY the discussion goes from "This'll be a walk n the Park." to;

"HOLY SHEE-IT!! That is ROUGH COUNTRY down there. Are we in the right place??!? That's DAMN tough country down there!!"

Green Mtns become the Berkshires when they get to Western Ma.

People always seem to forget that the Appalachians extend all the way up into Maine. And yes, they don't look all that intimidating on paper, but they get a whole lot more so in person. And that's in nice weather; trying to hike through during a Nor'Easter brings whole new levels of suck.

My CO folks go on about their 'fourteeners' and don't like it when I tell them their mountains will look like ours after a couple billion years of wear and tear.

2 AM is a great time for clarity, for commenting on this particular thread, and for taking a stroll through the house by the light of my tritium sights.

All is well.

In our neighborhood, that would be the car patrol. They test to see if car door are unlocked and rifle through the interior. Back pack would be to store what they found. Sometimes they have an electronic thing that can open some of the newer locks.

Our high tech wireless alarm system is called Bud, a black mouth cur. They breed them down here to hunt feral hogs. Simply the finest dog I have ever had, impeccable manners when the grand kids are dragging him thru the house or when we have 20 plus over at Thanksgiving.

He has bonded with my Wife, when she is relaxed around someone he is too. If she is uncertain or anxious or an unknown is around he is right there by her side.

A couple days ago, not too far from me, a lady posted that her backdoor camera caught someone looking in the windows with a flashlight at 2 am. She posted on nextdoor.com that this is the second time it's happened. Police aren't too interested, of course. She said she was going to put in motion lights. 'Tis the season for fun and games in the night.

I am now looking at a Ring doorbell video system.

I got Vivint back in June. Thought it was a good idea. At least the alarm going off will give me a few precious "heads-up," seconds to grab my little metal friend quicker and know what's coming my way.

When seconds count, the police are minutes away.

Lots of thugs have an inordinate fear of dogs, even small ones. You do not need the Hound of the Baskervilles to alert and raise a fuss. All you need is a little dog who loves you.

When we got home from church we were greeted by Addie, a little pug/Boston mix who belongs to a further away than next door neighbor. Addie looks like a slightly oversized French bulldog and is at least 50 pounds of dog in a 25 pound body - she has more personality than many people. And every time she escapes from home she seems to come and see us. :D That worries me because traffic on this road is deadly.

I called her owner's mom and dad to let them know Addie was loose again ... but still, y'all, get a gun if you don't have one, learn how and when to use it if you don't already know and most of all get a dog if you don't have one. It's for your own good.

I give up.
We don't have a dog or cat in this apt. But all 3 neighbors in this building do. One, "Barky," hates for anyone to come near his door, which is next to ours. We love "Barky." His owner says he's just grumpy. LOL.

Summer brings Mayflies (first) then Mosquitoes (second) and finally at the warmth of summer GREENHEADS - my particular adversary.

Its why Maker gave me a tail - and why its illegal to "dock" a structural tail in Cow Hampshire.

All three have been known to drive humans insane in the woods. They laugh at "Deep Woods OFF." Owner has a little bottle of Woodman's Fly Dope which he uses sparingly.

The stuff makes my eyes smart as he walks by.

Have a friend in the FBI, he got sent up there to look for those 2 guys that got out of that federal pen up there a few years ago.
If i remember correctly he was born in Alabama and spent he teens in Kentucky. Also was in the airforce and went through all that training.
Even he said that was a brutal search, admitting that they could probably walk over someone and not see them.
