We have a junk Aldi about the size of a 7-11... maybe....we went there once..got a few things..just ho hum..very little selection.. totally unimpressed..tried their canned veggies just so so... too tight and hard to shop..

Wegmans store brand veggies are inexpensive and much higher quality...they have many store brand items that are organic.... Wegmans also has great store brand of yellow fin tuna..only kind we use...they also have wonderful bakery with good crusty breads..and a great deli.. and cheese department..

On the other hand we have a large Lidl..down the road closer to home....we much prefer the Lidl.. tons of imported foods...great prices..Large German chocolate bar is only a buck... great imported foods.

We also have a Weis....they have expanded the number items they carry..so we get a wonderful selection of things not carried else where.

We are really lucky we also have a Giant Food, Food Lion, Martin's, Safeway, Publix, a couple of Walmarts, Costco and a BJ's and a good Mexican market..all within reasonable driving distance ....and three Mennonite stores.... But rarely shop at those because they are mostly tourist traps ...there is a real Amish store on working farm in southern Maryland but it is day trip as is our Rural King...also have 2 Dollar Generals real close ....We are in a very rural county of lots of large farms but about equal distance from Fredericksburg and Culpeper .... everything you could want is a bit farther away in the City of Charlottesville....

We make most of our soups from scratch...we only use few canned soups in cooking..we pick those up on sale.....like cream of mushroom and cream of chicken and such....

I do have purse full of store cards... lol
We are blessed to have so many choices but the biggest problem is the prices..things are going up at a crazy pace.. they are getting very scary.... we do watch the ads for the loss leaders..take advantage of all the sales

The Woodman's in Menomonee Falls Wisconsin has the slowest check out lanes I have ever seen in my life.

Plus, the shoppers just stop in the middle of the aisle, totally oblivious to everyone around them.

I stopped going there when the inner city kids were using the electric scooters reserved for handicapped people.

And way too many handicapped people just about running and doing summersaults as they leave there cars.
I haven't been there but I have been to Janesville and two in the oshkosh/appleton area. Nothing like what you described. I doubt it is a Woodmans issue and more a regional one.

I just watched Southern Prepper 1's latest video on youtube. In the comment section, someone mentioned that one of the workers at an Aldi is just beginning to stock up, as management told them they are concerned about future deliveries. It's just one person in one store, but I know doomers, here, like to hear such exciting news/rumors.

I'm sorry I've tried but I just can't with this guy. Not my cup of tea. Not much better than the Looknerd.

Saved, to glorify God.
I make a sweet salad with apples, chopped iceberg lettuce, sliced bananas, walnuts, and raisins and top it with a dressing of mixed cinnamon, curry powder, milk, sugar (or Splenda) and mayo.(or miracle whip)

It really is good and everyone loves it.
Dont leave the curry powder out of the dressing, it is what "makes it" but dont use too much.

Iowa. Prices are higher but seldom is something not stocked. I might get a miss on one or two items on my list.

Walmart and aldis have more non food items. There are bare spaces on shelves at wally world. They spread stuff out in an effort to fill empty areas. Nearest DG runs out of milk, lunch meat, eggs and bacon between trucks. Harps is very well stocked and high priced. Good bacon is $21 a pkg. Canned vegetables tend to run over a dollar a can now. Aisles are MUCH wider.

Everything is crazy expensive. Tax software cost me $50 more this year, around $250. I shudder to think what a tax preparer would charge me for our convoluted stuff. Entry doors start at over $300. If you can find them in stock. Local Home Depot wants to order stuff for you online for pickup at a later date. Later can be 3 months or more.

I hear more people in the stores talking about how some things aren't available so a few are noticing. We took some time to figure out everything we needed for various repairs. Biting the bullet and getting it all now. Expect the food situation to be a real problem sooner than later.

North central Arkansas. West Plains, Mo is better stocked and less expensive.

My Aldi hasn’t been fully stocked since covid. I’m on some Aldi FB pages and we never get the good stuff they rave about.

West plains aldis had far less canned goods last week. Used to buy by the case there. Lots of non food crap spread out and mixed in between foods. Won't be going back any time soon.

You can see the thunderheads forming before you feel the raindrops. The time to get your umbrella is before all hell breaks loose.

The wind is picking up.

Remember that snotty little kid down the street who might say, “Well, I don’t feel any raindrops.” Maybe not, but take a look at those clouds. You really think this storm is going to miss us?

I've never seen our local Walmart, Tupelo, MS. area, as fully stocked as it was, yesterday. The aisles were smaller, because there were displays of all kinds of things in the aisles. It wasn't items waiting to be shelved. It was actual displays of goods. I went up and down each aisle, because, yesterday, was my big shopping day. No shortages at all, and the shelves were actually filled, not just brought to the front. I have a feeling that it was more because of the holidays, and afterwards, things might get low again. I was even able to get our favorite bread that they had been out of for months. I took advantage while the store was fully stocked. For a 2 week supply for us it was $420. Sam's was the same way. I didn't need much at Sam's, so it wasn't as much.

Cornmeal and Lowry's seasoned salt works pretty good.
Yep, and homemade Lawrys is very easy to make. I'll see if I can find the recipe I posted here a few years ago. I know it's not terribly expensive, but if you buy the spices in bulk, or at the Dollar store, you can make it for a fraction of the price.

I use it in most savory dishes in place of plain salt... I also make a slightly zestier version by adding a bit of cayenne pepoer.. yummy!

Here's the Lawrys "clone" recipe..

This seven-ingredient clone of Lawry's Seasoned Salt can be
made in a small bowl, but is best used when poured into an
old spice bottle that you've cleaned out and saved. You've
saved one of those somewhere, right?

2 tablespoons salt
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon cornstarch

1. Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and mix well.
2. Pour blend into an empty spice bottle with shaker top to store.
Makes 1/4 cup.

I multiply the recipe by 8 (or more!), which makes a cup. This makes a good stocking stuffer, especially if you put it in a pretty jar.

I just can't wrap my mind around spending $420 for two weeks for two people. I didn't do that much when I was doing big stock ups. I'm not being critical but I just don't get it. Your meals seem to be frugal.

I spend that much too, probably.
You’d be surprised how far it actually goes.

Or, I should have said “you’d be surprised at how little that will get ya”

I'm not gonna eat till I'm ACTUALLY HUNGRY. With my level of activity (disabled-sedentary) thats really only once a day..

I finally got hungry at 4 pm and had about 1.5 eggs (the other 1.5 eggs went into the french toast )1slice of bacon, (because it was the last slice in the pack and i knew i was eating pork patties too) french toast, and two small ground pork patties.

i was stuffed. Havent had anything else the rest of the day and still not hungry and it 12:30 am the next day. I shouldnt look at what time it is but listen to when my body wants to eat. Bet I'll lose weight. I dont need 3 meals a day, or even WANT them.

Save on dishwashing too!
Maybe its a more food you have the less interest you have in eating?

We make a one stop shopping trip to Walmart. I buy other items than just food. All our doggie treats for 2 weeks adds up, too. I don't order from Amazon like a lot of folks do, either. It's only Walmart, except for Sam's or Aldi's when I'm in Tupelo for other reasons. Out of that $420, the only meat I bought was a medium size beef roast and a 3 lb. bag of frozen chicken breasts. It was a big shopping day, because I needed to replace more items from my pantry than usual. I did pick up a few "want" items, not "need" items, too, because of the holidays. Everything is just so expensive.

My pick up order today is $201 and that includes two 46# bags of dog food (granted I do buy the cheap store brand) and they are $27 each, two cases of water, among other things for the month. Its been a month since I went to the grocery. Nothing but the dog food and the water is for prep. The other things are nice to have, like yogurt, three different kinds of butter to try. Oh and I am getting coffee, although I have a decent supply.

I do have to go in the store for some things DH gave me money for, too late to add to my pick order. I'll get to see whats what inside the store.

I think I'm going to be shocked at how small my order will be for $201. I was just remembering when I was really stocking up and my $200 went so much further than it does these days. I'm blessed to have done my big push when prices were lower. I used to buy a case of walmart brand mandarian oranges, they were 98 cents a can and now they are 1.34. Fortunately I don't need to stock up, just replace. I look at a can of those oranges differently than I use to. I'd easily eat one can all by myself, now I cut my serving in half and I don't eat them every day anymore.

Folks need to be thinking and looking locally for CSA (community supported agriculture) farmers. Just filled our freezers with 1/2 a cow and 1/2 a hog. Son bought the other halves so he's set also for the next year. WAY better quality meat at less than supermarket prices. We personally know the grower and butcher so we get exactly what we want the way we want it.

Sorry but I'm just not trusting Corporate AG anymore and tired of paying the middle man's jacked up prices for crappy food.

I don't trust them either, and its been a God's send for us to have wild game and DH learned to process his own about three years ago. Although it was cheaper to pay the processor than to buy meat at the store.

Yeah. You can't get any cheaper than venison and wild pork processed at home. DS has 2 freezers full of both, although, he didn't do the processing himself. He has his own processer who does a great job.

DH learned how to process from the young pastor up the road, the young man wanted some of the smaller wild pigs for his freezer and DH catches them in his pig trap. DH was all excited that he could do his own. The processor we had been using was iffy when it came to what we go back. And it was getting expensive.
