PLAY Anyone have plans for the 4th?

On The Level
Haven't done anything for Independence Day in recent years. Suppose this one won't be much different.
Guess I've not seen a lot of reason to celebrate it when I've known communism has been steadily rushing into every aspect of our nation.

In fact, this year, I didn't realize it was this weekend until the grocery cashier wished me a happy holiday this morning. Time flies, I guess.

I did break out my American flag hat this week, though.

Got a 90-minute swim in this afternoon and plenty of sun. Shoveled a good frozen pizza in my pie hole, afterward!
Cloudy and rain tomorrow. Sunday and Monday look to be nice and sunny.
Will probably get a long walk in. Maybe visit family in the country.

Wish I had some loud fireworks, we don't have enough of that in my neighborhood.

DEPLORABLE ME
Annual Taylor AZ Firing of the Anvil, rodeo, and fireworks, Saturday night. It used to also be a friendly community BBQ before the fireworks, but the area has grown too much, so now it's just some food vendors. :gaah:
But the rodeo is always great!

Since 1999
Some barn time in the early mornings all weekend.

Yellowstone marathon on Paramount all weekend.

Cooking a roast in the crock pot because I would "roast" if I were going to grill out.

passin' thru
I plan to unload 100 bales of hay.
If that doesn't do me in, I'll set up a half dozen IBC totes for water collection.
If I survive dragging those bad boys around, cleanin, n paintin em I may take a look at the volunteer trees and see which ones wanna be firewood.
If no one smarter than me forbids me to start choppin down trees my first time up with this chainsaw, (and assuming I can lift it), then I'll figgure out how to climb the remaining trees by the white barn with a 6/12 foot replacement plexiglass window/skylight doohickey in my back pocket.
Then, when I undoubtedly manage to fall 1/2 way thru the roof and get stuck, I'll wiggle round till I'm facin' east, and watch the show in the next hamlet o'er. Or the sun come up, whichever comes first when I come to.

Usually go hang at the river and eat too much and dance too long, but I ain't in the mood for crowds this year

Being allergic to hot dogs, bbq, stinky peeps, ‘rona and the pox, I’ll be staying away from that.
I’ll be in the streets making noise on my pseudo-hawg with pedals.

PS I hope there’s no fireworks here. It’s a tinderbox waiting a spark.

Be extra careful with the chainsaw, Jward. Make sure you're wearing ear protection, goggles, gloves, chaps, and work boots. If the saw is too heavy for you to have perfect control with it, get something lighter or do another project.

I've clear-cut a fair number of places in Upper Michigan with zero accidents when I was a late teen/early 20-something. Taking a few extra minutes to "dress for success" means you keep your limbs and avoid the ER!

Just me, myself and I. Since DH is gone and all the critters have died I at least won't have to worry about the animals getting upset from the fireworks. The dogs and the pony would really get upset.

We need rain badly. I will be watching close for fires in my field from the fireworks.

I was gonna smoke some ribs until I saw the price. WOW. I guess it will be hot dogs instead.

Have a safe holiday!

We have friends near by we all live on the same road and last year we did BBQ and this year they all asking me to do my Dutch Oven cooking again this year, so Publius is cooking for 7 to 9 people my pork ribs, my cowboy taters and a peach cobbler.
The ribs takes 3 1/2 to 4 hours to cook and rest only takes about an hour to do so timing is everything.

I normally mind my own business in such matters, but we're coming up on the 4th of July, and -- trust me -- it's an awful time to have to go to the ER. I would at least slip on some hiking boots if you don't have proper work boots. You only have two legs and need both of them!

A quick story: one of the younger guys, who wouldn't dress for success when cutting, was cutting up a maple for firewood, and he cut into a large nail, one that probably once held on a No Trespassing sign. The saw bounced and hit his leg and then his foot. Yes, he had on flip flops! There was blood everywhere. Fortunately, one of the other guys was a medic in the army and got the bleeding stopped. Then we had to take him to the ER because the ambulances were all busy elsewhere (this was near Traverse City, MI). He was eventually OK but that was an unnecessary accident and we all had to sit around at the ER for about 9 hours on 4th of July.

May I ask why? I can think of several reasons . . .

First off, it's my very dry sense of humor, but true.

I've been removing about 200 tree stumps. I dig holes around the stumps so that I can
pressure wash the dirt away from the stumps. I have to remove the dirt because dirt
will quickly dull the saw chain. I take two 14" saws with me, but 14" isn't enough to go thru
many of the stumps, so I use wedges and come in from the other side. This is my third year
working on this project, which started out at just over 100 trees, but quickly grew.

There's a lot more to this story but I'm sure you're not interested in a novel on this very exciting project.

Wow! Probably my lazy way wouldn't work for you

Drill holes in the stump.
Apply potassium permanganate.
Cover with a garbage bag.
Dig up what's left of the stump in nine months, if necessary.

Anyway, have an excellent 4th and I'll be thinking of you! (I might be power-washing my deck!)

Going to small state park with a lake for picnic and swim Saturday. Will watch fireworks Sunday night (only because dd loves them.) I'm going to clean out my deep freezer, vacuum seal some foods, and do some organizing Sunday/Monday.

Since we get up at 5:30 am Tuesday I'm hoping there won't be people putting off fireworks til midnight Monday night. I love the history and meaning of the 4th, but do not like the holiday.

We just went to Philadelphia today and the traffic leaving the city was like the End of the World was happening.
Our 6 month old Pup had 2 leg surgeries and we have to go twice a week to Philly. That is maddening enough.

We have for years always just had a quiet 4th.
Kids are gone and our animals get scared with fireworks so it's just watching TV usually or whatever choirs need to be done.

Kicked back in a nice hotel room, far away from the crazy stress our lives have been lately. Small town, middle of nowhere. Will watch fireworks from the window. Just had a big fried catfish dinner. Meeting our kids in a few min. Life is good today.
Good Idea!

I guess knock on wood here, but I'm very careful with chainsaws. (Hope that's not bad luck now)

I do like the smaller chainsaws because they are more forgiving.

You have an great fireworks weekend also!

I will be seeing The Top Gun movie tomorrow and grilling hot dogs for dinner with potato salad. Monday I have off so we will go to town for the parade, car show and music. We will have some bbq for lunch but will skip the fireworks at night.

We cleaned out our freezer Friday so I cooked some meat that was buried in the ice. Just the two of us this year but youngest is bringing youngest grandson down on the 14th so just a delayed celebration.

We had plans for three of our DS to come home for the weekend - but work and gas prices curtailed that plan. :shk: So DD and DSIL and three grandsons (who live with us) will be celebrating the entire weekend with us - Saturday - mom's fried chicken, Sunday - DSIL's making smoked brisket, and Monday - brats, hotdogs, and burgers on the grill. The younger contingency will probably go into town and watch fireworks on Monday night (if the rain doesn't come) and DH and I will stay home with the pups!
I might have to pull out the movie "Independence Day" - one of my favorites. :D
