First noticed this with Montgomery Wards in their last year. Then again in Kmarts death spiral. This year many places Cabela’s, TJ maxx. Ect. Crap packed so close you can hardly get through it with a cart.

I used to haunt Burlington, they always had marked down designer stuff. And it is crap, too. I was in a TJ Maxx recently -- took a neighbor shopping. Mostly cheap items from China with a hefty mark-up.

In the 90’s during college I worked at a Burlington….. omg we got some really really really nice stuff cheap!! I went to one a couple months ago and was sad it was a complete dump not at all like the one I worked at
I seriously have filled my work wardrobe with designer stuff for a fraction of what it normally retails for.Can you find some good deals at Burlington? I would have to go almost all the way to Memphis to shop there, and haven't, because I don't know how good their merchandise is.

I really need to consider going, even though, I don't know what the experience will be like. If it's trashy, or I feel in danger, I can always leave. I'm a sucker for good deals on name brand/designer clothing!
Ours is literally, a dump. And it's in a high end mall. I don't know why the management doesn't make them at least clean up the store. It's the filthiest department store that I have ever been in. Think Sav-a-Lot grocery store nasty. The last time I was in there (pre-Covid) I came home and took a shower.
They don't have good buys either, and the store was half empty.
It's probably a regional thing...
If there isn't one near you it probably isn't worth your while. You have to go in frequently and hunt (look thru all the racks, the stuff is mixed in with everything else.)I really need to consider going, even though, I don't know what the experience will be like. Burlington is a dump here, filled with "People of Walmart." It's next to a Hobby Lobby, or I'd never go to that area at all.
I worked a retail clothes store at 16. That's when I found out the markup on clothes was 100%. Changed the way I thought for sure.
Is that over by Merle Hay Mall in W. Des Moines?
Just saying, Merle Hay Mall is in Des Moines not WDM. Pretty much on the border of Urbandale, but still in DM.
Oh, you're one of THEM. I'm married to one of THEM....It's next to a Hobby Lobby, or I'd never go to that area at all.

If my wife ever comes up missing, Hobby Lobby is the first place I'll look for her.
I’ve been in Burlington stores in So Cal and Sioux Falls. Biggest difference is SF is full of Muslims and the CA stores are full of Central American immigrants. Both very short on stock and filthy.Ours is literally, a dump. And it's in a high end mall. I don't know why the management doesn't make them at least clean up the store. There's a shoe warehouse place near here.
I've bought the same Sketcher shoes for many years.
Was in last week, the Sketcher selection was noticeably abbreviated.
None of the ones I like were in stock.
Our TJ Max had a section on American made products, clothing, shoes, socks, cook ware. Shelves were not supper full through out the store. The Ross store was very empty of products. I like Ross for buying kitchen ware. And it is crap, too. I was in a TJ Maxx recently -- took a neighbor shopping. Mostly cheap items from China with a hefty mark-up.
I finally switched to Skechers. Love the fur, ease of putting them on and off and how long they last.Skechers is the only shoe I can wear these days. I noticed that even in their retail stores they aren’t getting the stock they used to.

When K-Mart, Penneys and Sears were closing stores they were bringing in stuff from other stores to discount and get rid of. Some good bargains but tons of carp to go through to find them.
