If you are facing a same day surgery, schedule it and get up it done. In our area they are already postponing some. A neighbor is crossing his fingers to get his hernia repair completed before full lock down.

We are and have had the healthiest year in our lives.
Unvaccinated, still distancing, still sanitizing. As old folks it is an easy choice.
I was verbally accosted at Costco for mask wearing.
I told the senior citizen I just got back from Texas and my brother knew the monkey pox patient.
The senior citizen scurried away.
I like the masks in that I can mutter and and frown and no one is the wiser.
Plus I don’t have to pluck my old lady chin hairs.
And yes, we wear out masks correctly.

A few days ago, I found the shoes I prefer and wear daily (slip-ons) on the Wally website. Ordered two pairs, and they were delivered two days later. I'm set!

It depends on the situation and this is how it should be for everyone, you should have the freedom to decide if the situation merits wearing a mask or not. Long before this covid crap I wore one because of my asthma,but only in certain situations. Now I cannot find a replacement asthma mask, my previous masks were Vogg masks, with a rebreather filter, because this is what protects asthmatics in certain situations.nope The Who and cdc ****tards deemed those as dangerous. **** them and the camel they rode in on! I want my rebreather masks back.

I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone thinks it is their business to complain that you ARE wearing a mask. On the other hand I'm not sure what right random individual thinks they can tell you to wear a mask.
BTW my grandson works at a Walmart in the Des Moines area and when he arrived at work was told everyone must wear a mask again.
I'll be wearing a mask outside as long as the air quality remains dangerous. I'm inside with the house closed up and I'm smelling smoke now that its cooled off and the a/c isn't running. Guess its time to use the inhaler again before this becomes a problem.

For those that do not know, this is a military P-38 can opener. There is one that is slightly larger that is a P-51.
They are very cheap, and can be stashed in almost any size kit.

I ordered N-95 masks for everyone in my extended family. First time I have ever felt moved to do so. I also ordered the silly paper masks that don't work but do get me past Karen at the store. Again, enough for all my family and extra to hand out to elderly people in need.

That would turn the country into a smelter.
The question at that point will be which side will write history and which side will be the dross.
Hard for me to imagine this being implemented but the last 1.5 years has me discounting ZERO possibilities.

If you don't have an outside clothes line now is the time to set the clothes line post and get the clothes line and clothes pins. While you are at it get the clothes line that is plastic covered wire . Turn buckles at each end of the clothes line will let you adjust the line when it starts to sag.
I did the same. There is one pair of shoes in the whole world I can wear. Stretchy athletic shoes from Orthofeet.
Ordered 2 pairs as they were on sale. Also stocked up on the socks.
We are back now doing the same thing. Just hope the several months I saw a Dr weekly doesn't do us in. I also have DH wear gloves when he goes to the PO and bank. And anybody accosts us I'll knock them on their ass. Chimps ain't the only ones that can chimp.

I just don’t understand people actually going out of their way to say anything like that to others!

I’m going back to wearing my mask just because of the delta thing going around. And I will say, last year was the first year I didn’t catch anything major which I directly attribute to mask wearing.
That’s just common sense, right there. I had some minor cruddy days where I was sure the COVID was getting me, (and was in very close proximity to several positive cases !) but never did.
I think I tested false negative but who knows. I’m thinking of scheduling a titer test to find out.
I’m not getting that shot though.

PLEASE if your putting a can opener in your car, use a real one, they fed us out of cans usually 6 days a week, these little things are a pain, ( they do work great tho) take a lot of effort and a older person with bad fingers wont be able to use it,
if you dont tave a can opener, rub the crimped end of the can on kind of smooth concrete, like a parking lot stop, back and forth will wear off the crimp. but watch carefully you dont dump the contents on the ground.

This is why you carry a can opener. If you are hungry, you don't want to mess around with the potential of injuring your hand opening a can in alternative ways! These are inexpensive and light.

Everyone should have either a P-38, called a John Wayne when I was in the US Navy,
or a larger P-51 can opener on them at all times. They are very small, and can be
carried very easily in a EDC pouch.
Pic below shows both openers. The smaller one is the P-38.

Well, then, you are disappointed in me.
My wife is immunocompromised, and suffers enough with her cancer.
I do my best to keep myself free of any and all viruses - not just Covid - so I wear both a mask AND a face shield AND disposable nitrile gloves when I go into stores or other places where germs may be harboring.
I do NOT want to carry any germs back to my wife, if I can help it.
I understand where you are coming from, and I do not demand that you mask up to protect me or my wife.
But I do request that folks who choose not to wear masks respect those of us who DO choose to wear them.
You never know from afar if the person you are critisizing might have a legitimate need to mask up that goes beyond blindly following the crowd.

I love how polite the discord on some of these topics are currently goings, but let's try to keep the talk about if or if not people should wear masks, get vaccines, etc. on the many other threads about these topics. Great topics to talk about, but let's please try to keep the focus of this thread on what NEW members can do QUICKLY to prepare for the lockdowns and what may disappear if lockdowns are announced. I know that information is spread around the forum, but that can be a daunting task to find when a NEW member joins the forum. (Note to new members: If you want to read these other topics, the "Search" button in the upper right is pretty good, especially is you use the 'Advanced Options').
If you own your own business that requires parts, etc. may I suggest that you double your normal inventory if at all possible, especially of your most commonly used parts. I can tell you as a property manager that also gets out in the field a lot ... A LOT ... and talks to other property managers and contractors, that most delays are not due to fewer workers (though that doesn't help), but a delay in part availability.
We used to keep one or two "spare" HVAC systems in stock for emergencies. Now we keep ten units in stock when we can get them. One, the price point is better. Two, availability suuuuuucks. We also keep everything in inventory that is needed for HCAV installation and/or repair.
On top of that we keep some window shakers on hand in case for whatever reason a repair can't be accomplished in a 48 hour time frame.
We keep parts and fluids on hand for our personal vehicles and our "fleet" which is basically a couple of vans and several trailers. Tires are taking longer to find in stock so keep those plug and patch kits on hand. A portable compressor for refills isn't a bad idea either.
If you have a water treatment system on your house ... make sure you stock chemicals, salt, whatever you need for it. Same if you have a pool.
Keep duct tape, flex seal, gorilla glue, etc etc on hand for those "patch it" kind of repairs including some roof patch for just in case.
I am only mentioning this because life has a tendency to be damn inconvenient at the most inconvenient of times. So think about what would be inconvenient for you personally and then try and fill that hole before it becomes one.

How about a collection of swiss army knives?
Almost all of the medium and larger models have a can opener and bottle opener.
Many of the full-size multi-tools also have a can opener. It just takes a little practice to use that style.

I’m even seeing a LOT of holes in certain categories at my favorite “vendor haunts! “....shipping is soooo slow. So, I just bit my tongue and placed the order last night. Gulp.
(It really pi#%£ me off that just when I’m seeing more sales we might have people backing off of buying my pieces due to another lock down or economic issues )

My wife has cancer,and although she is marginally ambulatory right now, that is not likely to continue.
She does NOT know this - but I bought a very nice wheel chair off of Craigslist awhile back, and hid it in the storage shed that she no longer goes in. When she does get to the point of needing it, there might not have been one available, hence I got it early.
I also bought her a slew of childrens coloring books, and extra boxes of crayons. She does not like the adult coloring books. She says they are too tedious to color. She wants something simple and relaxing, especially on days when she is not feeling good. She prefers the simple to color children’s books.
You might not have a wife with cancer, but if you have a family member with any kind of special needs, now is the time to address that.
