Since last January I have been prepping like a mad woman, working every extra job I good get to make as much money as I could and checking TB2k CONSTANTLY. Now I don't know how to stop! I know tech stop will help break the addiction but I am going to hate the withdrawals! Candy and Baileys will help the mood but not the blood sugar.

Thanks for everyone on the covid, riots and M Law threads plus the GSM. You all have been a real family

You know... at some point, it really is good to try to step back, take inventory and then take a breather, or start again!

And I don't mean just physical inventory. Do a mental checkup... look at your relationships, your time allotments.

Both this place and prepping can be literally addictive. Prepping can be integrated into a healthy lifestyle, or it can become your lifestyle... or your life. Except for short term bursts in the face of specific threats, I don't think the latter is healthy.

Most people, if asked, would say something about prepping so they and their families can still have some enjoyment and not just "survive". So... if your basic preps are in order, what do you like to do for enjoyment? Live life now!

(If you have any question whether your preps are adequate for your goals, I can't recommend any resource higher than Making the Best of Basics, by James Talmage Stevens. It has had multiple editions, and the (much cheaper in used book sources online) earlier editions are excellent, if not quite as detailed. But the book has multiple charts that let you design a storage program that will provide adequate calories and nutrition for everyone in your family/team, taking into account age, sex, and even whether a woman is pregnant or lactating (a nursing mother essentially counts as 2 adults!)

I started hard prepping in the summer of 2019. After a week of no power I felt woefully unprepared. Yes, it is hard to stop and refocus.

God is good all the time

This year we went from a family of two then to 4 and since Christmas 3 more extended family has moved in. Yikes now feeding 7 and I am so glad for the extra push to prep deeper. We've always preached "rest is a weapon" so now will partake of that even more deeply.

Thank you for the tip regarding the book "Making the Best of Basics" by James Talmage Stevens. I always enjoy reading such books and will request a copy from my local library. I prefer to do this before purchasing it outright...my bookshelves are bursting at the seams presently. Besides, Jeff Bezos and Amazon are rich enough without my contributing to their already burgeoning coffers!

What problem? I am NOT an addict.I am only here about 13 hours a day. As long as i take meal breaks and sleep 8 hours a day i don't think there is a problem. Of course, i have been trying to cut down................on sleep.

Its a daily morning check for me at work and sometimes in the evening.............a few mins here and there from time to time during the day when I get a break in the action at work............

Just a source of information along with about 3 other sites and then off to any links this site or my other sources given me in the evening or weekends to read more about..

I log in in the morning and check out the new posts. During the day, I stay logged in but go to other sites and play my favorite online game and do some chores. Then I'm back to check out new posts several times in the course of the day. I guess that coming back repeatedly probably does make me an addict.

I hear you parsonswife.

I've stopped trying to prep for every possibility and just get some basics covered. I've realised there's very little I can control. I try and avoid those threads and news sources I know will piss me off royally. It is a lesson I learned from the Amish, to be careful of what I let into my life.

As far as stopping prepping I do take breaks and reevaluate. I try to make sure I know what I have and that nothing is going to waste. I'm trying not to keep stuff just to keep stuff. It's just stuff. If it doesn't serve a purpose or bring joy why keep it?

Please decide what constitutes "enough". You have food perps? Great! How many balanced or close to balanced meals dose that represent? How long will it keep your family fed? Is that "enough"? Same with other preps.

Preps are nice and they can change a crisis into a minor inconvenience. Having the skill, experience and knowledge of how to do the same with whatever bits and bobs are available may be just as important.

Please try to find the time you need to meditate or pray. Finding peace with God, the Devine or whatever you conceive that to be. This may help significantly.
