Occasionally when I am out and about, and haven't eaten, I need to eat something quickly. 6 weeks back that something to eat was 2/$6 Mcdonalds fish sandwich. It is next to nothing...bun, tartar sauce, dried piece of fake cheese, and a 3 1/2 by 3 1/2 by 1/2" piece of fish. It works. 2 weeks ago my granddaughter ordered the same thing...2/$8.something...normal price. Today I did it again...2/$11.98! I won't be doing it any more...EVER! As I went to pay I asked the college looking gal if she knew anything about inflation??? HUH, she said...the said she knew a very little. I suggested she do some studying up on it. She laughed and said I was probably right. I waited a few minutes for the bag and as the young high school kid handed it to me I asked him if he knew anything about inflation? Huh he said, and I repeated the word Inflation. He just stared at me as he walked away.

Voters are rightly blaming Biden for inflation
by Washington Examiner, | | August 01, 2021 12:00 AM

An economy growing at 6.4% would be great news for most White Houses. But with inflation surging to 5.4%, many are not feeling the economic good times, and they know exactly whom to blame.

“Everything just costs more, and no one’s really making more other than if you get government money, which I did get some,” 52-year-old school maintenance worker John Novak told the Associated Press this week. “I’d rather have prices lower.”

Novak is not alone. According to an AP poll conducted last week, 54% of voters say the economy is in poor shape. In a separate Morning Consult poll, 59% of voters said Biden’s policies were to blame for the 13-year high in inflation, and 54% expect inflation to get worse.

The Democrats' reaction to these numbers has been, “Damn the inflation, full spending ahead!”

That is essentially what Hawaii's Sen. Brian Schatz told NBC News when asked how his party should respond to the country’s very real inflation fears. “Even if I thought there were a serious inflation problem, it is hard to argue that 50 years from now, the question will be how did this Congress manage transitory inflation,” Schatz said. “The question that everyone’s going to be looking at 50 years from now is: Did we address the planetary crisis when we could or did we not?”

Opinions about just how “transitory” the current inflation problem is, appear to be rapidly changing. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell told reporters just this week that "bottlenecks, hiring difficulties, and other constraints could continue to limit how quickly supply can adjust, raising the possibility that inflation could turn out to be higher and more persistent than we expected.”

So much for “transitory.”

At the moment, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, the Arizona Democrat, may be the only one standing between her party and the inflationary cliff from which its members seem all too eager to jump. With Biden falsely claiming that his $3.5 trillion spendapalooza will “reduce inflation,” Sinema is pushing back against the bill's price tag. “I do not support a bill that costs $3.5 trillion,” she told the Arizona Republic Wednesday.

Since March 2020, the federal government has pumped more than $5.4 trillion of deficit spending into the U.S. economy. Biden’s $3.5 trillion bill would bring that total to $8.9 trillion. Throw in the $17.7 trillion that the federal government was already scheduled to borrow over the next 10 years, and that comes to almost $27 trillion in new debt in one decade. Keep in mind that our entire economy produces only $22 trillion per year.

It didn’t have to be this way. Thanks to the miraculously successful Operation Warp Speed, the U.S. economy was already recovering swiftly before Biden took office. All he had to do was step aside and convince as many people as possible to get vaccinated.

Instead, Biden took the partisan route, falling under the sway of sycophant “historians” who falsely told him he could be the next Franklin Roosevelt. Now, workers and savers are paying the price at the pump, at the grocery store, and in their rent payments. Hopefully, Sinema will hold fast and help stop the bleeding.

My cousin posted a photo of his fish filet sammie from McD's a few weeks ago and it was pathetically small. The hamburgers we got at McDs yesterday were also pathetically small and they've gone from 89 cents to $1.69 each. So after our tiny burgers we stopped next at Sam's Club and bought a box of their north atlantic beer battered cod filets. I'll make my own stinkin fish filet sammie thank you very much!

And what really sucks, and this is in the same caliber as Dennis whining about not being able to get real german or italian food in the austin texas area, is there really are no places around these parts that sell a good fish dinner. Oh you can get some over cooked salmon just about anywhere, but there's no catfish dinner, etc., to be had, it truly sucks.

One almost has to live in Arkansas to find and enjoy a truly good catfish dinner. Ask me how I know.

Do they even have a dollar menu anymore? If I HAD to stop at a McDee's, that was always my go-to.

That's just one of the problems of Iowa food right now. I eat most of my fish around Lent. That's when it really is "jet fresh" and the area Catholic organizations do a good job at the Friday evening fish fry.

The rest of the time, it's pretty bad, and road trips are necessary. On the other hand, Iowa beef, pork, and chicken is to die for! Lamb, not so much.

I can deal with substandard fish and lamb when the beef, pork, and chicken are so good.

Added: I'm probably not getting my lamb at the right places.

Our MickeyDs still has the 2/Fish Sammies for $8.78 but today the “Deal” is BOGO $4.39. Ours has what they call the $1/$2/$3 Menu. Four food items between $1.29 and $2.09. All coffees for $2. Any size soft drink for $1.

So by 'Inflation' are you including price creep accompanied by portion/package size reduction? THAT always occurs a couple of times a year but of late, Feb/Mar 2021, its almost constant, at least around 38105.

Grocery stores haven't started charging admission for window shopping or looking yet but ......

Question: So why would anyone ever go there again? It's food like and bad for you to boot. Cut it.

Yah know, you don't have to share every thought that pops into your head with the world. I'm not sure who peed in your cheerios but your last couple of posts have been less than pleasant.

I don't believe I've ever been in a restaurant that offered catfish dinners. It's a different culture out west.

You're missing out on some good eatin right there! And if you're in a really good place you may even get to have potato salad and/or coleslaw with your catfish, not just french fries.

Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana all have numerous restaurants that serve excellent catfish dinners.

I've been to several restaurants thru the years around Central Texas that specialize in "all you can eat" catfish dinners.

Unless you go to the muslim cafe in Des Moines, then no, no one in Iowa knows how to cook lamb properly. IIRC the place in Des Moines is The African Place or something like that, it's on Douglas Avenue not far from Beaver Avenue.

The one nearest me no longer has a dollar menu, not sure about the one on the west side of town. If mine does have a dollar menu then it's not on the drive up menu board.

Man I would be in heaven, just give me the catfish pleased, and not just fried, if a person knows how to grill it properly it is divine.

Good reason to a few snecks along have started throwing a few crackers,
nuts , trail mix in my bag or whatever you like.

Yeah, this is what I'm going to have to do, put a jar of peanut butter and some crackers in my go box in the back seat. I haven't completely set up my new car yet, have yet to decide what all I really need to take with me when I'm running errands. I stopped at McD's because I was away from home and was a little hungry, I just needed a small burger to tell my stomach to shut up. To say that we were both disappointed would be an understatement, the size reduction is a recent thing as I don't remember them being this small a couple of months ago.

ETA none of the fast food places here are serving side salads, this has been a thing for the past year. If you want a large meal sized salad they do sell those.
