CRISIS Elected Officials Need to find a Path to Protection for our children

I live in Texas and yesterdays shooting is one more strike against elected officials who pose, postulate, point fingers and otherwise neglect to do anything about our epidemic of school shootings.

Texas is Republican owned and operated. I have lived here most of my life. There has been zero effort to halt or lower the school shootings. Why don’t we have armed security at each and every school in Texas? Not just in rich sections but every school. During the pandemic, we were able to limit access to large grocery stores by implementing one way in and out of the building. Why can’t we do that in our schools? Limit access points to areas that are properly protected by a trained professional.

Do I think this is the best solution? No, not at all, but at least it is something. Texas can afford it and even if not so, I believe most people would willingly pay a few more dollars in property taxes or sales tax if the money was dedicated and actually used to protect our children. Our schools should be awash with funding from the lottery sales alone.

Governor Abbott, do you have a plan? Any plan? Anything at all?

Agree - all it takes is willpower and money to pay for it. Maybe use some of the 40 BILLION wasted on Ukraine!!

You will never stop 'evil'. You can try, but 'evil' exists and the only thing one can do is face evil with an appropriate response.

The appropriate response is often viewed as criminal, so until that aspect is corrected, and folks don't feel that they will be treated worse than the evil act itself, then evil will grow and persist.

Nanny states don't work as they limit the response to evil... each and every time.

Rhetorical question...why don't people like this nut case attack a police station?

Answer is they would never be able to perpetrate the crime as they would have return fire from every direction. They always choose gun free zones because they know they have several minutes of carnage before anyone can stop them. The real answer is a return to morality, absolute truth and respect all of the things which was lost when we kicked God out of the classrooms in the early 1960's.

Other than that the answer is the Israeli model. Every school should have armed and trained adults in them and have it be widely publicized that anyone that tries to use deadly force in or around their campus will be met with a very unpleasant experience. Most but not all of the people that do these crimes will seek out easier venues.

Cain killed Abel with a rock. Many people are killed each year with hammers. I was on the jury for a murder trial where the victim was killed with a bow and arrow. Knives, hatchets, and even knitting needles have been used to murder. And then there are poisons of all sorts.

My daughter got me a fridge magnet that says "If guns kill people then cars drive drunk, pencils misspell words and forks make people fat".

Criminals will ALWAYS find a way to kill if they want to kill. It's not about guns. It's about them being able to control the people. I refuse to allow myself to go down like Shanghai.

And I also refuse to allow myself to be guilted into to doing what they want by them using children. I'm sick of the gaslighting in this world. My FB feed is full of crap today because people can't see the truth. Even if this were on the up and up and this guy did actually do this, or do this alone, or whatever, it's about this messed up guy. There is a lot of evil in this world and this is part of the fall out of that.

This is the ONLY time I will say New York City "almost" has it right: they have School Resource Officers is pretty much every public school. Most have metal detectors, patrols at each door, etc...

The only caveat is that most of them are unarmed.

It seems to work; haven't heard of a school shooting in NYC in a LONG time.

We sit in the comfort and safety of our homes while sending off our little children
into a minefield, hoping that nothing bad will happen.

We keep waiting for someone else to step up and take charge.

While our children's lives are on the line, we patiently wait on our taxpayer funded elected officials
to do something, anything??? Just how much more time will they need to decide???

Yet, we keep waiting, decade after decade.

In one of the schools that I drive for, I park out back with the bus, waiting for the kids to load.
I watch several doors on the back of the school. Many students are exiting the locked doors, going
to their cars and returning to the school, through the locked doors. The doors are either propped open
or other students will let them back in. The movement is nonstop through these locked glass doors.

Contact you local school, county sheriff and governor.

If your school doesn't have a solid plan in place for school security, pull you kids out of that school
and open enroll in a school that does. Or home school, if you can???

I've noticed that schools don't want armed guards within their buildings. After all, it's illegal to carry
on firearm on school property.

I think I can...
My daughter is a teacher, which is just one reason this terrifies me. She doesn't have a CCW (we gave her and her fiancé training class for Christmas, still haven't taken it) but technically no longer needs one in Ohio. Should take one anyway.

You can make guns illegal. You can put armed guards at school entrances. You can do all kinds of the things that "they" put forth as a solution to prevent school (or workplace, or anywhere) shootings. But they aren't a solution. They're just treating the symptoms.

If we've got a prayer of stopping this insanity, what's needed is a CULTURAL change, so that once again, we:
1. Value life (which means stopping abortion)
2. End illegal immigration.
3. Stop the war on religion -- instead promote it
4. Respect (and take care of) police
5. Promote morality and ethical behavior (and stop glorifying its opposite)
6. Promote strong family units

Out of these, I think the last is the most important -- even more so than religion and morality, though they go hand-in-hand. How many of these mass murderers come from strong family units with both mom and dad? I'm guessing zero.

At this juncture, thanks to the quality of today's reporting & MSM's knee jerk "Outlaw guns" BS, we don't know the shooter's backstory or have any idea what might have driven this. He supposedly bought two(2) AR15s on his BD, 6 days previous to the event. I was told that was a trigger for FBI to hold approval but I may have misunderstood or had bad info: it was a while ago.

My wife says she saw an image of a grey F150 in a ditch, reportedly the shooter's & said it looked like a nice truck. Now apparently he was equipped w/body armour. All that adds up to some financial resources as even two budget ARs must be $5-550 each. Such resources indicate to me he was possibly a spoiled brat, working full time or had some other source of income.

I'm putting my money on yet another community/family failure to report bad or violent behaviours or possibly another entity not updating the FBI DBF w/ info which might nave triggered a hold on the transfer but we won't know until all the involved LEAs get a cohesive statement together.

We're a ways off from there I think.

And that idiotic attitude is what has led us down the path we are on. Relying on elected officials to do everything. Your safety is in YOUR hands not the govts, period. Same for your family, animals home etc. More bullshit laws and rules isn't what's needed. But no that won't happen, let's rely in those that have screwed us over time and again to fix something that is out of their depth. Brilliant...

I think most all Texas schools now, are allowed to have their own police dept. Position an armed officer at each entrance in the AM, and the exit each PM. Lock the doors. when the kids are inside, entrance allowed only by phone call to the office (number posted on the door). Designate a couple of teachers inside to have door keys in case of fire or emergency.

Protection/security isn't hard, it's just a thinking man's game.

Why not find out what the real problem is. That would take some critical thinking that POS Commie liberals don’t have. They just use every shooting as tool to further their Commie agenda, which by the way is exactly why we have these problems. Liberal agenda, teachings and lifestyles and lack of God & reality.

Don’t blame just the republicans. The same has happened in liberal shit holes. What’s changed in the last 50 years? This was never a problem when I grew up. Start there. Why … liberal control of schools and destruction of God in our lives … integration of schools … etc. Right is wrong, wrong is right, their science is wrong, no meaningful productive social construct. They destroy it.

Take away the dang cell phones and video games. That there is a major part of the problem. That and the LBGTQ is told they’re normal. They aren’t. They are mentally ill. Sounds like this shooter was one of them … and a liberal.

How about parents start getting involved with their kids lives instead of giving them everything they ask for and can‘t communicate because all interaction is done on a 4x6 screen.

The government, from top to bottom, in its knowing zeal to put a kill shot in every American man, woman AND child.......never instilled in me any desire to have them protect me or my offspring, from anything, ever, previous to their glaring murderous larceny of the last two years.

Why would I want them to start pretending to.....now ?

Something is wrong with this story. It has been 20 years or more that a person could just run into a school in Texas. Somebody had inside help or it did not happen. With that being said all willing teachers should open carry at all times on school grounds.

Armed guards at every school?
Metal detectors?
Checkpoints?

What about at every daycare?
What about at every business?
What about every convenience store?
swimming pool?
Church?
Nightclub?

Who wants to live like that?

We do not have a gun problem, we have problems with mental illness!

You don't think so?

Look at all the wokeness!

How many genders do they proclaim?

look at how they teach CRT and teach people to hate whites!

Look at the bias in media and even advertising!

There are a LOT of problems but using a particular weapon is not one of them!

all the way from ASSKLOWN central on the Potomac - to the DA's who refuse to prosecute specific classes of crime involving certain protected individuals/groups - to PTA's which completely reject the laws of the state in which they exists

why are we surprised?

schools in Israel have NOT been attacked since 1974. All are armed and with nasty terrorists nearby (Hamas, Hezollah et al)
private Jewish school nearby has a armed sec dude.
Jewelry stores, banks, school board meetings, all have armed guards.

Beetlejuice's Chicago has has black on black EVERY week end - multi deaths.
Riots last summer were called "peaceful" to the tune of $billions of damage.

Having subbed for 10 years in the public school system, I am all for the Israeli model. It is going to take armed educators to minimize this growing problem along with getting at the root of the problem….. the mental health of our young ones and the contributing factors responsible for this obvious change.

your elected government officials have had control of your children's education since the '50s.

and every year, it gets worse.
your elected officials are the cause . they can't make it better.

HEY! Teacher . . . Leave those kids alone.

First they will refuse the concept that armed teachers is best way to fix the problem and it need not be forced upon the teachers but allow any that are willing to do some training to placate the idiots in the political system.
They would rather take the most expensive route and thats putting a law enforcement officer in each and every school in the country and just one and it's not the same as allowing teachers to be armed where there can be 10 or more people armed not just one donut eating cop.

Paths already exist but the dems don’t want paths that rely on the police or armed teachers and smartly designed hardened schools.
Forget about stopping The over medication of kids.
these would deflate their argument

If we wait for elected officials to do anything we will all pay. It's time for people to stand up. WE are the government. It's up to us. Parents affect local school boards who can authorize those willing and trained adults (janitors, teachers or admins) to be armed. Harden our schools - don't make them such easy targets. The best way counter to a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

Next, the school boards, parents and everyone involved agrees not to speak the shooter's name. Do not give them notoriety.

Then, or course we need to censor these violent video games, movies and TV that hardens people to killing. Don't let anyone profit from violence.

The answer is never to turn schools into prisons. My dad's generation carried guns to school as students without any problems. There was no need for metal detectors or police officers at schools.

There are two solutions that would cut to the quick and should be implemented simultaneously. Allow everyone, students teachers parents to carry firearms at schools. And allow Jesus back into the schools.
