I did not know that. That's a great idea for keeping him checked from time to time to make sure he doesn't have another one slipping up on him. We were wondering how we were going to keep a check on it, after he finishes the antibiotics. He never has any symptoms at all.

Right now, he is drinking only a limited amount of black coffee, lots of water, a glass of ginger ale a day, taking the Macrobid, and D-Mannose. I have extra strength AZO on hand if he should need it. I have to keep that for myself for my bladder issues.

Gosh... I sure hate to be the bearer of bad news, given how Cary has talked about his coffee addic... er, love of coffee. But my dad was a 2 pot a day drinker into his 50s, when serious kidney problems put him into the hospital for a few days. The upshot was- the coffee! He cut back to two CUPS a day (damned near killed him!) and never had an issue again.

I've been doing a lot of research online about men and UTI's. Coffee was one of those things that kept being mentioned over and over. Cary would have a fit if he couldn't have his coffee, so I told him to limit the amount he drinks. He's still drinking too much, but I don't have the heart to take it completely away from him. He's already trying to get over his green tea addiction. We have a ton of bottled green tea stored, and are giving it away. I think it's the green tea that's causing the problem with him. He drank it constantly. I mentioned 3 bottles a day in an earlier post, but after thinking about it, it was more than that. More green tea than coffee. Anything citrus is also bad from what I've read.

ETA....Cary just order the AZO test strips and AZO UTI Defense (supposed to treat UTI with an antibacterial med, plus a pain reliever). I hope he isn't allergic to the antibiotic part of it.

Thank you for sharing this! I think I'll order some of these too.

After reading Doomer Doug's frantic post about cyna pulling the plug on any goods coming to America, which I don't believe, I ordered DH some extra socks. I've always kept a good supply but its been a year since I ordered him any. so just in case!

I'm prepped. No we don't have an Atlas bunker or stocked missile silo. What I did find today was an old fashioned non electric coffee percolator. We've a little stash of ground coffee and a percolator.

If things get toasty I'm hoping the stash lasts long enough for Patriots to kick the Communists back under the rock they crawled out from and instill a proper amount of humility and fear in the elites.

I suspect a bout of "hard times" might be a significant learning opportunity in the need for self determination, self reliance and personal responsibility for progressive liberals.

Everything at Cary's doctor appt went well, yesterday. Doctor still is thinking this spot on his lung is nothing to worry about. He wants Cary to have a CT scan of it, Tuesday, so we'll have that done. If there has been no change, he'll get another one in 6 months. If no change, then, he won't have to be scanned again. The doctor and nurse never even asked about a vax of any kind.

So, we went on to Sam's. Limits on a lot of products, and empty shelves all over the store. Only a very few packages of store brand pt and tp left, and there were limits of 1 each. I managed to get everything on my list, and several other items just for the sake of getting them while I still could. The 51oz Folgers coffee I bought had gone up 60 cents from 2 weeks ago. The meat dept. was totally devastated! There were only a few packages of ground beef left at $4.19/lb. We get ours at Food Giant at $3.99/lb. The last time I saw our Sam's this bare was back at the heigth of the C-19 panic. I have a feeling, this time around, it's going to be even worse. To me, there was just a sense of unease/panic on the faces of most people there.

After canning chicken this week I also made and canned broth, I had 5 quarts and 1 pint. I need to get all the jars of both labeled and moved out of the kitchen. Pork is up next, not sure if I’m up to getting it all done today or not but I plan on getting jars washed and things organized for tomorrow if I can’t finish today.

I need to get busy getting socks and undies for the kids and socks for the adults for Christmas (it’s traditional for us), thanks for the reminder.

I think I’m done shopping for little granddaughter, I’ve been pulling together some items to make a dress up box for her, some Bitty Baby books that she loves (and I bought used at a great price). We do the “something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read”. Socks and undies are something she needs and I always let mom pick out the something to wear. I’m not as far along with the grandsons, they are at that age they are harder to shop for.

DH ran by Kroger and got about 6 cans each of kroger brand canned pintos, red beans, chili beans and Italian diced tomatoes, 59 cents sale price. Also was finally able to find mild Rotel, we used both original and mild so was happy to get a few more cans of both. Some items on the list weren’t in stock like the Kroger sausage links and something else I can’t remember now. He’s also listened to me about getting oil changed in our vehicles, tires on his truck and is getting tires put on our SUV today. I’m glad that will be good for awhile.

I popped in to the local grocery store yesterday - small Mom & Pop store now being ran by the Son; good people all. I picked up a package of 2 cube steaks, 4.7# of ground beef, and a 4.6# rump roast.

The cube steak will be tonight's supper - browned with a mix of onions and peppers, then put in a cassarole dish, covered with brown gravy, and baked - there will be a small Corning Ware dish of baby potatoes cooking along side; skillet fried apples for the other side dish, and more corn bread.

We made the ground beef in to meatloaf mix and put 5 packages in the freezer, keeping out enough to make meatballs for tomorrow's lunch/my work supper that night. I cut the roast up in to chunks, and we put 9 vac bags of stew meat in the freezer from it. Hubby said "Don't you usually can this?" as we were bagging it; I told him I'd have to go in to town to get another roast to make it worth dragging out the canner. I am running out of room in the freezer though, and the roasts are on sale through tomorrow... And today is the last day of my vacation, after which I have to work 4 - 12's the next two weeks, starting tomorrow, so maybe not... Although, the sale ad for next week's sale at the store in the pool town is showing boneless beef top roast for $5.99/lb which is a buck more a pound than I paid for the rump roast.... dang it!

The yard is put away for the winter, the mowers mulched the leaves and weedeated everything. The cooler weather means no more grass to mow! Our mowers are good friends and their family have taken care of our yard and our animals for years. The sons have been my helpers since they were 12 and 13 but they are grown now. Bonus is they live down the street and always have time to help us.

Working on a new Walmart order, my dog eats Biljac and I was only allowed to order 1. Hope that's not a sign of things to come. I have 7 bags in the freezer but I want to get at least 1 or 2 more as a hedge. I'm going to get a turkey breast for the freezer just in case we don't go to my niece's for Thanksgiving.

I'm still getting green beans from the garden, along with Little Gem lettuce that reseeded it's self and have a couple of others doing really well as well. Dh has promised we will start the the green house this weekend. He feels good and his platelets are holding up and have been going up every week. After that I hope to start on a new chicken coop for next spring, my sister usually has a couple of hens that go broody so we will find some fertilized eggs for one to sit on. She has my last chicken, she goes broody every year, but she's about 12 so I don't know if she'll be able to take them on.

I need to wash bed linens and throws. Order firewood and get some things done around the house.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Does anyone here know how much too much Turmeric is? I take 500 mg/daily, but I need something a bit stronger for inflammation. I was wondering if I could increase the amount, but don't want to over do it. My doc has taken me off HCQ, and I need something to take it's place, even if it only helps a bit.

I took 2,000 mg daily for years. Although what I took was Curcumin not regular tumeric, ask ST about that. Why did your doc prescribe HCQ for you?

I've been taking HCQ for several years for Lupus. Now, I've got macular degeneration, and he took me off of it. I'm left with nothing for the inflammation that comes with Lupus, unless I agree to take Methotrexate which I don't want to do. It can cause cancer as a side effect. I've been taking the Turmeric Curcumin 500mg for quite awhile, too. Now, that's all I'm taking.

I was hoping I would be ok without the HCQ, but I'm having a small flare up with the Lupus right now. I know that just taking Turmeric Curcumin isn't going to be enough to stop Lupus inflammation, but it might help if I could take a higher dose. I just don't want to over do it. How would I know if I'm taking too much?

Are you taking piperine with the curcumin? If not, it's not going to help much. Piperine is a black pepper extract that increases blood levels of curcumin by 2000%.

There are combination products, but I advise against them. Why? Because your max dose of piperine is 10 mgs daily. But you *can* take higher doses of curcumin. So what we do is take the bioperine (10 mgs) with the first dose of curcumin we take in a day, but any subsequent doses we take the curcumin alone.

Basically, if you take "too much" curcumin, you'll know it! Loose stools and irritation...

Try adding piperine first, if you aren't taking it, but then you can certainly increase your dose to tolerance.

What I've been taking hasn't had piperine in it, but I just bought a new bottle at Sam's that does have piperine in it at 10mg per dose. These are 1000mg Turmeric capsules with Curcumin C3 Complex. These would be a higher dose than what I've been taking, and still, I'm afraid to take too much. Any little thing, including supplements, have a tendency to throw my whole system out of whack.

Thanks!

I've taken the Jarrow brand of curcumin up to 2,000 a day with a separate piperine, it has worked well for me in the past, I'm not taking that much right now. I bought some of that combination stuff with the piperine in it because the Jarrow brand has gotten so expensive. But I only take one 500 mg of that combo and if I want more I take the Jarrow that is just curcumin. This extends a bottle of the Jarrow brand (about $28 a bottle most places, sometimes a little less).

Our garden is done for the year. I am really happy, as I feel we used more of it than usual - it seems we always have some waste. Much was given away to the neighbors and the local food pantry. I need to be a canning fool with the potatoes, though!

I tried growing blue Hubbard squash and sweet dumpling squash for the first time this year. The blue Hubbards are amazing when used as a substitute for pumpkin. I'm fixing the sweet dumplings tonight for the first time, so we'll see how they are. I am trying to use up every bit of everything..... onions that had started to sprout were sliced and dried, along with enough blanched cabbage to fill the dehydrator (no sense in running it empty). I've got carrots in buckets of sand, and beans drying in the mudroom to save the seeds. this is my favorite time of year - after I get the garden in!

We have our propane tanks filled in the summer when prices are lower. I want to start up the woodstove, but I think DH is worried it will make my lung condition worse. My last CT showed marked improvement, so I"m not as concerned as I was this spring. At this point, anything to pinch pennies is good!!

Our high today is supposed to be only 69 with tonight's low of 45. It's still too warm to start up the wood heater, so we have a small propane heater we use at night. 45 is cold to us. Supposed to be back up around 80 in a few days, though. Won't be long, though, before we have to crank it up. I'll have free hot water then!

I gave my best friend one of our tubes of ivemectin. She has been sick for over 2 weeks. Her dr gave her an inhaler, antibiotics, and prednisone from a phone consultation. But she was really not improving. Every place they called was out. I told her husband to come get one of ours. She took it and thinks it has helped. In a couple of hours her low grade fever she had run the whole time was back to normal. Her oxygen levels are coming up each day. Her husband took some too since he was feeling like he was coming down with what his wife had. He feels much better too. He is pretty much back to normal. So was it the dr meds or the ivemectin? We don't know. But thank God my friend is getting better.

Silly question, my friend.

We all know that the only thing ivermectin is good for is deworming horses. The renouned medical expert, Dr Toby Ouchy has already enlightened us on this point.

Has your friend developed a sudden fondness for grazing grass yet?

Look, it is really very simple, Digger.

Human medicines are for humans.

Horse medicines are for horses.

And if a human takes a horse medicine, they will turn into a pumpkin at midnight. Or maybe they turn into a jack ass. Something like that...

Anyway, For heavens sake, don’t let your friend take any more of that horse dewormer.

She might get to feeling better, and maybe go on to recover from her Covid.

And good ole Dr Ouchy would’t want to see that happen. Not if it meant that the big secret about the effectiveness of horse paste were to get out.

I managed to finish up the watermelons - I froze a bit and the rest (that was getting really spongy) went to the cows. The tomatoes got pureed and put in the freeze dryer and I filled the large crockpot with apples. Tomorrow - applesauce and making cabbage pockets (krautburgers, bierocks, whatever you call them in your neck of the woods).

Yesterday I bought a beef roast and pork for around $21.00 and filled three pints of beef roast and six pints of Mississippi Pork Roast. Was disappointed the meat didn't fill more jars so finished filling up the canner a little with five pints of black beans.
I also found the Southgate Beef Stew and Chicken A La King at Dollar Tree this week. They are very good.
