IT IS NICE TO GET OTHER PEOPLE TO PAY FOR YOUR SOLAR
BUT, IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A BATTERY BANK, IT IS NOT YOUR SOLAR

IF YOU SELL POWER TO THE POWER COMPANY,
AND THE POWER COMPANY RESELLS IT TO ANOTHER PERSON,
AT HALF THE PRICE THEY PAID YOU

WHO TAKES THE LOSS

WHO IS PAYING FOR "YOUR SOLAR"

BUT, WHO CARES

ITS FREE MONEY

THE ONLY WAY SOLAR IS CHEAPER THAN GRID POWER,

IS IF SOMEONE ELSE IS PAYING A LARGE PART OF THE BILL

CGTech, as was pointed out by tech, there are 'work arounds' that allow you to operate your grid-tied system even if the grid is down. Obviously the system must be totally isolated from the grid when functioning in this manner, but using a smaller battery backed system to 'pump' the larger system is viable and inverters are made by at least one manufacturer (Magnum Energy) to do just that.

in florida, if you take the free money,
you must sell all of your power the power company
and you may not have a battery bank,

if the grid is off
and the sun is out
you may not, can not, use the solar in your own house

I don't know who told you that but that is completely wrong. Three of my solar friends have large grid tied arrays with battery bank back up that saved their butts when Ian hit and the power was out for over a week. This is in Lee County and Charlotte county Florida.

They all got the tax rebates. My system is completely off grid and I got the tax rebate, too. I don't sell any power to the grid.

In our setup, the grid tied system, by design, will shut down when the main power is down. This is to protect the line workers from being electrocuted. the system would have to be modified, once i put batteries in, so it would not feed the grid in the case of a power outage.
