RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. - As a precaution, Riverside County health officials are monitoring two people who recently traveled to West Africa. Both cases are described as low-risk and neither person is showing any symptoms of Ebola.
Officials with the health department said that both individuals deny having contact with anyone who had the illness during their travels as well.
At this point, the health department is contacting the individuals twice a day and the monitoring period will take place for 21 days. The two are using a digital thermometer to take their temperature twice a day to report the information to the health department.
Both of the individuals are staying at their homes and have been cooperating with the health department, according to officials. No family members are being monitored.
Riverside County Public Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser said the actions taken by local health officials are a precaution and follow protocols recently announced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The department considers the individuals to be very low-risk for developing the disease, but is monitoring actively so that any symptoms, if they ever develop, are promptly detected.
