NEW HYDE PARK, NY — A high school biology teacher accused of giving a teenager a COVID-19 shot without his mother's consent has been reassigned from her classroom duties, according to Long Island school officials.

Laura Parker Russo, 54, was arrested on New Year's Eve after authorities said she administered a shot of what appeared to be the vaccine to a 17-year-old boy in her Sea Cliff home. The teen later returned home and told his mother, who then called the police and said she never gave consent.

Russo, a teacher at Herricks Public Schools, was charged with the unauthorized practice of a profession.

Herricks Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Fino Celano, released a statement about the incident, saying that Russo has been "removed from the classroom and reassigned pending the outcome of the investigation."

"The alleged incident is non-school related," the statement read. "As this is a matter of personnel, the district has no further comment."

Russo is scheduled to appear in criminal court on Friday, Jan. 21.

According to NBC New York, Russo was arrested in Sea Cliff on New Year’s Eve 2021. That’s a village located in Nassau County in Long Island, New York.

Russo is a teacher in the Herrick School District, according to the district’s website page for her. Her full name is Laura Parker Russo.

A video, shared on Twitter by Pei Sze-Cheng, who is an investigative journalist with News 4 New York, shows a woman identified as Russo dabbing the arm of a teenage boy.

“Never been so uncomfy in his life,” the caption on the video reads.

“There you go, at home vaccine,” a male voice says. The woman makes a comment about a needle. “‘There you go, at home vaccine.’ Police have arrested a Long Island mother for illegally giving a 17 year old boy a shot of Covid vaccine in her home. And there’s video,” wrote Sze-Cheng on Twitter.

2. Russo Is Not a Medical Professional Authorized to Administer Vaccines, Police Say

According to PIX 11, Russo was accused of giving the teenager the COVID-19 vaccine without the permission of his parents or “medical authorization to do so.”

Authorities say the teen is 17, and Russo administered him the vaccine at Russo’s home in Sea Cliff at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, December 31, 2021.

It’s not clear why the boy was at the teacher’s house, but the teenager told his mother, who called police, PIX 11 reported. PIX 11 reported that police say Russo is not a medical professional and doesn’t have authorization to administer vaccines.

She’s accused of “unauthorized practice of a profession,” the television station reported.

“The mother had not given permission or authority to have her son injected with a Covid Vaccine,” police said in a news release obtained by News Observer. Heavy has contacted Nassau County police for additional details.

3. Russo Has Been Reassigned Out of the Classroom

The Herrick County School District is conducting an investigation.

In a statement for Herricks Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Fino Celano wrote, “the individual in question is a district employee who has been removed from the classroom and reassigned pending the outcome of the investigation.”

The district further wrote, “The alleged incident is non-school related. As this is a matter of personnel, the district has no further comment.”

The statement was emailed to Heavy upon request.

4. Russo Works as a Science Teacher in the District



According to her website page, Russo teaches biology classes. Russo’s home page on the Herricks High School website reads, “I will be posting the powerpoint presentations I show during class including hyperlinks and handouts. Please review them before exams. Extra help is Tuesdays after school or see me to meet a different time. Work hard & good luck will follow”

One PowerPoint on her page instructs students about “safety in the biology laboratory.” Among other topics, she teaches students about body systems and immunity, as well as genetics. One lesson on her page discussed whether “pig rectum was being sold as imitation calamari.”

“When working with lab equipment, chemicals, and different specimens in the laboratory, basic safety rules and procedures are to be followed,” one of her assignments says. “These rules and regulations will make your laboratory experience safe and rewarding.” She’s listed as teaching “Living Environment” on the Herricks High School website.

5. Russo, Who Has Six Kids, Is a Volunteer for Civic Associations in Sea Cliff

According to Simply North Shore, a website about the North Shore, Laura Russo is a contributor. “Laura is a Sea Cliff resident & a native Long Islander. She is a tenured Biology Teacher at Herricks High School and loves her profession as an educator. Laura volunteers her time as a Member of the Sea Cliff Civic Association,” the website says.

Her husband, John Russo, is also listed as a contributor. “John transitioned from a 30-year successful career on Wall Street to follow his true passion, real estate. He has lived in Sea Cliff for over 20 years and is highly regarded in the community,” his bio reads.

According to his real estate website, John Russo “has lived in Sea Cliff for over 20 years and is highly regarded in the community. John and his wife, Laura, are raising a ‘Brady Bunch’ family of 6 kids. Laura is an active member of the Sea Cliff Civic Association while John sits on the board of the Sea Cliff Landmarks Preservation Commission.”

Nor do they know if they were stored, transported, and handled properly. I'd be demanding an attempted murder charge, assault of a minor, and a few other charges. Dollars to donuts she's a bleeding heart liberal.

If this kid had died because of this shot, she should have been charged with murder. Because he hasn't died (or at least yet!), she should still be charged with attempted murder as she is NOT a medical professional and should NOT have had this shot to give to begin with! If she had, for example, tied the kid up and forced him to listen to Bible readings, she would have had charges against her immediately and been thrown out of her job - just because it was an un-liberal thing to do. But because the libs seem to hold sway right now, and the conservatives aren't speaking out like they should, she'll get off scott free with injecting poisonous substance into a minor.

If the school is big enough then they probably have a school nurse/office and she could have taken it from there is my thought.

Others will be involved and indicted. Woe to the health professionals who provided her with the vaccine.

Asked hubby if that comes back on the school or just the teacher...he said he wouldn't take any bets ...if the parents push hard enough it may make it back on the school depending on how the school/county/board/state politics play...as well as the lawyers that get involved...

I think the whole story is really strange and I don’t just mean HER which is obvious.

Who took that video then gave to you the reporter?

Where did she get the vaccine?
How many other times had she done this ?

Do other kids know to go to her if they come from a “no vaxx” home but the rest of the world tells them they NEED to take it?

Excellent point, and teens do NOT know how to keep their mouths shut.

When I was teaching EMTs and MEDICS, I used to have to differentiate between Assault and Battery. "Assault" was me coming at them waving the needle, or splint etc. "BATTERY" was me actually starting the line or applying the splint etc.

And yeah, you CAN have "Battery" with no "Assault" when there is no fear involved.

#1. We don't have crazy friends like that.

#2. Both of my boys are smart enough to decline a jab if it was offered, and big enough to tear your arms off if it was forced.

Hypothetically...in minecraft, at minimum her hands and knees would cease to function in the manner they should would be the desired response, but in the real world, first I'd lawyer the hell out of that family to see if that gave the desired satisfaction.

And if the boy develops any adverse reactions to the vaccine, this “teacher” takes all the blame, not the pharmaceutical company which is immune.

The school has deeper pockets, hence the reassignment without hesitation. But that might not be enough if this isn't her first victim - what did the school know or what SHOULD they have known? Cue shark music.

After talkin to hubby some more...he isnt sure how the reassignment will cya the school given she vaxed the kid...he said there are major restrictions on when they can legally touch a kid n how...issues with givin so much as a tylenol without emergence issues or emergency personal present..right lawyer is gona have the whole lot runnin to protect their own fannies... schools/boards are notorious for tossin subordinates under a bus on most issues...n this one is comin at a time parents are already feed up with schools n boards n attitudes n antics that schools are associated with (CRT, parents labeled domestic terrorists n so on...)...so as he said...normally bad behavior /inappropriate behavior may get a reassignment n parents shuttin up...he's not sure how far lawyers smellin blood in the water won't pull the shark feedin routine to shame all real sharks...dependin on who the parents are listenin to for advice n how p.o.ed the parents are in general over the vax...n if they like the teacher...he finally said his best guess...she'll lose her teachin credentials n the school/county will write a check that puckers lot of fannies...sigh... that's the just of our long discussion condensed to a few minute post...just hope I got this all right cause he went into a lot of details n different scenarios that could play out...
