Despite having one of the lowest vaccination rates in SE Asia the cases seem to have peaked and on their way down. Mask usage on the street is probably 50% here by my observations women more than men.

Data from a new website launched by the Task Force on Friday, showed that Bangladesh’s weekly average vaccination rate was 0.11 per 100 people.

"Bangladesh’s average vaccination rate was among the lowest in South Asia. Pakistan’s vaccination rate was 0.19 per 100 people, India’s was 0.31, Nepal’s 0.33, and Sri Lanka’s 1.63. Only Afghanistan, at 0.05 per 100, Bhutan, at 0.04, and the Maldives, at 0.08, had lower vaccination rates in the region. However, both Bhutan and the Maldives have vaccinated large portions of their population already. "

The test positivity rate dropped to 17.64%, lowest in two months

The single-day Covid-19 death toll in Bangladesh dropped to its lowest in nearly seven weeks as the health authorities reported 159 fresh fatalities in the 24 hours to 8am on Thursday.

The latest single-day death toll is the lowest since July 4, when the country registered 153 deaths. On July 5, the daily Covid-19 death toll was 164.

The caseload jumped by 6,566 during the same time, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With the latest development, the total number of deaths stands at 24,878, while the number of total infections has risen to 1,447,210 in the country.

The single-day test positivity rate dropped further to 17.64%, with as many as 37,226 samples tested between 8am Wednesday and 8am Thursday.

This is the lowest daily test positivity rate in two months. On June 20, the test positivity rate was 16.38%.

Another 10,153 patients have recovered from Covid in the country, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,337,181.

The seven-day moving average of daily deaths in Bangladesh also dropped to 180.7 on Thursday.

For a seven-day moving average, one has to take the data of the last one week, add them up, and divide it by seven. The most common application of moving average is to identify trend direction.

Dhaka logged the highest deaths with 50 fatalities, followed by Chittagong with 38. Sylhet division counted 23 deaths while Rajshahi 13, Khulna 12, Barisal 10, Rangpur eight, and Mymensingh five.

The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.72%.

Dhaka also logged the highest number of cases among the divisions with 3,413 new infections, followed by Chittagong with 1,101.

To date, more than 8.55 million tests have been conducted around the country, leading to an overall test positivity rate of 16.91%.

The health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a strain of coronavirus named Sars-CoV-2, on March 8, 2020.

The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 4.4 million lives and infected over 210 million people across the world till Thursday afternoon, according to Worldometer.

As many as 188.4 million people have recovered from Covid-19, which has spread to 220 countries and territories across the planet.

Bangladesh is pushing for mass vaccinations in the coming months, so it will be interesting to follow as their rate of vaccinated increases and what it does to the hospital cases.

At the Peak they were experiencing less than 265 people a day in a country of almost 165 million.

Currently, Ivermectin has already been adopted by 25 percent of the world’s countries to prevent and treat COVID-19. Bangladesh, where Ivermectin is broadly used in almost every home, enjoys a 99% lower per capita death rate from COVID-19 than the US. Bangladesh, with 160 million inhabitants, has half the US population. However, it has merely 10,000 COVID-19 deaths. Contrast that with nearly 580,000 US deaths in our country of 327 million.

CDC says only 6% of that 600,000 died FROM covid.
Even so, we're half again higher than Bangladesh.

Long-Term Studies Of COVID-19 Vaccines Hurt By Placebo Recipients Getting Immunized

Tens of thousands of people who volunteered to be in studies of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are still participating in follow-up research. But some key questions won't be easily answered, because many people who had been in the placebo group have now opted to take the vaccine.

Even so, there's valuable information to be had in the planned two-year follow-up studies. And that motivated Karen Mott, a 56-year-old job counselor who stuck with the continuing study.

"I've been taking prescription medicine for the last 25 years," she says, referring to antiseizure drugs she takes. In order to show those drugs worked, people previously volunteered to take them when they were still experimental, "so I felt it was my way of giving back."

Mott, who lives in the Overland Park, Kan., got a strong reaction to the second shot, so she correctly surmised she had received the Moderna vaccine, not the placebo. She was sad to read that one of the volunteers in the placebo group did die of COVID-19.

Why Tens Of Thousands Of People Are Key To Testing A COVID-19 Vaccine
Shots - Health News
Why Tens Of Thousands Of People Are Key To Testing A COVID-19 Vaccine

"I keep thinking about that. Why am I one of the lucky ones?" she says. "And I think that makes me feel like, I need to keep providing the information that we need."

So, when the clinic called her in January and offered to reveal her actual vaccine status it was an easy call for her. She agreed to keep participating in the two-year follow-up study.

Participants provide periodic nose swabs and saliva samples, to see if they've been infected. They also give blood so scientists can better understand how the vaccine is providing protection.

Mott was one of about 650 volunteers who took the experimental Moderna vaccine at a company called Johnson County Clinical Trials in Lenexa, Kan. Dr. Carlos Fierro, who runs the study there, says every participant was called back after the Food and Drug Administration authorized the vaccine.

"During that visit we discussed the options, which included staying in the study without the vaccine," he says, "and amazingly there were people — a couple of people — who chose that."

He suspects those individuals got spooked by rumors about the vaccine. But everybody else who had the placebo shot went ahead and got the actual vaccine. So now Fierro has essentially no comparison group left for the ongoing study.

"It's a loss from a scientific standpoint, but given the circumstances I think it's the right thing to do," he says.

People signing up for these studies were not promised special treatment, but once the FDA authorized the vaccines, their developers decided to offer the shots.

Dr. Steven Goodman, a clinical trials specialist at Stanford University, says losing those control groups makes it more difficult to answer some important questions about COVID-19 vaccines.

"We don't know how long protections lasts," he says. "We don't know efficacy against variants — for which we definitely need a good control arm — and we also don't know if there are any differences in any of these parameters by age or race or infirmity."

Scientists may be able to infer some of this, for example if it becomes evident that vaccinated people commonly fall ill after exposure to virus variants. Further safety information is also being collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as the FDA, based on the experience of millions of people who have now taken the shots.

Medical Treatments
Should Coronavirus Vaccine Trials Be Unblinded?

But clinical trials that include a placebo group are the surest and most definitive ways to gather information about vaccine effectiveness. "I think over time we'll get that data," Fierro says, even without a placebo group.

Scientists have already collected data from the vaccine studies that could help them identify how individuals' immune systems have responded to vaccination. That could eventually let them identify immune system features, called correlates of protection, that could strongly indicate vaccine effectiveness.

But because the best evidence comes from a controlled study, Goodman is thinking about how those could be conducted ethically, now that there are effective vaccines available.

One option is to identify people who are in groups that are not currently eligible for a vaccine, as is happening now with children. Another option is to conduct studies in other parts of the world, where vaccines simply aren't available. But that raises ethical issues, as well: Why not provide those countries vaccine, rather than recruiting them for a study?

"But the fact is we do have an unfair world and there are inequities in global health and financing," Goodman says. So, offering people a chance to participate in a study could be ethical. "The countries themselves may demand it," he says, as they work to understand the risks that virus variants pose to their populations.

Another option is to run a study in which all participants get vaccinated, but not right away. After two months, for example, people would get a second treatment – either the real vaccine if they originally got the placebo, or vice versa. One key here, Goodman says, is that nobody should know which was which. That way people wouldn't change their behavior, which itself could influence the outcome of a trial because people who know they are vaccinated might take greater risks.

The appearance of virus variants "may really scramble things up because there may be certain variants where the efficacy of all vaccines might be so low that we're basically back to zero," Goodman says. "We might have to go back to placebo-controlled trials. It's hard to know."

That's the worse-case scenario. The vaccines currently in use in the United States seem to work well against the variant first seen in the United Kingdom and appear to offer at least partial protection from the variant identified first in South Africa, but more evasive new variants could emerge in the months and years to come.

Fierro sees another possibility. Perhaps in a year or two the existing vaccines will have proven so effective that COVID-19 becomes not much more than a nuisance. Under those circumstances, the risk of participating in a study that has a placebo option would be low enough to be acceptable, say, for young people who have not yet been vaccinated.

Mega Vaxxed Israel Surpasses Mini Vaxxed Bangladesh in daily cases with 1/16 the population of Bangladesh.

Israel logged 645 COVID patients in serious condition, with 155 in critical condition according to health ministry data released on Saturday night.

7,761 new COVID cases were recorded on Friday, according to the data.

Over the weekend, tens of thousands of Israelis aged 40 to 49 received their third coronavirus vaccine, with the total number of Israelis who have received their third shot reaching 1.3 million.

On Sunday, new gathering restrictions will go into effect, according to which a maximum of 400 people will be allowed to gather indoors, and 500 outdoors.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said on Saturday that the coronavirus cabinet will announce plans for the upcoming school year on Sunday.

According to the plan, middle and high school students will be vaccinated and start the school year on September 1 as usual.

Elementary school and kindergarten-aged children will receive home COVID test kits, to be preformed 24 hours prior to the start of the school year. The start date for these institutions will also be announced on Sunday.

Israel's Health Ministry approved administering the third COVID booster shot to Israelis aged 40 and up on Friday, accepting the vaccination committee's recommendation to lower the minimum age for receiving the third vaccine dose from 50, as a renewed COVID outbreak has triggered soaring infection rates.

According to a statement from the ministry, its director general, Nachman Ash, notified the heads of Israel's health maintenance organizations to expand the booster shot campaign to the new age group, as well as to teachers, caretakers for the elderly and pregnant women. The booster shot is administered at least five months after the second dose.

Bennett also said that he issued an order for hundreds more vaccination complexes to be opened and noted that he anticipates that in the future everyone will be eligible to receive the third booster shot.

On Wednesday, new COVID-19 related restrictions came into effect, with all children over the age of three being required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test result before entering indoor spaces, except for malls and stores.

In addition, stores and malls will be required to limit capacity to one person per seven meters squared. Additionally, a limit will be set on crowd sizes at large events.

This is Israeli data and you can see when you add the Partially Vaxxed and Fully Vaxxed you can see the ratio of current patients is about even to the unvaxxed patients, except when you get to the older populations 70+.

If you change the graph to Absolute number instead of rate per 100,000 now you see the disparity in Vaccinated People are dominating the Active Patients! (Box still says At A rate per 100K)

Bangladesh is continuing to see its deaths plummet as well as active cases.

Aug 28, 2021
They are still planning a max vaxx campaign however. I believe they are having trouble getting injections from other countries and lack the technical capability to create their own which is contributing to the low vaccination rate.

Too Bad, becuase they are the largest, least vaccinated country left.

It would appear that this uptrend is over.

1630210297763.png

One other disturbing trend is that when they held the latest vaccination drive, in the photos its almost ALL MEN standing in line, which is not surprising being it a Muslim country. They have since stopped that process and doing it by appointment only.

Israel's daily cases continue to increase and are MORE THAN Bangladesh's with 1/16 the Population, and they are among the most vaccinated.

Randomized Controlled Trial

Int J Infect Dis

. 2021 Feb;103:214-216.
doi: 10.1016/j.ijid.2020.11.191. Epub 2020 Dec 2.
A five-day course of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19 may reduce the duration of illness

Abstract
Ivermectin, a US Food and Drug Administration-approved anti-parasitic agent, was found to inhibit severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) replication in vitro. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted to determine the rapidity of viral clearance and safety of ivermectin among adult SARS-CoV-2 patients. The trial included 72 hospitalized patients in Dhaka, Bangladesh, who were assigned to one of three groups: oral ivermectin alone (12 mg once daily for 5 days), oral ivermectin in combination with doxycycline (12 mg ivermectin single dose and 200 mg doxycycline on day 1, followed by 100 mg every 12 h for the next 4 days), and a placebo control group. Clinical symptoms of fever, cough, and sore throat were comparable among the three groups. Virological clearance was earlier in the 5-day ivermectin treatment arm when compared to the placebo group (9.7 days vs 12.7 days; p = 0.02), but this was not the case for the ivermectin + doxycycline arm (11.5 days; p = 0.27). There were no severe adverse drug events recorded in the study. A 5-day course of ivermectin was found to be safe and effective in treating adult patients with mild COVID-19. Larger trials will be needed to confirm these preliminary findings.

At the Peak they were experiencing less than 265 people a day in a country of almost 165 million.
In a country half our size. Were we them behavior-wise, 530 per day. At the peak.

The current cases are now equal to the cases total from April of 2020, I believe this indicates that the virus has run its course. I am concerned that they are starting Vaccination Campaigns which will undoubtedly case this to change.
