We lost a dear friend today, 66 years old. She and her husband, both retired but in good health, spent the winter in Florida in their RV and were casually heading home to Indiana with several stops along the way planned. She died this morning in South Carolina, cause of death has not been released.

A New Jersey mother wants answers after her 12-year-old son died after collapsing during a no-contact football practice.

Elijah Jordan Brown-Garcia, a sixth-grade student at KIPP Rise Academy in Newark, was running drills Feb. 10 when he collapsed and became unresponsive, according to his family and a school spokesperson.

"He was so happy to be there. He didn’t know that it was going to be his last day," the boy’s mother, Raven Brown, told News 12 New Jersey.

Elijah played for the Essex County Predators league. Brown said he was at the practice with his 10-year-old brother, who called her to tell her that Elijah was not responding.

"I said, 'What are they doing? What is anybody doing?' And he said, 'They are pouring water on him, and they are fanning him.' And that’s when I got my kids together and I said, 'I’m on my way,'" she said.

Brown told the news station that CPR was not performed on her son and it took the ambulance a while to get to the field. Elijah was eventually taken to University Hospital in Newark where he died.

A hospital spokesperson said Friday: "University Hospital extends its deepest condolences to the grieving family of this young person. For privacy reasons, however, UH cannot comment on protected health information regarding our patients, including confirmation of a patient’s identity."

Brown said that her son did not get hit during practice and was a healthy child. It was "no contact. It was just drills running back and forth," she said.

A cause of death has not been disclosed.

Elijah was remembered by his school as a "kind, outgoing student who was a friend to all."

"Elijah will be deeply missed by our KIPP students, families and educators," the school spokesperson said.

Essex County Predators league said: "Our Hearts are crushed and our condolences scream out to the family of our very own Elijah E2 Brown. We love You."

Laurie McCartney, President, NASM And AFAA, Dies Unexpectedly | SGB Media Online
Laurie McCartney, president of the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), died unexpectedly on February 6. No cause of death was shared.

McCartney is survived by her children, Jack and Ally, six siblings and their spouses as well as nieces and nephews. Her funeral was held on February 16 in New York.

Since 2016, McCartney served as the president of Fitness and Wellness at Ascend Learning, which owns the NASM, AFAA and Club Connect, all of which McCartney led. During her tenure, the company bought both Club Connect and PTontheNet.

“Powered by Laurie’s innovative and creative business strategies, these brands have significantly expanded on their mission to prepare today’s fitness and wellness professionals for successful careers,” Ascend Learning shared in a statement to Club Industry.

Under her leadership, NASM had a record-breaking performance in January, which was the biggest month in the company’s history.

McCartney identified ways to support the fitness community with new programs and resources with her team launching three certifications—Certified Nutrition Coach, which is NASM’s most successful specialization; Virtual Coaching Specialization, which helped thousands of fitness professionals transition to virtual training during the pandemic; and Certified Wellness Coach, NASM’s first entry into the wellness space.

Her team also built out the Fitness and Wellness offices and gym in Gilbert, AZ and won Best Place to Work in Phoenix for two years in a row and won Healthiest Employers in Phoenix.

“Laurie’s kindness, stewardship and friendship are truly irreplaceable, and the entire Ascend Learning community will continue to honor her memory in everything we do moving forward,” Ascend Learning said in the statement.

Before joining Ascend Learning, McCartney, who held an MBA from Harvard Business School, led strategic marketing and operational efforts for major brands, including the Walt Disney Company, Teleflora, POM Wonderful, Stila Cosmetics, YogaWorks, and Forever 21. She was also the founder, chairman and CEO of her own company, babystyle.

McCartney served on the IHRSA Industry Partner Advisory Council, the trade association for health club operators, and the council advises IHRSA’s executive staff and board to support the growth of the industry and the success of its members.

“The news of Laurie McCartney’s passing was a shock to IHRSA, our Industry Partner Advisory Council, where she was a respected and engaged advocate and the health and fitness industry as a whole,” IHRSA CEO Liz Clark said. “Laurie was a friend, mentor and colleague who inspired with her intellect and approach, and brought the same zeal and creativity to the Association and industry leadership that she brought to her own business and career. Her loss is felt by the entire IHRSA family, and we are holding her colleagues, friends and family in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.”

Bill Davis, CEO of ABC Fitness Solutions and chairman of the council, shared with Club Industry this statement that he sent to council members: “I had the pleasure to get to know Laurie over the past few years, both as a member of our Council but also through a successful partnership we developed together between Ascend Learning and ABC Fitness. I always enjoyed talking to her and admired her ability to think about complex challenges in a simple and logical way. She was a positive beacon for our industry and will be deeply missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing her. As I reflect on Laurie’s passing, it serves as, yet another stark reminder of how precious life is and the importance of cherishing every day and every moment each of us are afforded. My deepest condolences go out to Laurie’s family and those who knew her well.”

Petra Robinson, president of Petra Robinson, Inc., also served with McCartney on the council. She shared the following with Club Industry: “I was privileged to call Laurie my friend. Our relationship grew over four-plus years and went from professional to friendship fairly quickly. That’s Laurie. If she made a connection with you, it was real and authentic. She gave a talk four years ago for International Women’s Day that exemplifies that spirit and drive to be the best you can be no matter what obstacles may come your way. Laurie mentioned in the video and to me multiple times that she found herself as the only female working with a group of powerful, successful men and she saw that as an opportunity for her to succeed, challenge herself, provide a new perspective, and inspire others. I used to tell her, ‘Laurie, you may be small in stature, but you are mighty in will, hard work and inspiration.’”

On February 23, Ascend Learning will hold a celebration of McCartney’s life across the company to honor her legacy of leadership.

Call me crazy but I just don’t recall seeing this MANY young athletes dying before!!

Yes, I’m sure it’s always happened, and maybe, possibly….now we’re paying more attention to the deaths and actively looking for death announcements?

But somehow I doubt that. No way.

Actor Dies Unexpectedly at Age 28, No Foul Play Suspected

Actor and artist Jansen Panettiere, the brother of actress Hayden Panettiere, has died at the age of 28.
According to the website TMZ, foul play is not suspected in Panettiere’s death.

Jansen Panettiere’s acting career began in 2002, according to USA Today. His acting credits included an appearance in season nine of “The Walking Dead.”
According to a report from TMZ, friends of Panettiere’s grew worried about him when he did not show up for a Sunday meeting.
The report said that one friend went to Jansen Panettiere’s New York City apartment and found him unresponsive and sitting in a chair.

The report said that the friend tried to revive him with CPR and also called 911.
Panettiere is five years younger than his sister and worked on projects that included “Even Stevens,” “Blue’s Clues,” “Robots,” “Ice Age: The Meltdown,” and “The X’s.”
The website ET online, citing a source it did not name, said his sister “is absolutely heartbroken.”
“She loved her brother unconditionally and the two shared a special bond,” the source said.
“Jansen suffered from mental health issues and art was his therapy and escape. In the past, Jansen was open to family and friends about his struggles. Hayden was always there for him and constantly tried to help Jansen when she could,” ET’s source said.

Jansen Panettiere wrote about his struggles in a 2019 post on Medium.
“I’m a painter now. I’ve painted for most of my life but only as of recent have I self-identified with the practice. It’s my therapy,” he wrote.

“Those of you whom understand anxiety and depression know that it’s like suffocating. It’s like searching for a breathe of cool air in a steam room,” he said.
When extreme depression hits, he said that when drugs could not help him, “I paint. I paint my problems. It gives me a sense of ultimate purpose.”

“In a world hypnotized by vanity fueled with comparison, art is my escape. The inner demons call to the angels of our being. Finally all these toxic thoughts and feelings have a stage to play and become something much more than just that weight on my chest, the clenching of my fists, the tightness in my jaw. In the words of Meryl Streep ‘take your broken heart and make art,’” he wrote.

"The CEO of the One America insurance company publicly disclosed that during the third and fourth quarters of 2021, death in people of working age (18-64) was 40% higher than it was before the pandemic.

Significantly, the majority of the deaths were not attributed to COVID.

A cabin crew member, aged just 24, died unexpectedly from 'sudden adult death syndrome' after the plane landed at Stansted Airport, an inquest heard.

Greta Dyrmishi was a member of staff working for the airline Air Albania when she suddenly fainted, and passed away in December.

A post-mortem found that that the 24-year-old cabin crew member had died from 'sudden adult death syndrome' and was attended to by paramedics after reports of a woman being seriously ill.

Essex Coroner's Court today heard that Ms Dyrmishi was travelling from the Albanian capital, Tirana, to Essex on December 21 when she fainted suddenly.

First aid and CPR was provided but Ms Dyrmishi was unable to be saved, and paramedics confirmed that she had passed away.

Sudden Adult Death syndrome, also known as Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS) is 'when someone dies suddenly and unexpectedly from a cardiac arrest, but the cause of the cardiac arrest can’t be found', according to the British Heart Foundation.

It affects around 500 people in the UK every year and can result from inherited heart condition, which can lead to SADS if they left undetected and untreated.

The East of England Ambulance Service Trust said two ambulances, a hazardous area response team vehicle, an ambulance officer vehicle and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance responded to reports of a woman being seriously ill.

Michelle Brown, area coroner for Essex, said Greta's death would be subject to a full documentary inquest.

Coroner Brown said: 'This 24-year-old female was cabin crew on a flight from Albania and was on the tarmac when she appeared to faint and was given basic first aid.

'Ten minutes later there was no pulse and CPR commenced. Paramedics treated her and confirmed she had passed away.

'A post-mortem found her cause of death to be sudden adult death syndrome.'

She added: '[At the time of the incident,] she was at the front by the doors on a plane at Stansted Airport. This is suitable for a documentary inquest in due course.'

A statement issued by Air Albania at the time of Greta's death said: 'On December 21, after disembarking the passengers from our flight to London, one of our cabin crew Greta Dyrmishi had a heart attack.

"Though it offers little solace, the Medical Examiner reported Jansen's sudden passing was due to cardiomegaly (enlarged heart), coupled with aortic valve complications"

My brother in law died a week and half ago. My sister was visiting her grandkids while he stayed home for work. She talked to him at 9:45pm. He told her he was going to brush his teeth and go to bed, he’d call her in the morning. He didn’t call and didn’t answer her texts. She KNEW. She drove the 4 hrs back and found him dead. She found his wet toothbrush in the bathroom. He had walked from the bathroom back to the dining room. That’s where she found him. 53 years old. Not vaxxed but had COVID 3 times. We’re still in shock.

1there have been some theoryies that we who are unvaxxed can be "infected by those who are vaxxed with the spike protein that is in the jabs. what comes to mind is Diamond of Diamond and Silk, her abrupt death of cardiac arrest and Silk zI think is proclaiming that perhaps she was infected by the "shedding: of those vaccianted. Last spring my inlaws came to stay with us and wanted us to get Covid tests and I said in a most polite way HELL NO. I never had it, havent had it and will not live in fear of a virus. We are in good health and have no cormorbiditys so Im refuse to demand anyone visiting my house to have a jab. My heart grieves because everyoen in my immediate and suroounding family and firends have take it. They ALL have continous sickenesses and Covid and keep taking boosters. Im sorry for your your loss, I lost my brother last April. Im trying to keep healthy.

Thank you. I think it might be he was shed on but we will probably never know. They were taking care of our elderly parents who are vaxxed. My sister won’t get the autopsy report back for 3-5 months. But I know it will be something like heart attack or stroke. I’m so sorry about your brother.
