This is NOT the Army I would want my kid to be a part of. Anywhere, in any capacity.
But if he wants to stay in, tell him about the FA (functional area) career fields. See Functional Area (FA) / Career Fields (globalsecurity.org) for a basic overview. I used to teach in FA-39 (Civil Affairs/Psyop) at USAJFKSWCS, which is how I came to know about it.
Slots are pretty competitive and tend to demand an academic bent. But he could wind up with an Army funded masters degree and language skills or other schooling, depending on what he chose to do.

He just might leave after his broadening assignment at Benning. He is teaching Calvary Captains for a year. I would not want to continue with this ridiculous administration but we will have to see. Thanks for the information!!!
Keep in mind, what the Army wants him to do is in the Army's best interest, not his. They have slots to fill and usually people are just pegs to go in those holes.
I have two baby cousins in uniform at present and I think I have talked another out of anything beyond National Guard service. It is a trying time to be part of a military connected family.

No let me tell you about my son Captain Dan. He has a copy of the Constitution on his person all the time. He WILL NOT stay in if he would ever have to go against what he swore his oath to. There have been a lot of comments on this thread that have been not very well thought out. Let's think about the success of what he has accomplished to get here and celebrate that. A BiG Thank you to everyone who wish him the best and congrats!!!

Congrats. It took a solid loving family to raise a guy who is sufficiently comfortable in his own skin and his own authority to progress to Major.
