So.......in construction I work with Latins. I find they will cut corners unless you supervise closely. A lot are good hard workers, and generally honest.
So we turn those good ones to our side.

There is some truth in this idea. Hope they are stocking food on their governments free money and willing to defend the nation against the criminal cabals...

ND, my wife is unable to run and jump and even pull a trigger safely. She is still a very valuable part of our defense. See, she was in a car wreck in '83 and came out this side as a quadriplegic. Been in a chair for 40 years come this fall. Pretty much full use of arms, but no grip strength in either hand. So really, even loading a magazine is going to look like a monkey romancing a greased football.

BUT.... her hearing is better than mine. She can watch a different direction. Her vision is more-acute than mine. She can take the load of remembering the details that need to be remembered so they can be done in downtime. Beats the hell out of the thought of being out here out of sight and out of mind of pretty much everyone (which is a situation I like, and worked to create) all by my lonesome.

Not that you were saying it, but there might be others reading that need to read this, but you (and anyone who's not still at their peak) are NOT dead weight. EVERYONE is an asset....well, almost everyone....just got to find strengths and work with 'em. Took me YEARS to get DW to see that and lemme tell ya, I could see an almost immediate boost in her self-esteem when it finally sunk in!

I'll be making sure a blind 75 year old woman is picked up to come our way. She's a gem. Life is life, lives are lives. It's our moral duty to take care of those who can't take care of themselves, in many instances. SHTF, can't imagine leaving her in her apartment with grid down, or no comms.

I too see her as an asset, given her reality. She's smart, sweet, and informed...... she'd bring moral to the table. She's uplifting, yet weak or sensitive as women are... named my dog after her.

I don't hold hope for that scenario
I look at it more of a local tribe situation when the total chaos hits, people banding together in groups.

It always has become tribal, and it always will become tribal. The groups are already made. Matt Bracken has some good writings on it. Your skin color is the one uniform you can never take off.

I am reminded of an old Strategy and Tactics game, I think 'Berlin 1985', where the Western Allies snuck a great number of troops into Belrin prior to a Soviet attack. And I made a comment on another thread about a Sixth Column (the Fifth being the Chinese). Hey, mentioning S+T, any grognards here besides me?
Nothing like a good old SPI game! I'd still like to find a decent video adaptation of Time Tripper, that game was great. Problem is most hex board games pushed to video just don't work out.

Regarding the MAMs coming in, we're past the point of no return. That old saw about Aztlan will come to fruition, one way or another. Either via brute force, or more likely demographics. It's a big reason I moved out of that southern border area, and pretty much as far away as possible, while I could.

Oh its been a long time since I heard Aztlan. What a flashback. Ah the "Reconquista".

Goliad, do you realize just how many men would have left their wife in Post Op after such an ordeal? I know a guy who divorced his wife when (after their son was born) she went from a size 12 to 14. Beautiful lady and good woman- thrown away.

Forty years you stayed and that brings joy tears to my eyes. Love is a verb. I think you both are Blessed.

Didn't 'stay the whole 40.' We only met 27 years ago. This June we celebrate 25 years as husband and wife, and I'm humbled that she chose me and stuck by ME. I'm not easy to like, let alone love....yet she does. Still in awe of that.

Love is definitely a verb. And an action verb on top of that. But those actions are rewarded richly if they're dedicated to someone who appreciates and reciprocates!

No, I'm not anything special. Not any more than anyone else. Way I look at it, I'm the lucky one. And I work every day to earn continued "luck". I try to do for her what I'd want done for me if the shoe wound up on the other foot. From day one of our knowing each other, she has done what she can to 'earn her keep'. When the kids were still at home, she and the kids had supper on the table dependably. House was straight and clothes were washed and folded. She homeschooled the kids and they all grew up to be successful adults with good work ethics and senses of right & wrong and being responsible. When the kids all flew the coop, she now rarely has supper ready for the table, but she has all the prep work done and supper lined out for me to cook. I take no credit for the menu....can't even take credit for the baked goods as she's the arbiter of when things go in and come out LOL.

The important thing is, she has her strengths, and knows what they are and uses them, and NEVER begs off of something because "I can't..." or something like that. I promised her when I proposed, 'you do what you can, and I'll do the rest'. She's lived up to her part, and so I am honor bound to live up to my part.

I feel like we're threadjacking. Sorry, Kathy.

RG, say what you will. But I still think you are a noteworthy guy. And your wife sounds like a wonderful person also.

Again, I pray God will continue to bless you both !!!

For the most part, sub the word 'human' for 'Latin' and you've hit the nail on the head. I've worked with plenty of Irish, or black, or Latin, or indian, or (you fill in the descriptor) who will cut corners and strategically stack boxes in front of half-done work. It's more cultural than hardwired into DNA.

Best example of that is Texas. We don't, or didn't until the last few years, have any prejudice towards black hair and brown eyes. Never know from looking if that "Mexican" had family that was here longer than mine. Had a friend get told to go back where his people came from, so he replied "Fine. I'll go back out to the ranch that's been in my family since the 1700's." (Title to it is a SPANISH--not Mexican--land grant!)

There's a LOT of difference in attitudes between a 'Texas Mexican' and a Mexico Mexican. Lots of folks' ancestors stayed put when the border moved, and those people are as much my people as anyone. Irritating to me (and I can't imagine how much it irritates THEM) when they get lumped together with the wets any time they venture north.
